Prop options....need your experiences
 

WOrking with a '12 Snager V215 and the current prop on it is an ACME 537. Walters V-drive is 1:1.5 and im getting a couple reccomendations on ACME vs OJ. Altitude is usually around 1000' above sea level

537 Specs
-13.5"
-pitch - 16
-cup - .105

ACME says go to the 1631 as it will give me a decent improvement on holeshot but still allow for a minimal loss on top end
-13.5"
-pitch - 14.25
-cup - .150

OJ says the real way to gain holeshot and not lose top-end is to increase diameter, which i cannot do because of my hull shape. He reccomended to simply decrease pitch a bit but if i went any lower than 15 i would lose a ton off the top end

My main question is if anyone with experience (never messed with diff props) can give me their opinion. The acme team at least acknowledges that the cup size should help in the top speed department and minimize any loss.....OJ makes me feel like it s alost cause unless i dont care about losing a ton up top.

in reality we ride 10-15 minutes from the dock and spend the majority of our time wakeboarding at 20-23mph. Trying to figure out if changing out is a total waste. seems like getting on plane is a tad difficult when we are loaded with ballast, people, and pulling a 220lb+ rider.

Acme 1631 hands down...

The .150 cup will give you a great hole shot.. You'll loose about 5 mph top end (40 mph ).. and the lower pitch will reduce a ton of stress off your damper plate and trans..

And you can run up to 3k of ballast and have plenty of pull.. Gas consumption will go up a bit but it's a lot less than paying to change a damper plate...

For sure go with the Acme 1631. Great prop for boats without the clearance needed to run a 14" diameter.

thanks to both of you. When I spoke with OJ I was initially excited because he knew the boat off the top of his head, but also made it feel like I was wasting my time.

I went with the 13x15 oj prop and it definitely gets to plane more quickly. I am happy with it. I havent surfed with it yet though. Honestly, no speed loss that i can tell. I was running a 13x17.5. My boat is a little smaller but same concept.

13 in diameter is the largest my boat can take.

I have an acme 1235 for sale for 375$ I think it is 14.25x14.25

the 1235 would actually be a good upgrade after I saw your elevation. I can still hit 40mph in my axis with it and can tow over 4k in ballast with wedge

The diameter sounds too large for his application. I am assuming he can only go up to a 13.5 diameter prop.

Ok sorry didn't know the clearance on that boat assumed it would t be that shallow

Ill verify....but I don't think I can go that big.

One of the reasons my next upgrade will take me to an Axis. I love my boat to death but whenever it's time to change it up I'm going with an Axis for sure.

When you measure, make sure you have about a half inch or so clearance between the prop and the gelcoat. If not, then you can get gelcoat burn and cavitation.
