Prop for high altitude?
 

So we are moving to CO this summer. I have a 98 tige 2200v with about 300+ hp or so. No problems with power at sea level in WA state or down in Louisiana. We took it to bear lake one year and I cold not believe how gutless it was.

Short of buying a new boat or getting a bigger engine, what are my options? Specifically, what recommendations for a prop? We do an even mix of skating, wakeboarding, slalom and hydrofoiling. I ski at about 34 MPH.

I run the acme 911 in elevations but might be lil much for you. But at 7000' with 2k in ballastt it's a beast! Then again I don't ski,I think my top speed is around 37 mph.

You will be able to hit past 34 with most props. I don't know what your drive ratio is but if you want a quick guess on prop size: At 5000' you are down over 20% in power due to the thinner air. You can pick up that 20% by taking it off the pitch. If you have been running a 13" pitch you drop 2.6" off the pitch putting you at roughly 10.5. You've dropped you theoretical top speed by 20% also so if you used to do 44 you now do 35.
There is a lot more to it than that but it will get you close. In essence the lower pitch gives you torque multiplication to get similar acceleration.

I had the same boat and used the ACME 515. It is a 3 blade, 13 x 12 x 0.080 Don't let the pitch fool you, it was very smooth (thanks to the .080 cup, i think) and it had a good top speed of 45 ish?? I ran approx 3200-3600 lbs of ballast in it with that prop and the 315 with throttle body injection. I took it up to 4000+ elevation with that ballast and it did fine there as well.

I live in Colorado and use the Acme 1235. I have an RZ2 with the 343 PCM and 2k in ballast.

I had to upgrade to the OJ 14.25 X 14 for our elevation which is 6,000 ft. The prop does a lot better than the stock which I believe is 13 X 17. That one could barely get on plane. The new one gets up pretty quickly. The max ballast we run is 2400lbs. Top speed is maybe 35 though.

Not sure about your fitment but I have the acme 1235 prop I am selling for 375$ I think it is like a 600$ prop. I have only used it like 30 hours and perfect condition. I think it is 14.25x14.25 and I can yank about 4500 lbs and wedge out of the water on my axis with the 335 motor

Also I am about 400 ft above sea level. Colo would be more but that prop would be prefect if u were running about 3k in ballast and can still hit like 40mph. Axis calls it the high altitude prop lol
