go Cougs, just another reason to bring down the BCS and get a playoff. Now we need Oklahoma to have a good season unlike Michigan last year for the Utes.

deuce 09-05-2009 9:05 PM

The talk on ESPN about OU not being the same without Bradford in the line-up is odd to me. I watched from start to finish and OU offense didn't do much the entire game....start to finish. Not to say that losing your QB and the reigning Heisman candidate is not a kick in the Jimmy....but it was not like they were lighting it up in the first half....

Bradford played the entire first half and scored one touchdown, that being after a muffed punt that gave OU the ball at the 20ish....

Both teams were sloppy and made too many mistakes. BYU had 4 turnovers....

mjfan23 09-05-2009 9:08 PM

Agreed.

Bama looked tough tonight.

goinbigg17 09-06-2009 5:31 AM

I saw the same thing going on with OU EJ. They had no offense to start with, it was definately a fight on both ends of the ball and BYU came out ahead.

I'm bummed the Dawg's lost last nigth to LSU but man that was a WAYYYY better turnout than I expected it to be.

My alma mater is finally coming around GO VOLS! I can't remember the last time we had over 600 yards of offense. I know it was against WKU but in recent seasons we have struggled againse weak teams. So far I am liking the Lane Kiffin era.

tcaz 09-06-2009 6:24 PM

hook em horns!

fogey 09-06-2009 9:32 PM

Bruizza, the Vols were fun to watch for sure - and for a change. The offense still has has issues to resolve (int's, tipped passes, and a fumble), but Hardesty looked pretty good, and Crompton is SO much better. And man, do the Vols have some talented freshmen!

Next Saturday should be fun too, seeing as how UCLA struggled yesterday with its own issues. Now, as for the 19th - well, miracles CAN happen.

breakthewake 09-07-2009 7:54 AM

Jeff I like the way you think. The 19th is going to be a huge game this year. I can't wait. I agree that Crompton looked strong even though he was throwing against a weak secondary, his passes were on the money. The "real" UT will have its first true test this week will UCLA. I am hoping that Kiffin will live up to the hype.

paulsmith 09-07-2009 8:07 AM

GOOOOOO BRUINS!

I don't think we're "there" yet to the point where we can win at UT next Saturday. But I'll be watching and hoping, that's for sure.

briand 09-07-2009 11:44 AM

Insuranceman, that game sucked. (obviously a GA fan.) The dawgs came out fine then thanks to our brilliant o coordinator we got nothin done the rest of the game. Not to mention our D missed about 7 easy interceptions.... Can you tell I'm not happy about another bad season for GA?

bruizza 09-07-2009 7:01 PM

fogey I wish I could have watched the game but it wasn't on in Colorado. I can't wait to watch them play UCLA next weekend. We play Florida on my Bday so I am really hoping the Vols can win and give me one of the best Bday presents of my life!

Ohhhh, here we go with the SEC is SOOO much better.. Nonsense.
Lets get some score predictions on Ohio State and USC.

I'll stir the pot a bit. I would put Cal, and USC against ANYBODY in the SEC...

deuce 09-12-2009 12:10 PM

Cal can try to make me a believer, but until they do..... 1 Conference title(shared) in 30 years is statement enough. EVERY YEAR is supposed to be Cal's year to do something.....and then.....

USC, yes.....they can play with anyone in the country....year in and year out. They are in a class in CFB that includes VERY FEW TEAMS.

I am not saying the SEC is sooo much better, just that the cream is better than the cream of most conferences. They also have a thicker level of cream than the PAC 10/BIG 10...

BIG 12 and SEC appear to be a level above the PAC 10, BIG 10....

In fact....I'll go a step further, IMO, take USC out of the PAC 10 and you have a BIG EAST, ACC level conference. The BIG 10, most overrated conference in CFB EVERY YEAR....

GO FRESNO....OVERTIME!!! Good if a Non-AQ team can win against a BIG 10 team....

EDIT for spelling}

(Message edited by Deuce on September 12, 2009)

gene3x 09-12-2009 12:11 PM

lol there is always this arument. You know that, but the proof is in the play. Most Pac-10 guys say "this is a down year except for USC & "insert random team" , they will kick anybody's ass. Then they get knocked off by an unranked nobody.

This year:

SEC - 1
PAC10 - 0

airrantz 09-12-2009 12:18 PM

Gene let's not go too far with that SEC 1-0 versus PAC-10. I'm a Husky but let's face it we've lost 15 straight and took it to LSU. Not a good showing by the SEC there. And Oklahoma State laying the smack down on Georgia doesn't help. I think Alabama and Florida are legitimate title contenders but all the SEC is superior than everyone else is BS.

airrantz 09-12-2009 12:22 PM

gene3x 09-12-2009 12:34 PM

lol I know it is WAY to early in the season to start making any tough talk or predictions. I actually do enter the start of the season with an open mind and don't put my SEC goggles on until mid season.

OK State beat Georgia, they did not smack them, which is not really surprising as they are a contendor in one of the best conferences in the nation and were ranked higher. OU got smacked because it was such an unexpected upset.

09-12-2009 12:58 PM

Exactly Ryan. Florida looses to a 9-4 MSU team, but its OK because its another SEC team. USC looses to a 9-4 Oregon State team, but its OSU so its not OK. Florida plays for the national title, meanwhile USC is beating the crap out of Penn State. Its nonsense. the Pac-10 goes 5-0 in bowl games, and the people with SEC goggles still cant get a clue.

I know this is all last year, and its in the past. This year is different. mjfan23 09-13-2009 9:21 AM

GettingOlder - Florida paid 450k to charlerston and if you kno anything about college football alot of big name schools do this.

Joe - Urban meyer is brilliant for putting this schedule together. You go undefeated and win the SEC, your going to the national championship. Thats how the system works, like it or not.. brilliant.

mjfan23 09-13-2009 9:24 AM

EJ - pyror is a stud?! haha I hope your kidding. Heck of an athlete terrible QB.

three6ty 09-13-2009 9:31 AM

Eric,
I agree. When your already a top 5 team there is no need to play a hard out of conference schedule. The SEC is hard enough week in and week out. Florida doesn't need to get beat up anymore often than they do in the SEC. Take your easy wins and Play hard in Conference and you set yourself up for the Big Dance!!

Now if your like a Utah or BYU or Boise St. who play in a weaker division then you have to play a tough outside conference schedule to get some respect and national coverage.
Big team in the Big 12, SEC, Pac 10 dont have to prove themselves outside of conference cause they prove it every week in conference.

But I do want someone to beat Florida and have an interview with a player after the game when he says " The Devil was on our side today and we kicked God's next savior's ASS"

fogey 09-13-2009 9:41 AM

UCLA looked good, Paul. That was a win that you (and my brother!) had a lot of reason to enjoy. Plus, the QB took a lickin' and kept on tickin', and the whole team got better as the game went on. No excuses here - y'all beat us, on the road, fair and square.

stepintoliquid 09-13-2009 10:25 AM

What an atmosphere they have at Tenn. I'm still in shock the Bruins went in there and won. Tenn seems good to me, they just need a QB.

Some Bruin fans posted some pics and writeups from their trip to the game. They just gushed about how awesome the atmosphere is there and how great the UT fans are.

gene3x 09-13-2009 11:35 AM

Tennesee, Bama, and LSU have the greatest atmosphere for football in the SEC for sure.

It does kindasuck that Florida has such a light schedule. It really puts alot of the other good SEC teams at a disadvantage.

magellan 09-13-2009 12:45 PM

Eric, thanks for the college football clarification. I guess that I was off by a few hundred grand makes it OK.
Understand, I have no issue with schools paying to play other schools. However, the fact that Florida can play a school such as Charleston Southern in their schedule while being the supposed #1 team is laughable. Seriously.

mjfan23 09-13-2009 12:59 PM

romes 09-13-2009 12:59 PM

not really MAgellan...it happens in all college sports..and even in the pro's...

in college we used to play some of the minor league teams while we were down there for our spring trip. in basketball there's all the pre-season tournaments where its (insert top 5 team name here) and then a bunch of non-top 25 teams.

Florida playing CSU was not only good for Florida but for CSU as well. CSU gets paid and their kids get to play in against the top team in the country. its not really that big of a deal. hell sometimes those I-AA schools give the big boys a run for their money. remember App. State and Michigan?

hayes 09-13-2009 5:32 PM

Tennessee losing was not that big of a shocker. I mean they were horrible last year!

The problem I have with the PAC-10 and Big Ten is that they have no title game. That really puts the SEC/Big Twelve at a disadvantage in that it could easily knock you out of the championship hunt.

LET'S GET A PLAYOFF THEN EVERYONE CAN QUIT BITCHING!!

mjfan23 09-14-2009 8:22 AM

I never said there was not a difference, i was talking about opening games. Its a way for teams to get back in the weekly routine of how things are done. Its also a great opportunity for the teams such as Charleston southern. The fact that florida paid Charleston southern to come pay is not a big deal and happens ALOT around college football.
