Zinc anodes

I leave my boat in the water at a marina and was wondering if zinc anodes on the shaft are required. It is a fresh water lake but there are some crappy old boats in this marina.

Zinc is only for salt water, try a magnesium one.

Just googled it and magnesium anodes are for fresh water, not zinc. Anyone using them? Just clamp to shaft and go?

Shouldn't matter what water your boat is sitting in. A zinc anode will protect the shaft. You may not need it though because it is in fresh water.
