I want to make my own wakeskate, but a friend of mine works in a skate shop and he says that griptape won't stick in water. Is this true? or is there something I can do to stop it?

I retaped one of mine with griptape from my skate shop and it didn't peel off.

I just re-gripped mine with industrial grip tape that they use on ladders, etc in factories and it is coarse and works well !!!

Is That Stuff cheaper than skate griptape? Where do you get it?

Mine was way cheaper, like free. I would check with online for an industrial supply catalog, or check with local factories and see if their maintenance department may have some that they can sell you. I had a friend get me some from the place he works. It will scar you up pretty good though if you land on it. I guess any griptape will, but this stuff is coarse.

i made my old wakeskate and got up on it, but i need to put some fins on it but don't know how to. <BR>My uncle had a very old wake board, one of the ones that is shaped like a surfboard, and it didn't have and of the hole drilled in it or anything. I went down to home deopt and got some rubber suff that keeps things from sliding around on conters or other things and ducktaped it on the board. I threw on some old shoes and it worked ok just really hard to control cuz theres no fins
