I have a 17 ft edgewater fishing boat and the wake is horrible.
So, i want to build something to hit for my sessions to be fun.
What's the easiest way to build a pretty descent rail that can be moved in and out of the water easily?

find a buddy with a few of them.

I'd say a floating rail is probably gonna be your best bet.

floaters are more difficult IMO. its easier to pound 3 4x4's. put some cross supports in, a 2x8 on top of the posts some trek on top of that and bang you got yourself a rail.

here's one we built in a day

THAT RAIL LOOKS FAMILAR ALMOST LIKE IT USE TO BE DOWN IN SALINAS OR SOMETHING

there is a guy from out of town that rides with me some. he has made several rails, in a pretty interesting way. he said he goes out in the woods with a saw and finds a few 6-8in diameter trees and cuts them into sections of the needed length. this is where it gets good. cuts off the limbs and stands them up in a 5 gal bucket, pours in cement and lets it set up. Then takes it out to the spot and drops them 6-8 ft apart and then cuts the tops off to the desired lenght. Screw in the top of the slider and add a few support 2x4's on the post and you're good to go. he said he can build them pretty quick and the trees cut down on costs. he also said he sometimes keeps the small limbs (not anything that would hurt if you hit it) on the trees and tells people they are duck blinds.
