I always believed there needed to be a zerk in the steering cable so you can lube the cable and not keep replacing them every time a little water gets in there. Then searching for something else I came upon an attachment that does just that with simple installation. I drilled and tapped my cable to make it live again. From completely frozen to lubed, with some working of the cable back and forth, the steering completely freed up. No need to spend more money on something that just needed a little grease. <BR> <BR>What I am saying is if my boat didn't have a zerk at the steering cable I would install one from day one if possible or retrofit asap. Your call as all cables fail from lack of lube sooner or later. Whoa! I was just about to install a new steering cable myself at $210 for the part or done for me at $400 total. So did you say you rehabilitated your existing cable that was slow or frozen? Install &amp; lube from the stern/bilge end only?

Wow! This is exactly what I need. Do you install this at thhe helm orstern side of the cable? Folks say that a cable change is pretty easy. I know I could do it but it looks like a pain in the a## to do.

In order to install it you have to simply remove the steering cable from the rudder, then remove the nut, and install the new one. I prefer marine grease over the oil they recommend. Make sure to grease your rudder and the steering cable mount when you are back there. <BR> <BR>It appears you can also buy just the nut, so you do not have a buy a complete kit. You can also buy two nuts in a kit for a discount if you wanted to share with your buddy. <BR> <BR>The one that fits your boat is the one that fits your steering cable. If you read the specs the nuts are pretty standardized. Check the size and pitch of yours for ordering.
