Any Colo people know anything about Wolf Creek?

Is it worth the drive? My son is in Colorado Springs at college and was thinking about running down there. It's a 5 1/2 hour drive or so, which we are used to driving to Mammoth from our house, but we don't have anywhere closer worthwhile.
He has several places within a couple hours of C Springs.

(Message edited by rio_sanger on January 23, 2010)

Never been to Wolf Creek, but it is known for always having some of the best (and most) snow in CO.

If you're willing to travel a bit farther, I would highly recommend hitting up Telluride. It's probably the most beautiful ski area in the US. Has great terrian (both lift and hike-to), good snow, and is supposedly never crowded. I'd definetely check it out.

They get a ton of snow, but it's kind of flat.

From CS, most of the time, I would probably just stop at Monarch or Crested Butte. But there are days that it would be worth the extra drive. CB is a much, much better hill when they have snow.

Word for word what shreadhead said. Mucho snow, but low angle.

CB and Monarch are easy targets from Springs, 4 1/2 or 5 hours to the Butte, less to Monarch. Mirkwood Basin at Monarch is great.

(Message edited by scrupulous on January 25, 2010)

Its not flat go ride knife ridge its about a 60 degree pitch with cliff drops. It is worth the drive when they get dumped on deep pow and awesome terrain.

I have never been there, but this year they look like they have significant more snow than most CO. resorts. Over 250" of snow ytd. Thats 2X what CB has.
