I have a 2006 Chevy Silverado 2500HD with a Duramax. Here is my problem: I want to have something to camp in but still take my boat (04 Moomba Mobius LSV) and take some quads. My friends say to get a 5th wheel toy hauler and pull the boat behind that. If I want to lift my truck, that might pose a problem. Does anyone have experience with this??

no one has experience with this? What is your setup for going camping and taking the boat?

Here in Florida, I dont think you can legally pull a boat behind any type of trailer unless is is a commercial vehicle. One quad and a tent and you are set if your HD is a shortbed. Lift it and put a drop hitch on the back for the boat trailer.

quads, boating and camping. Hmmm.... <BR> <BR>I have seen trailers where they added a second story to a boat trailer and had PWCs stored high. Hydraulic system would lower the top rack once the boat was off. You might be able to do something similar to store quads up high. Clearing the tower might be a problem though. <BR> <BR>Camping and boating is best done with a motorhome. If your truck has a full size bed you might get by with a slide in camper. <BR> <BR>I know people who tow two trailers. One is a truck driver and claims that it is okay if you have the commerical truck license. Another one just does it and says he has never been stopped or challenged, but he doesn't do it very often or go very far. <BR> <BR>Towing two trailers will definately be a hassle. Forget backing up. Pulling into gas stations could be an issue. The people I know who have done it have always towed a heavy and a light trailer, such as a ski boat followed by a PWC, or a camping trailer followed by a light runabout. A toy hauler followed by a 3000+ pound wakeboard boat could be interesting.

It can be done, but not if your truck is lifted. <BR>The fifth wheel wont work well. <BR>Search on here I have seen a huge thread with pics and advise on how to do it. <BR>I saw a 5th wheel and boat set up just this past weekend coming back from the river. <BR>Looks like a bitch to back up though

Thanks for all the great advise. I think I should just talk my buddy into buying the toy hauler since I bought the boat. Seems fair.

I use to have a F-350 dually with a slide-in truck camper and towed the boat many times that way. You can get them large enough to sleep 3-4 people. <BR> <BR>You have plenty of power in your truck to do that. Also, truck campers don't need registration or insurance (your truck ins. should cover that) and no maintenance. <BR> <BR>Best brands would be Coachman, Lance, Bigfoot. There are others, but just can't think of them right now.

just put one if those nice removable campers in the bed of the truck and hook the boat up like you normally would. when you get back from camping pull the camper off the truck and your truck is back to normal.

why not a bumper pull @28' with the quads in the truck bed and pull the boat behind or a toy hauler with the quads inside and pullin the boat

I know a guy with a bumper pull toy hauler, he pulls it behind his suburban. Around here lots of people pull there campers with boats behind them. Being in Iowa it's mostly fishing boats here though. If it's bumper pull having a lifted truck shouldn't be a problem. <BR> <BR>(Message edited by wally247 on October 09, 2006)

I have seen around town the slide in truck campers with the trucks at stock height sway back and forth like they were going to tip over which pushed me away from that choice thinking that lifting the truck would make everything tip over. I looked into the them more and found that some of the truck campers that I have seen can weigh up to 3500lbs. I found that Lance Lite makes one at 1700lbs which would really work for me. As far as the quads go, we need a third anyways to wakeboard so I can have whoever goes pull a flatbed with the quads on that. That is probably my best bet.
