I'm really new to wakeboarding, started March 08, but wanted to see other girls wakeboarding too. (to inspire me!)

Here is one from today!
http://img125.imageshack.us/img125/1723/wakeboardjune31004ah4.jpg

wow! how long have you ladies been riding?

criswb 06-01-2008 10:01 PM

cool pics! I dont have many recent ones, Ill dig up in my other hard drive to find one.

Audrey, its great that you got into it, there's always room for more ladies! One little tip, from looking at your pic I can see that you've got the handle way out. Try to keep it lower (like at hip level) and closer. As if you wanted to make a letter "L" with your arms. It gives you way more control, and although it's hard keeping it in at first, it will be easier to get in the habit of doing it right now when you're first starting!

tcan 06-02-2008 3:00 AM

wow this pic was about my 4th month in (pre acl surgery) but all in all it has been a year now. about 6 months into boarding i snapped my acl in half and had reconstrutive surgery, i am still buildin up physically and mentally to get to my next level! i tell you what though they couldn't keep me out of the water long, 2 weeks after surgery i was riding granted in my imobilzer:o) keep the handle down lead with your hips not your chin you got it!

wakekat15 06-02-2008 4:00 AM

Wayyy ahead of you Tracy.....3 ACLs. Wakeboarding is my crack cocaine...can't give it up!

sexyws6mama 06-02-2008 4:34 AM

thanks ladies for the tips. I know I need to keep that handle at hip level (got to keep telling myself that when I do toe side)!!!

criswb 06-07-2008 6:41 PM

thats a great pic! you're looking better already, your handle is lower than in the last pic you showed! now, try to keep it closer to your body!!

sexyws6mama 06-08-2008 6:12 AM

okay. I am working on the handle, I'm going out in a few hours so that will be my goal!!!!!

06-08-2008 12:09 PM

stand tall at the top of the wake and you'll get more pop.

sexyws6mama 06-08-2008 6:46 PM

I know. I need to stiffen my legs when I come to the wake...working on it

06-08-2008 6:56 PM

when i was learning w2w i didn't realize how bad i was flattening off at the wake and absorbing. it really helped me to video myself so i could see it.

sexyws6mama 06-09-2008 5:08 AM

yeah I did get a little video and boy did it helped...now I see that I wasn't charging enough for the wake and getting off edge right before wake and then I had no pop.......will work on it

Audrey - keep us posted on your progress!

brande 06-11-2008 5:09 AM

This thread has been so helpful! We got hit by tornados on Mother's Day so I haven't been on the water as much as I like. I told DH your tips about holding the handle in close and he is landing EVERYTHING he tries as a result of that. He is so fired up. He also increased his speed to 26 mph. I had been doing 22 but was scared to go up that far so I set it for 24. I was doing alright, still struggling with timing when to push off the wake. It's like a serious motor coordination thing and all of a sudden, it got a ton worse. Found out later, he made the executive decision to increase my speed for me. So here are my pics from yesterday and two that are off topic...my daughter's first time on the raft behind the boat. She will be 2 in one month...

http://s81.photobucket.com/albums/j219/mcdonaldfamily/wakeboarding/

wakekat15 06-11-2008 5:22 AM

Brande,

How long is your rope? 24 to 26 mph is REALLY fast unless you are using an 80'+ long rope. The only people I know that ride that fast are pretty advanced riders using pretty long ropes. The falls are definitely much harder at that speed. Congrats on the progression! Looks like your handle position is really good. Now just work on standing tall at the top of the wake. (Still think 21 to 22 mph is plenty!)

brande 06-11-2008 5:31 AM

Kat, the rope is short, way short. All I can say is DH is a man and more is always better with them sometimes!! I didn't want to increase up fro 22 mph at all. I thought that if I can't time when to push off now, then I really won't do any better at a faster speed. I really appreciate the advice!!

lizrd 06-11-2008 6:16 AM

Brande - looks like you are getting some air! Nice job! Take your time at 22 and you will be just fine. (Your kids sure are cute, too.)

sexyws6mama 06-11-2008 7:29 AM

I think i ride about 18 mph/19 mph

criswb 06-11-2008 10:48 AM

Brande you are doing great! On the first pic you can see that the handle is way out, but on the 2nd one you have it in and you're getting some nice air!

I think 22 is really fast if you're still learning w2ws! It's good that you're rope is short though, cause it will make it easier for you to land on the other side and get used to it. 18/19 is a good speed for starting.

It is hard to get the timing just right for standing tall, sometimes its helpful for me to think of just waiting a second longer than what I think is the top of the wake. And then just push hard with both legs equal.

Remember, there isn't a correct rope length or boat speed, so don't think that you have to ride at 24 with your rope in 80' feet. What is correct is what feels comfortable for you and what you can land the most tricks in and arent afraid to try new things.

aliwake 06-11-2008 3:27 PM

let your hubby know that the faster you go, the smaller the wake gets (it even has the benefit of being true!) so he's not doing himself any favours by going that fast.
You want to be going just fast enough that the wake is firm (ie not all crumbly along the top), and this speed is different depending on your boat, and how much weight it's carrying.
later on, when you're consistently landing your jumps, you may decide to go a bit faster, but going too fast is just going to make things harder for you in the beginning. I agree with Liz - max 22 mph for now!

Nice riding ladies! Here's a couple from a few weeks ago.

I need some pointers on new grabs to mess around with...any ideas??

sexyws6mama 06-13-2008 12:59 PM

i need alot of pointers on grabs in general!! hahaha ;) I can do wake jump with 1 hand and that's about it!!!

wakekat15 06-13-2008 2:07 PM

My personal favorite is a HS method (front hand on heel side edge - pic earlier in post), but with a little stylie twist thrown in. Nose grabs were easiest to learn for me, as all you have to do is pull your front knee up to your chest and it's right there for the grabbing!

(Message edited by wakekat15 on June 13, 2008)

I'm still scared to death to let go of the handle when jumping! I hang on to that thing for dear life!

PS Best grab index for learning the basics:
http://www2.worldpub.net/images/special/WK/grabindex1.swf
