Just got a Contour Camera
Just ordered a Contour 2 on the cheap thanks to them going out of business, I'm a little worried about that... but oh well. Anybody else use one?
I really like the low profile, when compared to a gopro, and supposedly the app is pretty awesome so looking forward to that. I have an older MacBook will iMovie be alright to use as a film editor or should I be looking into a different program? I'm glad gopro has done so well, though i think competition fuels progression and losing their main competitor will hurt us all eventually. Any hints appreciated :) |
We use a Contour out on the boat regularly. It puts out pretty good quality video, tracks GPS location, speed, elevation, distance traveled, etc. They did go out of business, but the servers where they keep all your uploads seems to be up with no notice so far that they are shutting those down. Just in case make sure to keep a backup elsewhere.
I like them overall. Best part is, it gets great quality video and frees up our cell phones so we can use them for our playlists instead! |
Alright good to know I'm not the only one using it haha...
It took a bit to download the storyteller program, since they deactivated the link off the Contour site, but seems real easy to use so far. I've been playing around with it a bit, kinda disappointed I cant switch settings without plugging it into a computer :/ and the app doesnt work since I only have the ROAM2 and not 2+, oh well. Hopefully I can keep with everybody on here and make some solid edits. |
I have a Roam that I use a lot on the snow and for bike racing. I don't find the need to connect to the computer to edit the cam settings a big deal. Not sure I have ever changed them since I set it.
I also just picked up a Garmin VIRB Elite and will start to use that too. Want to run to camera and edit the video together. The Garmin has some cool overlays for speed, GPS, acceleration, maps... |
Contour apparently is trying to come back.
|
Really? Where did you hear that? That would be really surprising considering everything I have seen.

Haha but thats awesome I cant wait to see what they work on next. |
I've been using my Garmin VIRB a lot, really like the picture quality and GPS. The one thing Contour does I wish Garmin did is the rotating lens. On the Contour you can simply twist the lens to bring it level. On the Garmin there is a software setting for 0' or 180' (right side up or up side down) only. Being able to mount the Garmin at 90' or 270' would fit my needs.

Yes, they are coming back. that is good news. I have had a contour for many years. I started with the 720p version when they were named VHoldr. I then had a Contour 1080p and finally ended up with a Contour GPS.
It's a great camera and has better sound quality than gopro. It has less of the FishEye look. The profile is way better for mounting on a helmet and in some cases for mounting on a motorcycle. The contours are more suseptible to wind noise so placement is very important so you don't get wind noise audio. I have the waterproof case for mine and a variety of mounts. It's been a great camera. |
