Plain Lazy or High Tech?

This is what I call the greatest thing in boat accessories. If you board more than four times a week, this is for you. My neck is sore from watching the flats. The rear camera is the way to go! Wide angle shot of your wakeboarder. This is what we in the south call High Tech Redneck! Gotta love it or gotta hate it.

Hey What cam are you using? I wanna install a small cam in my tower box. I know I dont see any IR led's around the cam but how does the immage look @ night?
Details on this setup please.

This is a proto type set up. I used cheep video and camera off ebay. Pyle video screen 11". Which can adjust from 3.5" to 11" if you want or can split screen for two camera's. The camera is a cheep no name brand from china. It's just a reverse back up camera for a car. The bad thing is it has the back up scale 2' and 4' and 10' on the screen. I will be up grading the camera. Then just power and RCA jack's to each other. I will soon figure out to shoot pics and video from the new camera. Oh, the video screen I just screwed to a suction cup drink holder, I did not want to mount to the dash.

That is awesome! I'd love to see how it looks with a rider behind you. Is he in the camera view even on the furthest points outside?

Sorry G, it don't do night time. Always a option for your camera.
Wonder what a rider looks like 90' away.....
get a lot of falls in the flats riding 4 times a week??
cant you just watch the rope tension in the mirror like any good lazy driver |
This will help out more when you have a lazy spotter! I like the direction you are going.
I like to see them stick it. and Everyone loves to see a faceplant every once and a while. Why should the driver miss it?
so whats the total cost, love the idea of having a camera but cant spend the insane amount that they are going for
Can you even see that screen during the day?
amen on the stiff neck! nice job!
we ride 3 days a week, with each of our sets about 1.5 hours long. with no spotter. this would be nice and save our necks lol |
I had a similar issue and just got one of those fishy looking back up mirrors that have a sticky backing. Added it to my mirror and I could see everything.
Yeah John i was just giving ya hell... i dig it for sure. What would be really bad@$$ is a reverse projection onto a tinted section of the windshield. Like a heads up display!
I would love that because the way my bimini has to sit with the tower i can't completely see the rider. but with something like this i could mount the camera on the tower like you did and have an awesome view.
This camera has a 165 degree angle of view. I can see a boat riding beside me and not be a distorted view. I can see the screen fine tinted windshield and bimini top helps. I've got around $130, not much dough. Like I said just playing around with the idea. The boat manufacturers should add too the new touch screen dash systems. This system is worth the $ when your riding into the sun trying to look up at the mirror and your shades just not dark enough. all pro's no con's
good idea... now some manufacturer is going to see this .... realize we as consumers would buy it....and now you just made boat prices higher...haha

where did you find the screen?
With a fisheye like that can you really see a rider at the end of the rope? I know on my truck I use a similar backup camera and it makes stuff in the rear view look much smaller than in the mirror. I question whether you'd be able to see a rider at the end of the rope at all with that setup. Now a cheap video camera off of craigslist, zoomed in a bit, I could see THAT working.
Is this supposed to replace the 3rd person in the boat, i.e. the spotter? Or is this just to view whilst driving?

Screen Was $90 off ebay and is really nice with the functions it has. I can see clearly with no problem. It was just for the driver but you really won't need a spotter now would you.
