I finally got my hands on a copy of Push Process (thanks Matty), and I must say it has lived up to all of my expectations. I mean, I have read numerous posts on here about how good it is... but being a filmmaker myself- I am a huge critic. Especially when videos are hyped up to be more than they actually are.

First off PP achieves the goal of what a wake video is suppossed to do, and that is make you just wanna go out and ride. I have never been more bummed to be couped up in sub-zero weather than I am after watching that video.

No overuse of slow-mo which was a big plus for me. The video transfer was beautiful, which is very hard to accomplish when working with HD native footage converted down to SD. Virtually every shot was gorgeous. The cable cam shots were really cool- thats a great new look. Good looking timelapses. The soundtrack was upbeat and kept your attention. The motion graphics were very well done. You could definitely tell Chase's influence on this video on more than just the motion graphics- this video had a "Pre-Pop / Invisible Cinema" feel to it at certain points. I normally don't dig wakeskating sections because in most videos they tend to all look the same, but both Danny Hampson and George Daniels sections were crazy. And Rathy proved that he can throw down as well.

Andrew's section was your typical mobe fest. Or should I say mobe 5 fest. Throws in a W2W heel 9 at the end for an exclamation point. Wow...

Rathy probably had the breakout section of the year- TS 9/SW TS 9, BS 5/SW BS 5, HS 7/SW HS 7, Pete/SW Pete, Pete 5, SW Heel 9 off the wake... Oh yea and a really good shot of a stalefish late roll to blind. You can tell this kid worked his ass off to throw down the best section he could- and it paid off!!!

Lyman rode like... Lyman. His slim chance is probably the best looking slim I've ever seen- reminds me alot of Byerly's back in the day. His wake 2 wake rail transfers will have you hittin rewind a few times. And the shot w/ him shaking the Military Police's hand just sums him up right there...

Oh yea... Gotta love a good bail section... and this has one of the better one's I've seen.

Well that is my initial review and that's watching it once. I can't wait to watch it again- and for the snow and ice to melt so I can get back out and ride myself!!!

It's videos like this that made me wanna make films myself and it gives those of us just starting out in the industry something to push the envelope which is why we will be watching great wake films for a long time!!!

Thanks for the entertainment, Justin- good work man...

have you seen the transgression one yet?
i saw it at the sundance (x-dance festival) on the "sorta-big screen" and thought it was deffinately one of the best videos ive seen too. I deffinately think it had the most emotion of any wake film i personally have seen to date, even my non-wakeboarding wife thought so too and had alot to say about it which i think says a lot. Push process was playing too, but i was late getting there... i should have just paid the $ and saw the last half or so anyway... ohh well

just wondering your opinion of the two in comparison, especially from a guy who has posted such a quality review/ opinion as you have just done, saying more than just "MAN THAT WAS AWESOME..."

Push Process isn't close to as amazing as transgression, not my opinion, thats my fact

I loved PP and all, but was a little dissapointed at the length considering how long they worked on it.

My transgression comes today so i can't wait to watch it !!!

I own both, and Push Process blows Transgression out of the water, despite being on the short side. Transgression is a great movie, and they introduced me to Manchester Orchestra--so I'd recommend it to anyone--but the level of riding isn't near that of PP, and Transgression tends to get a little artsy and long in the tooth. I've seen Transgression twice (with Lidberg's and Randy's sections the only ones I know I'll watch again); I've already seen Push Process about a dozen time all the way through...it's that good.

Great review Ronnie. One correction though...Rathy's Pete 5 was switch and how could you not mention the HUGE w2w back 7? I agree with you on the slims though...Keith and Chad have declared ownership on how to make that trick look good while going big.

Lyman does what Lyman always does...amaze. But this video belonged to Rathy, no doubt. The best wake athlete (boarding and skating) going. Period. The switch heelside 10 he over-rotated in the credits was insane. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone go bigger on HS spins off a double up than him. Throw in a shuv-it ONTO a rail for good measure.

Good to see Dallas back riding. GREAT to see Hampson back having fun and pushing the sport.

Other highlight's include Rusty's picture-perfect 10, Tino's mute (I think?) mobe 5/HS ole 9, Amber Wing's near misses on HS 7's, Adkison's edge-over-edge indy frontroll, late TS 360 crow mobe, and some of the funniest skate crashes you'll ever see. And the soundtrack: I've been wearing out Holy Diver and Burn My Shadow.

"Sorry 'bout the dam noise." -- Adkison

(Message edited by jcv on January 25, 2008)

I own both Push Process and Transgression and have to agree with Jeff above. Push Process was hyped up and did not dissappoint - it blew Transgression away in my opinion too.

We have both and they are both great, but I would have to give the nod to PP as the better of the two vids IMO, I just get more pumped to ride watching PP then Transgressions, but I think owing both is a must!

I loved everything about PP, with the exception of Hampson's a$$ crack throughout his entire section.

To me, as a filmer, Transgression was a beautiful piece of cinematography. Ronn's work is amazing... with that being said- the video did nothing for me as a wakeboarder. It was way to slow paced for my style. I dig a video that gets my attention and keeps it. That is why on alot of my videos you will see slo-mo used sparingly- I like to show wakeboarding as you see it when YOU ride. I feel if you are going to do an hour long video, you want to keep the viewers attention for an hour. Randy's section(s)were off the hook, however with footage like Ronn got of him, I would have liked to see it a little more up tempo. Different style, but still a video that should be in your library. Lidberg dfinitely made his mark in Transgression- I really dug his section. So that is two sections that really stood out for me in Transgression- In Push Process, EVERY section stood out to me, and that is why I came on here and wrote that up. Very few videos (especially my own ) can say that. I just wanted to give props where props were due. People can go back and forth as to which is better- that's not what this is about. This was about "my opinion" of Push Process.

Ive only sen previews of PP and a special on Fuel TV about the making of PP and i saw all of transgression at a premier ..I agree that Transgression while a nice video and some good riding it did nothing for me(except randalls section) in the way of getting hyped to ride or go out and buy the dvd.Trans just seem to be under edited and shot way to weird ,looks and felt amatuerish, maybe thats what they were going for but hey its only my opinion.

however just from little ive seen on PP ,i am going to buy it at the boat show in FEB because the clips ive seen to date has me wanting more..

sorry if the thread turned into a bit of a "hijack." I just really thought you gave a quality review and was wondering about PP. There were comparison threads in the past, but whenever i checked them it seems they didnt really have any reviews that grabbed me.

maybe some day i will see it
