I was out catching a quick set this afternoon and no one was minding the rope and this happened!!!

Is it a goner? What will happen if I continue to use it. This was an accurate 85' coated line. I am PI$$ed!!

It looks like you just broke the outer coating. It should be fine.

hillbilly 08-09-2008 7:42 PM

Yeah I knotted my coated line and just pulled the coating off, Still works fine.

andy13 08-09-2008 8:20 PM

you'll be fine s it is, but ive seen a few people wrap electrical tape around it

sidekicknicholas 08-09-2008 8:28 PM

i have an older rope just like it that has 2 tiny strands holding it together... duct tape too.... it works fine

reconabe 08-10-2008 8:16 AM

thanks, I thought i was going to have to buy a new rope!

johnsvt 08-10-2008 11:22 AM

it it toast send it to me. I will give you a dollar for it.

I had the same thing happen to the same rope. Worst thing is now the rope doesnt float very well.

26lacefield 08-10-2008 1:12 PM

you have nothing to worry about.

eas 08-12-2008 9:07 AM

p.s. i don't think duct tape will stick in water for very long. that's how kidnap victims get it off their mouths...they get it wet by licking it.

and no, you can't know how i know that!

dizzyg 08-12-2008 9:59 AM

the worst part is it might scratch your precious finger when it slides through your hand now. It's totally fine

wake1823 08-12-2008 10:24 AM

BWAAAAHAHAHAHA!!!

Are you serious?

you need to come ride with my crew for a day, lol. we've got a rope using 5 differnt ropes to make one. Ever seen a guy throw a 313 from a rope that looks like it was stolen out of dumpster behind wal-mart?

behindtheboat 08-12-2008 11:04 AM

Why Sam, why?

phatboypimp 08-12-2008 12:40 PM

Not sure if it would help....just trying to think out of the box. Hardware stores sell a rubber dipping liquid that is used for coating tools etc. Might help cover the exposed rope and help it last longer.

aces6692 08-12-2008 10:42 PM

it will be fine, i have a proline rope and it has parts like that in like 3 spots, and it still works fine

xstarrider 08-13-2008 12:34 AM

If you are worried just go to hardware store a get a heat activated wire shrink wrap. Slide it over heat it with hair dryer and will seal itself and the rope. Pretty much what Accurate uses over their sections.

But that rope is fine. ZERO damage except for show.

reconabe 08-13-2008 8:01 AM

Thanks for all the comments, that hardest part was getting the knot undone, I will probably do the shrink wrap thing, I've ridden it twice now with no probs

jon4pres 08-13-2008 8:12 AM

The know will be hard to get done but try laying it flat on something and hitting it with a hammer. I will loosen up the knot some and the you should be able to get something in it and unknot it.
