I have been playing around with boat speed trying to find what the best is and for my boat it seems to be around 22 mph on rough days and around 20 on smooth days. There was some trick info the other day that I read "speed up to 12 to 14 mph" I was wondering how slow they were going if that was speeding up!

dbjts 08-02-2004 1:43 PM

At 12mph I become a submarine

jarrod 08-02-2004 1:43 PM

I like 24. Most guys are riding between 22 and 25 I think.

thane_dogg 08-02-2004 1:45 PM

25 behind a sacked super air
24 behind a sacked vlx

mango 08-02-2004 1:46 PM

I ride mostly 24 as well. Usually the bigger you are the faster you need to go.

walt 08-02-2004 1:46 PM

23 to 24

tkdhav 08-02-2004 1:48 PM

I hear that about the bigger you are I weigh in alittle over 200 lbs. it takes some effort to get my ass in the air

wakestar8878 08-02-2004 2:00 PM

23.7 @ 75 feet

austnjpr 08-02-2004 2:07 PM

I find that speed and rope length seem to go hand in hand. On a shorter rope I can pull at slower speeds (18-20), more rope and I need more speed (22-24). This is why I try and use a shorter rope and less boat speed for learning spinning and surface tricks. Once I have the dialed I will return to my typical rope length and boat speed.

shanday 08-02-2004 2:07 PM

if I only knew
Speedometer is broken
I have to use the TAC - 2900-3100 rmp

jarrod 08-02-2004 2:32 PM

Same hear Shanda. I had no idea how fast I was going until I went on another boat that had PP.

Thane. Faster behind the SAN? Why is that? Are you adding rope too? The SAN wake seems narrower to begin with.

tommyc 08-02-2004 2:43 PM

24.7 - 80 ft.

peter_c 08-02-2004 3:01 PM

You can not trust any speedometer until it has been dialed with a GPS unit. We found PP to be out by 4 MPH. With that said I usually ride at 24 MPH by GPS, which is faster than most, slower than some.

color_pros 08-02-2004 3:14 PM

24.5

thane_dogg 08-02-2004 4:07 PM

J-rod - The SAN I usually ride behind is weighted crazy and needs that much speed to get the wake clean at 80 ft. I could ride 85 I guess. I think I'm a weirdo. I ride 80 feet behind the VLX too.

Both boats have been dialed with GPS.

boardline23 08-02-2004 6:09 PM

20 mph

no gps dial i don't even have a tower, i am ghetto

essy 08-02-2004 8:14 PM

23mph - 65ft...working on 70ft.

malibuboarder75 08-02-2004 8:19 PM

22mph and whatever my rope is (the long section plus a 5ft extension and handle, so maybe 65ft?)

saltydogg00 08-02-2004 9:02 PM

23mph@70 feet

mango 08-02-2004 9:05 PM

i think next time im out on the water im going to see how fast i can go. see if i can do 50 MPH and still hold on!

malibuboarder75 08-02-2004 9:14 PM

someone bet greg necrason to go 45 mph at OWC. He did one lap and won $100.

dadthedriver 08-02-2004 9:15 PM

Tony rides 80 at 24.5 to 25 depending on the weight.

blabel 08-02-2004 9:24 PM

No set speed. I like to go at the speed where the wake just begins to crumble, then have the driver click it up one or two on the PP. Works like a champ with any boat. The more weight you have in the boat, the faster you have to go.

tkdhav 08-02-2004 9:26 PM

45 mph! Now thats "Sick"

tclagggym 08-02-2004 9:59 PM

1st Guy weighs 135lbs,2nd Guy weighs 210, all things the same who gets more air ?

blabel 08-02-2004 10:00 PM

The guy who rides better.

tclagggym 08-02-2004 10:04 PM

All things the same ? Try again.

blabel 08-02-2004 10:05 PM

Depends a little on the speed but not entirely. I know at least two people heavier than me that ride at slower speeds.

saxosham 08-02-2004 10:41 PM

75ft @ 23.5 mph

absolutofft 08-02-2004 11:55 PM

Gareth don't you mean 22.5 mph

grampawakerider 08-03-2004 5:29 PM

22 @ 60ft. Considering going to 23.

fly135 08-03-2004 5:32 PM

I think the boat could barely get up to 45mph on that tiny OWC lake. And if you are talking about the cable it's top speed is 36mph.

malibuboarder75 08-03-2004 5:42 PM

sorry john...thats what people were saying at TSR. Not really sure how true it was, maybe it was only 36.

codsmack 08-03-2004 9:00 PM

We ride a MasterCraft and both speedometers suck ass. Get stopped up all the time. Any clue how to fix that? But we use a GPS when we think it matters. Aslong as I can keep this 231lbs on top of the water Im good.

airwarrior04 08-16-2004 10:47 PM

ballast up air warrior elete v at 65' usually 21-23

hypedrider7 08-17-2004 7:42 AM

Every boat, amount of weight, rope length and your comfort level will vary the speed.

Loaded Supra Launch, 80' rope, around 23-24 mph.

gobiggrom54 08-17-2004 9:07 AM

22 MPH, 60ft, X2

foobysmacker 08-17-2004 1:12 PM

23mph, 70ft, Sanger V210 w/1100 lbs.

kryft 08-17-2004 2:13 PM

20mph, I think... we've got a crappy speedometer... sometimes I slow down if I'm working on something...

adelzee 08-17-2004 2:33 PM

based on reading everyones posting, seems like you gotta experiment btwn 21-24 mph, to find the sweet spot.
don't know about you, but it's hard to keep the speed steady, especially if you gotta follow a turn!

jdavis4 08-17-2004 2:38 PM

SAN 23.5 at 65'

wakelvr 08-17-2004 6:42 PM

23-24 depending on conditions and weight displacement.
dannyg 08-17-2004 7:42 PM

I ride behind a SAN 75ft at 23-24 mph, ballast full and usually 6 or 7 people in the boat.

txwkbrdr06 08-17-2004 7:52 PM

cdm 08-17-2004 9:03 PM
