Slingshot 2014

Theres never been a better time to try out a slingshot board...

<iframe src="//player.vimeo.com/video/73585481?title=0&amp;byline=0&amp;portrait=0&amp;c olor=ffffff" width="500" height="264" frameborder="0" webkitallowfullscreen mozallowfullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>

If you've been on the fence about riding a flex board because the rumors of lack of pop or sub par wake performance maybe this video will make you think different.

dezul 09-05-2013 6:46 AM

Awesome video.

My comments on Slingshot. I rode the '13 Recoil. Loved it. The pop felt awesome. I had the LF Harley and now currently ride the LF Shane. I will be in the market for a Slingshot over the winter. My first impressions when riding the Slingshot was "this thing feels like a snowboard."

Since riding it, I have purchased my girlfriend the Response. She fell in love with Slingshot after riding the Choice. She was riding a LF Jett

ghettofab 09-05-2013 7:45 AM

All the new 2014 boots are more comfortable then ever as well.

cjh1669 09-05-2013 8:42 AM

Love my 13 Lyman, poppiest and most fun board I've ever ridden

dyost 09-06-2013 10:07 PM

Anyone know the scoop on the boards this year? Looks to me like the Kine became the Windsor and the Hooke became the Lyman, Oli gets a new board and no more Newton?

Will definitely miss the Ennen artwork. Graphics as a whole are not that good this year I don't think. The response, reflex, and shredtown all look like little kids boards. The Lyman and Windsor graphics are pretty good, Oli's is not terrible. Whip looks like a cheap Nash skateboard from 1980's. Recoil is alright....

I'm a diehard slingshot fan, but gotta say I'm a little let down by the graphics. From 2011 - 2013 the slingshot graphics were by far the best and they seemed to do something a little different. This year it looks like just the fad colors everyone else is using with some slap art that doesn't even make sense. I liked the theme of always showing the wood core in some way shape or form with the 4D graphics but a lot of the boards seem to have gone away with that for this year. Recoil, Lyman, oli and Windsor still have it.

Maybe they'll grow on me, but for now ill be looking to snatch up a 2013 response when they go on closeout.

Oh by the way the pics are in a link on the 2014 gear thread if you haven't seen them yet.

TParke 09-07-2013 1:07 AM

I rode the Windsor at the cable the other day and loved it. Lots of fun on the rails, soft landings, and I felt like it had really good pop. Different feel than the KIne. Next weekend I will take it out on the boat. I rode it with the new RAD's and loved them. The only thing I have to say is that the last couple of years I have used size 9 in the bindings. This year the RAD fit perfectly in size 10, the new KTV's I still use a 9. As far as graphics go the Windsor is nice I think. My kids were riding the Super Grom and everybody loved it. My oldest was on the Derome 132 and was very happy. The boards look good from the bottom which is what most people will see anyways.

davedidonato90 09-07-2013 4:19 AM

DYost - I get what you're saying about the graphics, it seems like LF went with " kiddy" graphics too. I do however like the SS graphics, probably my fav of all 2014 boards and in the whole SS lineup.

wakerider111 09-08-2013 10:04 AM

the description in the surf expo mag http://www.surfexpo.com/digitalMag/S13m3d/ pg 6 describes the windsor as being the softest narrowest tip and tail in the line with a thick center. Although it has the same outline and channels as the kine, the way these sandwich/flex core boards are made the board can be made to ride very differently just by changing the innards.
same i bet goes for the new Lyman, it looks like the hooke, but i have yet to read a description or see bottom features, so it might turn out to be a bit of a blend of the hooke and lyman... that's my bet anyway. A hooke with molded in fins and belly features maybe? or lyman with recoil outline?

ghettofab 09-08-2013 6:54 PM

Both the Windsor and Lyman took the best parts of the Kine and Hooke and created a great new shape. If your looking for a great boat board the Lyman is really going to impress you. As the Windsor has an insane amount of flex and liveliness. Its so fun on the rails. Gotta check em out.

All the boards are vertically laminated wood cores. No sandwich construction. All the other companies are advertising wood cores but they don't tell you they use Foam in those cores as well. We all know what happens to foam over time... It turns to dust.

Keep an eye out for all the new 2014 product videos from slingshot some really great riding and a better explanation of each board.

Hooya 09-09-2013 4:00 AM

how heavy/light in comparison to other brands are they given the wood cores?

Timebomb142 09-09-2013 5:01 AM

Just pick up a great deal on the 2013 recoil 2 weeks ago. My local board shop had it on sale then my friend that works there gave me other 15% off so got out the door $255.00 with tax. I bought it for the new cable park opening next year near my house, but have been riding it behind my Axis A22 and love it!!

aljazp 09-09-2013 5:32 AM

How durable is the grind base this year? I heard that last year models got destroyed fast..

I heard the new Lyman is A LOT different than previous years

My 2012 lasted over a year, and my 2013 is still going strong. Granted that's using it 4-5 times a week at a cable with quality sliders, not shredtowning around destroying my board

ghettofab 09-09-2013 4:08 PM

I don't think I've heard anyone ever say slingshot boards don't last... The new evershred base is going to really make these boards indestructible. Shredtown hits the gnarliest rails in wakeboarding and their boards hold up to all the punishment.

The new 2014 Lyman shape is very different then previous Lyman's. Its simplified but still built to shred. Lyman has been riding it when he has time off from training and really enjoys it.

Lets not forget people... Slingshot is still the only brand to build their entire wakeboard line in America by American workers who also enjoy the sport we love!

Right, I've meant that it has changed in a good way...

ghettofab 09-10-2013 9:27 AM

Lyman riding his new board! He had a couple days off from training and came down to Orlando for Expo.

Kane 09-10-2013 9:30 AM

Awesome to see Lyman still riding!

dezul 09-10-2013 9:45 AM

Is the Lyman comparable to any current models in it flexibleness? I heard the boots for 2014 got a major upgrade.

Prestoooooo 09-10-2013 10:09 AM

its basically the hooke with a center spine for softer landings

Hooya 09-10-2013 11:30 AM

"flexibleness?"....do you mean flexibility? :-)

davedidonato90 09-10-2013 1:02 PM

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought Lyman quit wakeboarding to join the army. I know this doesnt mean he cant still enjoy wakeboarding as a hobby when he is home but i find it weird he has a pro model board. just wondering what his status is in the world of wakeboarding right now. Would love to see more videos of him riding...great steeze

Here is my Lyman board. Attachment 31759

ghettofab 09-10-2013 1:21 PM

Curtis have you contacted Slingshot? They have an amazing warranty program. Also that track system is the first year they switched. In the last 2 years they moved the entry to the track to the middle and beefed it up to make it stronger. Sad to see it happen but things do happen.

Lyman's pro model is a tribute board. All the royalties that he would of made from sales goes to the Wounded Warrior Project. So thats the cool part about because slingshot also matches the royalties and donates it to the charity Lyman picked before joining the military.

The lyman is probably the stiffest board in the lineup. It does have a good amount of flex for behind the boat and at the cable. The new boots have been updated with focus on comfort and simpleness. The new RADs feature one lower lace system with an upper velcro strap that is adjustable and replaceable.

PotatoShack 09-10-2013 3:38 PM

^I have and I'm waiting for reply. I'm glad to hear they stand behind there product. I bought it new in April. I wanted a flex board because I broke my fib. And tib. In December. I ride 95% behind the boat. I think I was just getting used to the sling shot.

It's a modern word born out of (some) people's ignorance to the word which should be used. I doubt it is in the Oxford dictionary I have but even if it is just because it is in the dictionary doesn't make it correct use of language. :-)

Since when did Shirley English start policing the Internet for proper grammar. I am in deep trouble with some of my drunk post then. ;)

dezul 09-11-2013 5:11 AM

Getting back on topic. Which will be the more stiff/comfortable boot to get? The Shredtown or the RADs? My girlfriend is looking for a new CT binding and she would love for me to pick her up a Slingshot binding to match her board.

Check out the Jewel bindings. My wife uses those and really likes them.

TParke 09-12-2013 1:07 AM

To answer your question the 2014 RAD's are very comfortable. I think they are the best boot Slingshot has made so far. I am not a fan of the shredtowns. I would put the KTV's ahead of them.

Hooya 09-12-2013 10:37 AM

anyone got any opinions on the weight of slingshots generally?

A 142cm SS feels lighter than my 142cm LF Shane Hybrid. It feels lighter riding too.

Hooya 09-12-2013 1:39 PM

Thanks.

They look lighter and certainly thinner than most boards

ghettofab 09-13-2013 9:57 AM

Their light and simple. Solid wood. Instead of trying to combine wood and foam like most companies making flex boards.

Simplej I live overseas and when I got the pricelist for the boards this year the Shredtown was the same price as the Whip and the Lyman were last year. Almost a 30% increase from last year. We sold it for (with the conversion to dollars) $449. This year the cost is $585. All the other boards were essentially the same price. I am not sure what they are selling for in the states. If you can get them for $450 then that is a good deal.

I wear a 9.5 in Nike and the 2014 RADs the size 10 fit perfectly. The KTV's I had to size down to 9. I have wide feet. I think if you have skinny feet then you may be able to size down.

TParke 09-17-2013 5:59 AM

Also I have been riding with their new impact vest and it is the most comfortable vest I have ever owned.

What's the official word on the ktv update? Molded tongue? And improved liner?

raceman121 09-17-2013 11:07 AM

Anyone have that picture of the shreadtown board being stood on and flexed? Or the video where he dose that. Where he puts his foot in the middle of the board and pushes on it.

I was looking for a new SS board, was set on the 2013 Kine, but know don't know with the 2014 Lyman or Oli. 100% boat riding. Has anyone had a chance to ride the 2014 boards behind the boat?

ghettofab 09-18-2013 1:12 PM

CAL28- Both boards excel behind the boat. Go check out the slingshot website for a little more info on each of the boards. Your not gonna regret either.

Ttime41 09-19-2013 8:26 AM

Just out of curiosity ghettofab, what is your affiliation with slingshot? Stoked about the new product by the way

Hooya 09-19-2013 9:49 AM

Does anyone use the 3 strap boots? In the vid the straps look really long and never look fully attached all the way round. Think having a strap or two flap about would be quite annoying? Thoughts?

dezul 09-19-2013 11:04 AM

Are you talking about the orange Shredtowns? I like the Shredtowns, The slip-in boot locks you in very comfortably. The velcro straps needs a little strength to get tight but it works great. I was skeptical about them until I rode them. They keep you locked in. They appear bulky but they aren't an issue.

Cheers Tim, yes I was talking about the shredtowns.

Probably more cost effective to cover it with vinyl than to try and order a one-off.

Custom board graphics not possible unfortunately. Maybe just spray paint it black if you really don't want to see those graphics? Sorry you don't like them. Can't please everyone I suppose :(
