I'm headed to Queenstown, New Zealand for the first two weeks of December. I thought I heard somewhere that time of year is summer? Anyone wakeboard over there? Im staying on some huge lake, so Im hoping to get some riding in. What else is there to do that would be recommended? I am not a "sit still and relax" kind of person and I hear this area is a great place for off the wall stuff to do? Any info would be appreciated!

QT rules for adventure fun. Bungy, jet boat, mountain bike is the staple that time of year. Yes, its peak summer with the weather in the 80's. Food and wine in QT are stunningly good, if you are into wine there are great wine tours. It is a beautiful beautiful place.

I have got friends who live there with wakeboard boats, send me an email and I will put you in touch. If you are spending any time in the North Island let me know I can hook you up in Auckland and we have a lake house close to Taupo (central North Island)

I appreciate it Ralph, and I'll send you an email shortly.
Good food and wine sound like icing on the cake! The various websites make the place just look incredible. I need to break out a map - how far is Auckland from QT? Im pretty sure I switch planes in Auckland..

Yes, its a 1:30hr flight from Aucks to QT. You could drive it, would be a solid 16 hrs + 2hr ferry ride between the Islands.

Very cool town, Ted. People there are coming from all over the world. I'm not sure if it'll be the right time of year, but there is some good WW rafting to be done not too far out. Make sure you hit up the Canyon Swing while you're there.

What is the Canyon Swing? I saw the WW rafting - I have to give that a go for sure. Isnt that usually a spring time activity though?

The Canyon Swing is madness, kinda like a bungy jump mixed with a rope swing... check it out here http://www.canyonswing.co.nz/index.php

There's some info about the rafting here. http://www.rafting.co.nz/

Price list says valid from 1st Oct 08 to 30th September 09 so I would guess they run all year as long as they can make up the numbers on the day.

Canyon swing looks intense - Im in! I like the "sharp rocks" description - adds to the flavor. Its really starting to look like I made a good choice for a two week break! Thanks Jos

Hey Derek - yeah, I ran across Ballistics website yesterday and if I do have time in Auck I will definately stop by!
