Ok i have a 1984 ski nautique 2001 with a pylon pole. its a little rough around the edges but we all know how nice of a wake a 1984 Nautique puts out. i found a super clean 1982 mastercraft for 6,000 should i sell my ski nautique and get the mastercraft and add a balast system or keep what i got. also what kind of a wake dose of 1982 MC produce

No. Keep the SN2001. Put the money into the 2001.

Now this goes against all I preach. I suggest keep the SN 2001. Personally I am a Mastercraft man all the way. If the SN is running well just put some money into the cosmetics and there you go.

My neigbor has an 82 MC and it is a great boat. However, the wake is nothing like the SN. Stay with what you have becasue you know your boat. Even if the boat is super clean you dont know that boat. If you are happy then keep it but if you are just looking for an excuse to get a different boat which we are always trying to do then sell the SN and get the MC it is a great boat but they just dont throw the same quality wake that the old SN do

It seems like this topic pops up time and time again. Look up past treads about guys wanting older boats that throw a good wake. You will always find the same response - Get a 2001! Bottom line, boats in the 80s through early 90s were made to produce small wakes and are usually very shallow with a some what flat hull. I am obviously very bias, but I would stick with the 2001.

I agree with the past comments. My last boat was an '86 MC PS 190. You won't be happy with the wake after a 2001. $6000 will go a long way into fixing up your 2001. Start with an engine and trans tune-up/maintenance($500?), floor patching/replacement if needed($1000 DIY?), new carpet($500 DIY?), new vinyl ($1000?), monster tower and racks ($1700), PerfectPass ($1100), plumb in your own automatic ballast system($500?). If you have money left over, upgrade your stereo or get some gelcoat repair done and SAN stickers. My prices may be way off, but you get the idea. If you can't upgrade to a SuperSport or SAN, spend the money on your 2001 and be happy knowing you have a great wake.
