I wanted to let everyone know of a new speaker coming out soon. I have only some preliminary information on them, so don’t take this information as if it was from Skylon. I am sure they will be providing detailed information in the near future. (These are the ones I have ordered for my new 05 VLX that is just going into production.) <BR> <BR>Skylon has been making the Defcon series speakers for a while now, and they have been very popular. Up to this point, they have been using the Kicker speakers in the Defcon 2,3, and 4’s, as far as I know. Skylon is in the process of bringing out a Defcon “Reference” series of speakers. I was told of the Defcon 3,4, and I believe 5, will be available in the reference series. <BR> <BR>The Reference series will be replacing the Kicker speakers with speakers from Image Dynamics. In my opinion, these are a much higher-end speaker, and should be a very nice upgrade from the Kicker speakers. I think the regular series will still be available with the kickers. In the Defcon 4, and I believe the Defcon 5, the 6 ½ speaker is going to be replaced with a HLCD (horn-loaded compression driver) speaker. For those of you familiar with these, you know they crank. <BR> <BR>The speaker housings (at least on the Defcon 4, which is what I am getting) have been pretty heavy in the past. They have been re-designed, and are still very high quality, but much lighter. I addition to the standard black (and I think, polished) they will be available with a carbon fiber wrap-type exterior. I have not seen them yet, but I am sure they are going to be very nice. <BR> <BR>The picture I have attached is of one of the early production models. I do not know if this is what the final product will look like, but I hope so. <BR> <BR>I am very confident that the new Reference series is going to be HOT!
