I just heard on Good Morning America that Pawxatoney Phil, or whatever his name is saw his shadow this morning, which gives us 6 more weeks of Winter. Cool for the snow side (no pun intended) but sucks for us wake heads that are ready for an early season. I rode as late as I could, but after three bouts with colds and flu, and bronchitus once....I'm waiting on warmer water. As the great Ted Nugent would say, "let's kill and grill" the hog!!!

DC

Winter? Sunny and high of 80 today in Houston. Our water temp is above 60

txadam 02-02-2006 7:46 AM

Yep, weather.com says San Antonio's high will be 82 today I've been out riding the past few weeks in a spring suit. Some guys are still trunkin it though.

Ohio Sucks!!!

greenthumb 02-02-2006 8:48 AM

Damn you Curtis.

sylv2080 02-02-2006 9:27 AM

Hey now don't bust on the good ole resident PA mascot!!!! hahahahha This has been a SUPER mild winter here I know if my lake wasn't dropped down and I had a heated garage I would have been out a few times in the past few weeks. I'm just itchin to try out my new drysuit!

noti_dad 02-02-2006 9:49 AM

Ohio sucks? Try Seattle. We just had the third wetest month EVER. I think it was close to 13in. Just for January. We also saw 29 days of measurable rain mixed between Dec and Jan. Hoping the new boat gets here before the spring thaw so I have something to safe myself in. But you're right it EXCELLENT for us snow heads.

foxrepdc 02-02-2006 10:14 AM

At least you guys are in the Superbowl....not like my Panthers who will be watching at home with me!

greenthumb 02-02-2006 11:12 AM

Well if it makes anyone feel better our two groundhogs here in Eastern Canada did not see their shadows and are calling for an early spring. That coupled with the warmest winter ever leads me to think he will be correct in calling for an early spring. And if majority rules, 2-1 groundhogs call for the early spring.

I was gonna say "farmers almanac is more accurate than some critter that pops out of the ground"...but after looking at the Almanac again, the predictions for the NorthEast are WAY WRONG! Almost nothing matched up for what has happened this season...

regardless...none of these will change when the Spring Solstice arrives which is my real personal indicator that the wakeboard season is about to begin!

brucemac 02-02-2006 11:57 AM

when is spring solstice? i forget, is that the same day as daylight savings?

byrd 02-02-2006 12:12 PM

What Winter??? Sunny and dry, for now, here in central Florida...Air 78, H2O 68

nj_alex 02-02-2006 12:37 PM

The Spring Solstice, also known as the vernal equinox, is the first day of Spring. Ground Hog day, originally
known as Candlemas, is the half-way point between the Winter Solstice (the first day of Winter) and the
vernal equinox. Got that?

jhertz27 02-02-2006 1:08 PM

Daniel....please keep in mind that your groundhogs are CANADIAN.

ttuclint 02-02-2006 2:01 PM

Phil? Phil Connors? Phil Connors, I thought that was you!

greenthumb 02-02-2006 2:08 PM

Jake, the only difference with the American groundhogs and their Canadian counterparts is that ours drink better beer ;)

brucemac 02-02-2006 3:02 PM

ugh, we're only halfway to spring

that sucks

nj_alex 02-02-2006 5:23 PM

Here you go. Here's Phil's official site. http://www.groundhog.org/

foxrepdc 02-03-2006 5:57 AM

Well the hog must be on track....weatherman says cold CANADIAN air is headed to the SE for the next 6 to 10 days, and we're supposed to get snow flurries in and around Charlotte on Monday! Thanks! On the bright side, the High Country up near Boone, NC is supposed to get some pretty heavy snow, and I just picked up a new Burton 156 Wide. I guess I'll head out to the boat show this weekend and drool, then hit the slopes next weekend......Still dreaming of warm water days! Now I know how a crackhead with no money feels!

greenpinky 02-03-2006 6:15 AM

Mann, it must be the dead of winter when American and Canadian wakeboarders are going back and forth about a stupid hog sticking his head out of the ground.

Man, I'm itching to ride...

wakescene 02-03-2006 9:57 AM

It's my shadow I see. Six more weeks of mild winter there will be. That's the prediction from Phil! (thank you Alex for the link)

Daniel, better beer? Phil has Rolling Rock"33", Yuengling and my favorite...Keystone

jhertz27 02-03-2006 12:12 PM

Did anyone notice one the groundhog website, that when they did the shadow ceremony, it wasn't even dawn yet? Look at the pics there is NO sun. Now tell me, how the heck did that bastard Phil see it's shadow?

foxrepdc 02-03-2006 1:22 PM

Right On!!!! We should launch a protest and cry foul on the hog!!
