Malibu Sportster Steering problem

Hey All

New member, first post

I am having a tough time with the steering on my 2002 Malibu Sportster. It started getting worse since last year and is now pretty bad.
I think it may need to be greased some how but not sure. It is real tough to turn the steering wheel. I know that there are no obstructions or something wrapped around the rudder.
There is some kinda steering box behind the dash that is long and skinny, and then I traced the cable all the way to the mufflers where there is some kinda box mounted to the boat hull.

The question I have is... Has anyone had a similiar problem? How do I go about fixing it or greasing it?
Came across this website just searching for some info.
Any help you can give would be totally appreciated.

Thanx from CT.

There is next to nothing you can grease in that system. A couple fittings at teh rudder box, but once its stiff, its normally too late.

You are going to need a new steering cable. If you are mechanically inclined, order one from Skidim and follow instructions around the internet to install. If not, drop it off at a shop, and have them put a new cable in it.

These cables wear out over time. I'd say if you get 500hrs or 4 or 5 seasons out of a cable, you have done pretty good.

Wow, Thank you for the info
And the boat is almost 10 years old so I guess I did pretty good
