dakid 01-26-2006 1:25 AM

looks like he landed on his board. we still don't know if he rode it off or not. according to ten-80 site, the money's still up for grabs, so maybe he didn't ride it off. <BR> <BR>but damn, that looks really close!

kingskrew 01-26-2006 1:27 AM

If he landed it and rode away, I would say yes. Because the video ends just when he hits the water, it leads me to believe that he didn't ride it out. AWESOME attempt tho! <BR> <BR>-Steve <BR> <BR>(Message edited by KingsKrew on January 26, 2006)

harryhog 01-26-2006 2:07 AM

I'm thinking 1080/dave williams are just building the tension, getting a bit of voting done before you unleash the truth. <BR> <BR>Cause of that I recon he did it............ <BR>Also, i always thought the first 1080 would be hs not ts, if he does land it, looks like its a really clean attempt!

wakeworld 01-26-2006 2:09 AM

We'll have the full video up on Monday... <IMG SRC="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" ALT=":-)" BORDER=0>

harryhog 01-26-2006 5:16 AM

haha, theres the answer!!! <BR>course he did it, <BR>sweet, can't wait to see that!

lyle 01-26-2006 5:26 AM

Im thinking he is all over it.. That pretty freakin awesome..

lyle 01-26-2006 5:34 AM

dang you jokers are up early and late

obsurfer 01-26-2006 6:02 AM

Oh so close.

wakeguru 01-26-2006 6:14 AM

Dang, I'm thinking Harry sniffed it out...I'll say yes he did! That's killer if it's true! <BR> <BR>LOL at Lyle.

greenpinky 01-26-2006 6:17 AM

Out on Monday Dave? Then of course he did it. Looks clean to me. Congrats Matt!

richd 01-26-2006 7:06 AM

Wasn't that off a DU? I thought the contest rules said no DUs. Cool looking trick though.

greenthumb 01-26-2006 7:14 AM

I say the board slipped out from under him and he bailed at the very end. Great attempt and closest I have seen so far, very clean. If he didnt hit it that time, he looks to be very close to landing it soon.

bflat53212 01-26-2006 7:43 AM

I would say regardless of whether or not he rode away, he doesn't get the dough. The rules state: <BR> <BR>"Entrant is required to make at least four handle passes (two in front, two in back) " <BR> <BR>I may be wrong, but I only count 3, it looks to me like he is landing that wrapped. Just my opinion.

bflat53212 01-26-2006 7:46 AM

Before I get blasted, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve the money, I'm just saying I could see them using that rule against him. Either way, if he rode away, he deserves the cash.

olddude 01-26-2006 7:57 AM

I don't know guys, the handle was not in the small of his back when the video ended but there was still some slack in the line which sould allow him a chance to get the line into the proper position to ride away, if we had 1 more second of the video, I could probably make the correct call.

xxxstar 01-26-2006 7:57 AM

I'm sure he landed it. I've watched that kid ride while they were filming Downside Up and he can spin. The 009 is sick.

bflat53212 01-26-2006 8:00 AM

FJ this is the guy who did the 009? That was sick! You can actually seem him almost go ole right at the end of the 1080, but then tucks it behind his back.

stephan 01-26-2006 8:23 AM

heck even Parks' 1080 didn't have two handle passes. He rode away wrapped and then passed it as he rode away. Granted it was switch TS... Because of the hype my guess is he landed it, which is cool. That guy has some serious potential on the Tour if he is consistent. Lets hope so, I would love to see someone challenge Phil.

tings00 01-26-2006 8:27 AM

can we get a windows media player version of the video. i am at work and dont have quicktime on my computer and cant download it. Let me know i am dyin to see this. and the 009 if thats possible

dirwoody 01-26-2006 9:21 AM

Best attempt i've seen since Phil's at DU or nothing, didn't he just fall over after landing it? Personally, I think this kid is insane, pulling OO9's is nuts, and for him the 1080 is just the next step. Can't wait to see him stick it when Dave posts on Monday.

antbug 01-26-2006 9:32 AM

Matt is the man. The OO9 is the sickest trick out today and now it looks like he is the 1080 man! <BR> <BR>Way to go Matt!

harryhog 01-26-2006 9:52 AM

if he's stuck it this early in the season, we're gonna see some amazing competition sets this year! i wouldn't be suprised if we see parks, harf and soven on his tale, at least with some other amazing DU trix

cwbabsolute1080 01-26-2006 10:09 AM

please start posting video in windows media format!!!! lol... i wanna see it bad but I cant download it and I have windows.. Im sure matt got really close.... in his section in Evolution wake he spins like crazy and very clean!

big_ed_x2 01-26-2006 10:45 AM

zride 01-26-2006 11:26 AM

A 1080 is a 1080 regardless if you pass the handle three times or just twice then land wrapped. Parks Bonifay was the first to land a 1080, the first to land a double half-cab roll, and in my opinion should be the person recognized as landing the first 1080. I could be mistaken but I thought he landed this in a comp as well. anyway its all good and I know if Parks was put to e challenge there would be know doubt that he could do a 1080. He da man! <BR> <BR>Zride <BR> <BR>(Message edited by zride on January 26, 2006) <BR> <BR>(Message edited by zride on January 26, 2006)

cable_rocker 01-26-2006 11:37 AM

yes i think he didt it and he deserve the money! <BR> <BR>but anybody know the song in the upsidedownvideo.com where he throw this sweet 009? <BR> <BR>this is a sick trick and great song! <BR> <BR>(Message edited by Cable Rocker on January 26, 2006)

guido 01-26-2006 11:40 AM

I agree. If he stuck it he's the man. I also agree: the 009 is sick.

olddude 01-26-2006 12:08 PM

I've been hearing of the 009, where is the video?

stephan 01-26-2006 12:25 PM

If legend is correct Mark Kenney was the first to land it. Parks was the first to get it on film.

olddude 01-26-2006 1:04 PM

Where's the video of the 009?

antbug 01-26-2006 1:11 PM

Craig ~ here you go. <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.downsideupvideo.com/index.lasso?fuseaction=downsideup.bonus" target="_blank">http://www.downsideupvideo.com/index.lasso?fuseaction=downsideup.bonus</a>

lyle 01-26-2006 1:17 PM

good call big heavy

malibuboarder75 01-26-2006 1:17 PM

Wow, if he landed that, that is amazing. it looked like it was normal for him. I am sure now that it has been done, everyone will be trying to follow.

brandon_lee 01-26-2006 1:28 PM

quote: STEPHAN- "heck even Parks' 1080 didn't have two handle passes. He rode away wrapped and then passed it as he rode away. Granted it was switch TS... Because of the hype my guess is he landed it, which is cool." <BR> <BR>You get the dumbass of the day award. The fact that Parks did his 10 switch does not mean it was harder for him. It would actually be easier for him because he spins frontside switch much easier, and backside regular. have you ever seen him do a regular toeside frontside 7 or 9? No. not to say that he hasn't done them, but that left foot forward is his dominant frontside spinning stance. <BR> <BR>Oh, and if Parks' 10 didnt have two handle passes he would not have even landed a 7. A 1080 is three handlepasses <BR> <BR>(Message edited by brandon_lee on January 26, 2006)

srh00z 01-26-2006 1:35 PM

The 009 is sweet, I'm glad he is representing 'Bama

andy_nintzel 01-26-2006 1:56 PM

he does that first 5 so fast its nuts, before he even peaks out he has the first 5 done. Crazy. I cannot even imagine spinning that fast, on my ts 7 off the dub, I only do a 180 by the peak, I do the rest of it on the way down. Crazy. Just Crazy. mad props, even if he crashes. I am gunna call Paul Stokes at Ten-80 and see whats up, I'll post what he tells me.

rob_kc 01-26-2006 1:57 PM

It looks like its over with, 1080 on vid for the first time in allmost 8 yrs. Guess it needs to be stepped up to a 1260 now!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/biggrin.gif" border=0>

wakestar8878 01-26-2006 2:02 PM

Ed - Parks did his quite a few years ago, way before this contest ever existed.

lyle 01-26-2006 2:09 PM

Fellas, I may be wrong, which is very likely, but I think that parks got his on video, but not the whole thing.. I think it cutt off about the same time or a little before the clip that they are showing now. Hence the "whole trick on video" rule <BR> <BR>(Message edited by lyle on January 26, 2006)

guddy 01-26-2006 2:28 PM

By looking at the last frame, it looks like he may have actually landed it. He's landing on his board, but not leaning forward as it should be for a successful wrapped landing, but there's still some slack on the rope... Who knows? (David...) <BR> <BR>Here's an explanation of the whole thing: Yes, Parks landed it. Kenney did it too. But after Parks' pictures of a 1080, nobody landed it anymore. It was only a few years ago that people started trying it again, which is a bummer for the progression of the sport. Snowboarders are landing 1260s, skateboarders are trying the 1080, inline skaters are landing 1440s. I'm not saying it is easy to spin on a wakeboard, but it's been, what, six years since someone landed a 1080. IT IS POSSIBLE TO DO IT. So why not do it? That's why Ten80 and Wakeworld are promoting this contest. <BR> <BR>And... The thing about switch spinning, many riders do it. Shapiro spins better switch, Soven's 1080 attempt was switch. It's just a mental thing. Spinning doesn't depend on what foot you have forward, it depends on whether you're more comfortable spinning clockwise or counterclockwise (For BMX Riders and Inline Skaters, spinning switch is spinning opposed to the side that you're more comfortable with, while riding backwards is called fakie). <BR> <BR>Sorry for the long post, people... I just felt lonely and wanted to say a lot of stuff. <BR> <BR>Guddy <BR>Brazil

brandon_lee 01-26-2006 2:32 PM

Big Ed <BR>It was under my assumption when Stephan said "Granted it was switch TS... " he meant that it was harder. maybe I misread that

timmy 01-26-2006 2:51 PM

my vote for .wmv as well. I don't have an apple. I can't download quicktime on this work laptop.

woundedknee 01-26-2006 3:06 PM

I'll 3rd the .wmv vote <BR> <BR>trace

wakestar8878 01-26-2006 3:08 PM

You don't need an apple to download quicktime. It's free just go to <a href="http://www.apple.com" target="_blank">www.apple.com</a>

mikel 01-26-2006 3:45 PM

Brandon, <BR> <BR>There are much nicer ways to disagree with someone. Besides, if you end up being wrong, apologizing is easier when you are nice in the first place. <BR> <BR>Mike

timmy 01-26-2006 4:34 PM

shawn i know you don't need an apple, however you do need admin privelages on this computer i have with me since it wants to access some files in the registry or something. i have tried. <BR> <BR>I also find quicktime generally more annoying to use (on my computer at home)

iamnathanhudson 01-26-2006 4:38 PM

guido 01-26-2006 4:46 PM

Wow, Brandon you are getting worked up...... <BR> <BR>The Parks 10 was sick and there was a full sequence, but it was B/W film, not video. The rumor is that Kenny had them in his bag of tricks and that he had landed a bunch of them. Ferrero said that he saw Kenney do 2 10's back to back at each end of a comp lake off dub's. <BR> <BR>So if this is it, which I believe it is, then it's the first 10 on vid. Congrats will be in order. Matt is a pimp. <BR> <BR>

brandon_lee 01-26-2006 5:31 PM

Guido, I am not worked up, but a few of these responses have reminded me how conservative wakeworld is. <BR>

rmcronin 01-26-2006 6:45 PM

hope he landed it, hope he wins it, who cares about handle passes, rules suck! <BR>

dococ 01-26-2006 6:45 PM

Brandon, I'm not wishing to fuel your fire, but I would like to point out that you made the choice to come out with guns blazing in an unprovoked attack on Stephan. Stephan is very well known and friends with many on this site, he's been here for years, he consistently demonstrates himself to be intelligent, knowledgeable, thoughtful and polite. The fact that he has chosen not to fire back at you I suspect is purposeful and perhaps a testament to his character. You, on the other hand, have posted only a handful of times, and in a very rude, hateful and unnecessarily hostile aggressive manner. I mean, seriously, go back and read you own post! Who in his right mind would introduce himself to a group in such a manner? What is the problem there? And now you try to change the subject by writing that WakeWorld is conservative? What the hell does conservative have to do with acting like a grown-up and demonstrating acceptable social skills? I invite you to explain yourself if you so choose. <BR> <BR> <BR>BTW, Sims is the man!! I agree that 009 is one of the sickest tricks ever! Wouldn't surprise me if the next 10 fell to him!

proho 01-26-2006 8:18 PM

i dont know if you know this but brandon lee rips ;). i think you should relax. you take the word dumbass out of brandons post and its no big deal. <BR> <BR>im gonna say that matt sims didnt land it. theres no real way to tell from the video whether he landed it or not, i just dont see them holding back on the footage if he really landed. they just want people to start thinking about the contest again. good attempt even if he didnt land it.

big_ed_x2 01-26-2006 8:37 PM

Proho,DUMBASS!! <BR> <BR><blockquote><hr size=0><!-quote-!><font size=1><b>quote:</b></font><p>i dont know if you know this but brandon lee rips<!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote> <BR> <BR>Who cares if Brandon rips or anybody else that acts like a D**K for that matter? <BR> <BR>ohh just take the dumbass out it's no big deal!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/kiss.gif" border=0><img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/proud.gif" border=0>

dococ 01-26-2006 9:01 PM

Proho, That's great, I'm happy for him, but I'm with Ed. The attitude is just not needed, it doesn't do anything good for anybody. People like Andrew Adkison, Shaun Murray, Zane, Cobe, Weddington, Mike Schwenne, Chris Dykmans, Josh Storrer, I could go on and on... guys who rip but also are cool in the way they treat others. There are plenty of great riders who feel no need to act like an a-hole toward somebody that they don't even know. Especially if he is a great rider, then why the need to front like that? Whatever, never mind.

proho 01-26-2006 9:05 PM

are you irritable because its winter or just cuz its that time of the month? first off the thing about brandon ripping was a joke thus the ";)", even tho he does rip. i dont think calling someone a dumbass makes someone rude, hateful, aggresive and hostile. i think when brandon said conservative he meant uptight.

jrad 01-27-2006 2:19 AM

i vote that karsten baumgartl lands the 1080 because IT IS POSSIBLE. Dude, its not that easy

sethenol 01-27-2006 8:44 AM

I vote yes and congrats Matt!

justagirl 01-27-2006 8:55 AM

It looks great, but seeing just this video, I'd say no. If he landed it is should have been easy to add those 5 more seconds... Even is he didn't land this, I don't think it will take him too long before he does. I'm looking forward to the full video monday! <BR> <BR>But it sure looks great, congrats!

guido 01-27-2006 9:13 AM

proho.....go back to being a proho, or take your meds or something.

brandon_lee 01-27-2006 9:20 AM

conservative in a sense that when anyone says something off color or slightly inflammatory, even if it is a universal truth half of this message board reprimands you while the other half questions your morality. <BR> <BR>

big_ed_x2 01-27-2006 9:44 AM

Brandon,you call it conservative,we the WW peeps call it mature and polite.<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>Now don't get me wrong,sometimes it gets a little out of hand but it always takes a few post back and forth before the name calling.LOL<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/lol.gif" border=0> <BR> <BR> <BR>Just be cool bro!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>

dococ 01-27-2006 10:27 AM

Notes to self: <BR> <BR>1) Try to avoid playing sheriff to bratty kids after 10+ hours at the office. <BR> <BR>2) Would be awesome if an underground rider claimed the next 10 before any of the Orlando headliners. <BR> <BR>Carry on, brats! <BR>

dtb 01-27-2006 11:15 AM

they didn't show the rest of the video because they are using it as a promotion for the contest, the site, the brand, etc. now they have everyone waiting in anticipation for the full video monday, and in the interim thinking about ten-80 and the 1080. <BR> <BR>i would guess that sims did land it, we'll see monday....

brhanley 01-27-2006 3:22 PM

Can someone explain why it is sometimes considered "harder" or "more stylie" to land wrapped (aka blind), but sometimes not (e.g., Parks' 1080)? Not that I am saying that one or the other is harder, but let's maintain some consistency here. <BR> <BR>I think we'd all agree that a heel 1080 is harder than a toe 1080, but how about a flatspinned 1080. Where's the love? <BR> <BR>Finally, I can't watch the video either, but have seen the 009. Ridiculous move. I'd be surprised if I thought his 1080 was more impressive.

antbug 01-27-2006 3:49 PM

Well Brain Parks did land his wrapped and the reason it's not as hard on this trick (i'm talking like I can do it hahaha) is one less handle pass. If he were to pass it it would be a total of 3 handle passes not two.

clubjoe 01-27-2006 3:52 PM

I landed a 180 yesterday.........<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/sad.gif" border=0>

antbug 01-27-2006 3:54 PM

Joe ~ HS 180?

kingskrew 01-27-2006 4:00 PM

Joe, did you get it on film? Thats worth $180, right? <BR> <BR>-Steve <BR> <BR> <BR>what do you mean that isn't how it works??

clubjoe 01-27-2006 4:17 PM

Bug--It was only my TS......Although.....I have my courage now(aka:helmet), so I'm re-throwing down the gauntlet on my 3 attempts!!....(dammit) <BR> <BR>Steve--no film.........man.....i NEVER get a break!!<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/sad.gif" border=0>

stephan 01-27-2006 4:35 PM

Wow somehow my comment got jumped on, that is great. Brandon, I mentioned that it was switch toeside I guess you thought I implied that made it tougher. It would for the average joe, but not Parks. I know he spins that way easier, all you gotta do is watch Shafted from back in the day and he's poppin of Switch Toe 9's like crazy in there. <BR> <BR>You say this site is conservative and get up in arms over "universal truth". So I guess everyone knows I'm a dumbass for saying switch TS is generally harder. Apparently its better for you to talk $#!T about someone you know nothing about than for me to comment on wakeboarding. That makes a lot of sense. If I'm wrong I'll be the first to admit it (see below), but damn son, you don't gotta come out and be an A-hole. I don't think my comment warranted the level of response you levied upon me, just chill it's wakeboarding. <BR> <BR>Anyhow in my original post I meant to say "three passes" with third coming as he rode away.

jrad 01-27-2006 4:54 PM

I vote that Brandon Lee gets kicked off wakeworld

guido 01-27-2006 4:57 PM

but he rips?!? ha, ha, ha...

seth 01-27-2006 5:10 PM

steve if he would have seen you ridin that sweet yellow hog (moped) with your biker chick on the back the other day he would have thought twice about dissin a bad mo fo' like you!! i heard a little rumor of some shreddin this weekend. need a third?

moombarider132 01-27-2006 5:51 PM

uhh guys im pretty sure parks wasnt the first to land the 1080 just the first to land it on film <BR> <BR> <BR>could be wrong though im gonna look for the article if i can find the right magazine <BR> <BR> <BR>dont chew me out yet im just not so sure about the previous statements about parks

proho 01-27-2006 6:33 PM

yay lets kick brandon for saying dumbass.

kingskrew 01-27-2006 6:38 PM

<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/65919/280530.jpg" alt="">

brandon_lee 01-27-2006 7:07 PM

Oh please don't throw me in the briar patch!!! <BR>You guys dont get to vote on getting me kicked off. This place is a classic example of an eastern communist society.

stephan 01-27-2006 9:11 PM

Seth, yeah the 'ped is a sick ride. You know you'd motor with that fine honey on the back any day! I swear those people were probably wondering what the hell was going on, me hooting like a maniac and you laughing like a goon...good times. It was much like a western socialist society, very "free market" if you will... <BR> <BR>I love history class. <BR> <BR>Mr. Poop, as it goes Mark Kenney is the first to have ridden away from the 10. Supposedly Kenney(RIP) landed a few. No one ever caught it on film though. Parks has landed one, luckily Bill Doster was there and got it from a really good/close angle.
