Best Oneill Vest(s)

Ok so I am trying to find out what Oneill vest is the best. I am looking at both non-uscga vest for the boat, and USCGA vest for when I hit the cable. Whats your thoughts on the Oneill vest lineup?

Checkmate :)

benjaminp 03-15-2010 3:19 PM

^Check and mate.

denverd1 03-15-2010 6:29 PM

great vests

wakemitch 03-15-2010 6:38 PM

the whole oneill line up is solid.

my favorite is the gooru. its such a comfortable vest. its been out since 05/06 and now every brand now offers a knock off this year.

Mitch,
Are you still working in a wakeboard shop ?

denverd1 03-15-2010 8:32 PM

agreed on the gooru.

Checkmate (current)
if you can find the old Boost vest, best one over... I found a few on ebay like 2 years ago and bought them so I have a nice stash for a while

I have the 07 Vapor and I love that thing but they don't make it anymore and I outgrew it. The checkmate is real nice but doesn't float as much as the 07 Vapor did. A bit more mobility though

Mitch,

I need to pick up a new vest too before summer. Shoot me your work number please.

aubuchon03 03-16-2010 7:50 AM

thanks guys - sounds like its a solid buy for the comp(s). Has anyone tried any of their USCGA vests such as the Revenge, Law, Assault, or Hybrid? If so whats everyones 2-cents on these?

guido 03-16-2010 10:08 AM

After all these years and having owned almost all of the O'neill non-CGA vests I still think the Outlaw is the best. I like having a buckle so it doesn't slide up on crashes and I'm still a fan of being able to put on a vest without having to feel like you're putting a condom on.

I have both a law and revenge on my boat. I like the look and feel of upper part of the revenge better, but the law is more flexible. Can't see needing a noncga when you have the law.

i just got some backorder stuff from oneill today and the new Revenge Comp is so sick. i almost picked one up, but we also got new colors of the gooru and i had to stick with the gooru. i love it too much.

the tnt is also a sick vest that is over looked. great impact protection and it doesnt absorb any water. also its a side entry but the zipper is in the fron so its not up in your arm pit like a jet pilot or helium. much more comfortable

gunz 03-16-2010 2:55 PM

Mitch,how is the Law?

for a CGA vest i think it by far the most comfortable. its not super think and square like most vests. its designed to fit the body right. also the foam is spliced and stitched in so you dont get drifting foam like most brands get. and the glideskin makes the vest dry really quick and makes it so you never chafe if you are swimming with it on.

aubuchon03 03-17-2010 10:21 AM

Thanks for the info - all good reads.

I am in-between on the Revenge and the Checkmate for Comps. I had the Jetpilot F22 which I thought is very comparable to the Gooru - just didn't care for the "putting on a condom" operating procedure every time. As for USCGA - still fighting between the Law or the price-friendly Assault.

seattle 03-17-2010 10:40 AM

The Law is the best vest I've ever owned. Had the outlaw before that.

BigTEX 03-17-2010 11:05 AM

I've had the TNT for the past two seasons and absolutely love it. It is about as close as you can get to the classic boost vests.

tsteeb 03-18-2010 11:00 AM

Another one for the law, got it for xmas last year and love it, i haven't used a non coast guard vest before, but i cant see how you could get much better than the law.

sippi 03-18-2010 1:39 PM

I have the 2008 Guru and the 2007 Vapor. Love them both. I love how comfortable the guru is and it keeps me up, just not as much as the Vapor. If they would make the Vapor that was about 3" longer, it would be the PERFECT vest IMO. I love how much it floats me and how it feels, just don't like the 80's belly shirt look all the time. and I'm not a big guy, only 5'9"
