i am looking at a 07 xstar. The boat is sick only 50 hours, but only has the small engine in it. Anybody have this motor in there x star and if so how much weight can you add. thanks for the info

Just get a new prop and don't plan on winning any on plane races.

I'd say MCX minimum. I am repropping my LY6. Unless the boat is a smoking deal, I'd pass.

07 X Star with 310hp?

Dble check its the 310 & not the MCX, I thought the base motor in the X-star was the MCX.

no the base is the 310hp the upgrades are mcx,ly6 and the 8.1

Propped right it should be good, the torque on the 310 is good. Top end speed will suffer, but overall you really only need it to jump out of the hole and hit 24. <BR> <BR>If you were buying new I'd say get the 350 or 400 (aweseome!) but for the right price I'd take a 310 buy a prop and some extra sacs then call it a day.

you honestly think that a 310 hp motor that already comes with a 4 blade prop will get on plane with a 4200 lbs boats ith the min 3k in ballast you need to get a decently solid wake and say 4 people in the boat. I have trouble with my 330hp motor that was re-proped and i have a sanger that weighs 2800 lbs and i run 2k in ballast plus a few peeps. Talk about over stressing a motor! <BR> <BR>i bet you can get one new with the 350hp mcx from nor cal m.c. for less than this used one. thanks for the info the boat is going for 54,900 out the door the boat is 59,939 or something like that my wife and i really like the boat but i am concerned that the motor will not be strong enough . i dont care about top speed i would have to reprop but i dont want it to take 100 yards to get on plane the other option is a 07 vlx for the same price

Didn't MC stop making that boat/motor combo because it was too underpowered for most owners? <BR>If your not going to weight it, it should be OK. But even full of people it might be tough to get on plane. <BR>I'd definitely take it for a test drive...... with the tanks full &amp; your family on board.

MCX with a new prop, that is what i run with 2,500+ in ballast and its get up to plane with no problem. i also run it at about 4700 altitude

no the mcx is 350 horses. you need to go talk to a dealer and learn about the boat your about to spend 60k on. x stars are made for pro or expert riders not for anything else. Sounds like your are buying a name. I almost got caught in the same thing until i did some research and found out i was wasting my money. You need to run several thousand pounds in that boat and if you do you need to ride 24 mph+ do you have any idea how that is going to throw you? ride one at least first. Then try a x-15 or x-1 and then make your choice.

I second what Soli said. imo, it is underpowered, and would not buy. keep looking.

Soli im gonna have to disagree with you on this. x stars are not made for pro riders only. This boat is awesome for the beginner or even intermediate rider to progress well with just stock balance and 5 or 6 friends you have an awesome wake as long as you don't get caught up with riding 75 and 80 foot rope lengths like pros. at 70 feet and 21-22 mph the wake is the best out their for beg/int riders. now yeah if you are gonna want to ride at 80 feet yeah youre gonna have to go atleast 24 which is the same as anyother boat. Behind the xstar i ride 80-85 feet at 25-26 mph and have 3500 lbs and i get pro level wakes. the x-star is well suited for all levels of riders. if you don't wanna go fast then ride a shorter rope with stock ballast

Maybe, but I wouldn't buy for resale value alone. IMO you might have a hard time selling this thing. Unless you get it for a smokin' deal and sell it for a better deal!

If you're used to riding, or if you plan on riding a big wake at faster speeds and a longer line, that motor will a problem for you. If you don't care about producing the conditions that the pro riders ride, then you will be okay with that motor.

I think your question has been answered however you are not listening and trying to convince yourself that it will be fine since it is "such a good deal". <BR> <BR>An MCX (350hp) with a reprop and 3000-4000lbs of weight is the minimum. It gets up on plane fine with this scenario however you do suffer top speed. (I have ridden and driven one this way). Trust everyone, if you want that 3000+lbs and want to get up on plane in a reasonable time without tearing the crap out of the motor... pass this by and wait for one with the MCX or better. <BR> <BR>It is probably a good deal for a reason, most people that run extra weight aren't going to want an XStar with 310hp, period. I have a 07 X Star w/ 350hp MCX for sale $ 62,900

yes the 310 will get the job done just fine. The MCX and RTP have almost identical torque signatures as well as almots same HP numbers on the low end (out of the hole). As you climb in RPM the HP slowy climbs away from the RTP but only very gradually. The MCX shines when you get past 5000 RPM and keeps going with a higher top speed. It is the the exact same base engine, so the extra 40 HP is on the top end due to better air intake, fuel mapping, and CAT manifolds. Hope this helps as I researched this too and ended up talking to Indmar in length about it.

i have an 06 x-star with an MCX. i usually run it at about 3700ft elevation. it came with a 13.75x17 stock prop (i think). it worked oK, but when i put on a 14.25x14 prop the boat came alive...it jumps out of the hole and pulls very steady. i usually have about 6 or 8 in the boat and full ballast - not really into the 5 fat sack thing, too lazy, and we ride at 70 feet. <BR>Honestly that stock prop should never have been sold with that boat, The MCX is the minimum i would get.

i agree with water freak. I have the MCX and still needed to re-prop. Even with that new prop I struggle to plane in a reasonable amount of time with full tanks, 2 sacs in back, 2 under the front seats, lead spread around for fine tuning, full to 1/2 tank fuel and 4 people or so. People tend to over estimate the ballast they are running. I have run ~ 2800 in the past and thats a lot.. If the water depth is decent, you shouldn't need much more than that.
