Ever since I bought my boat, the shower only puts out hot water when the cold tap is on. It's a Heatercraft 1S shower system on a 2002 Mercury 315 EFI engine. I checked the taps and they work correctly, which means the cold water from the engine is actually hot. I traced the pipes back and found that the hot water one is installed correctly, and the cold is attached with a barb to the thermostat housing (I have no digital camera, so if you are facing the front of the engine, the cold pipe is attached to the right side of the thermostat housing). This makes no sense to me, as it appears that the cold water pipe is on the wrong side of the thermostat. Anyone else have a shower installed on this engine? Did you just put a tee in between the water pump and the thermostat? <BR> <BR>I contacted Svfara, but they haven't responded yet, and there is no repair depot within 700 miles. <BR> <BR>Thanks <BR> <BR>Trash <BR>

Your cold water should be splice in right before or right after your trans cooler. I have never seen a shower spliced in after the thermostat housing. The hot water should be coming from a block plug.

It shows a pic of where the cold water intake should go at <a href="http://wakeworld.com/articles/2003/shower.asp" target="_blank">http://wakeworld.com/articles/2003/shower.asp</a>. It should go between the raw water intake and the thermostat, meaning between the lake and the thermostat.

Well this is what I don't understand. The shower was installed from the factory this way. I looked at the article, and it makes sense on where the cold water should be tapped from. I'm not an engine genius, but (I think) they installed it in the wrong place. I guess I'll have to find a plug to replace the barb on the thermostat housing and cut into the waterpump-to-thermostat piping. <BR> <BR>Hmmm..... <BR> <BR>Trash <BR>

You sure your not looking at a heater hose instead? It should be a blue hose for the cold water in the shower.

Nope, I'm sure it's the shower hose. Both hot and cold (red and blue) are routed from the back of the boat to the engine. The hot (red) attaches to a tee fitting near the bottom of the engine (same piping for the heater hose) and the blue (cold) routes to the top of the engine onto a barb on the thermostat housing. I disconnected the hose and put it in some water and tested to make sure the pump and taps were operating correctly. The only possible explanation I can see is that there is hot water coming from the barb on the thermostat. The engine operates at normal temperature, so I can only assume that the factory attached it to a hot water point and not a cold water point. <BR> <BR>Trash

Sounds like that is what they did. I would take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. That should have been caught prior to delivery. Good Luck

Does the heater work properly, or does it run cold? They may have swapped the cold shower and the heater supply tubes by accident. Meaning the shower is hooked up to where the heater should be and vice versa. Either way, definitely take it back to the dealer to fix since it is a manufacturing error.

Nope, I double and triple checked the hoses. Heater works properly. There is no dealer within 700 miles of me, so bringing it back is not an option. <BR>I contacted Svfara yesterday and they're supposed to call me back. The person I talked to yesterday acknowledged that some boats went out <BR>with the hose attached to the wrong place on the engine, but didn't elaborate more. I guess I should have read that in your posts. <BR> <BR>Anyway, the shower is definitely hooked up wrong. Normally they will hook the hot water fitting to EITHER the thermostat or one of the engine drains. Re-reading you posts, it sounds like both the hot and cold water hose are hooked up to both of these locations. This results in the obvious hot-only water temp. <BR> <BR>Make sure your heater is hot enough for you when you are just idling too. Heatercraft has come out with the new fitting for the return line that helps keep the heater blowing hot air when the boat is idling. If you heater doesn't put out good heat at idle, have the dealership make that "fix" too. It is the least they can do for your inconvenience.

Well, Svfara contacted me again today and is sending out a kit to fix it up<img src="http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/clipart/happy.gif" border=0>. While I'm quite impressed with them about how they handled it (admitted it was something done in error at mfg and not trying to cover it up), I was disappointed to find out that the rep/dealer I bought it from was supposed to have known about the problem but didn't bother to tell me. Hmmmm. <BR>It also sounds like they are trying to set up a dealer close to my location as well. Hopefully that comes to fruition soon! <BR> <BR>Trash <BR>
