I currently have a 205 that throws a good wake for wakeboarding and surfing, plus it has been good for waterskiing and barefooting. Having two young kids I am looking at getting a new v-drive but would like to keep some ski-ability. I was originally thinking an X2 but after seeing the new 14v is an approved tournament hull, I was wondering if anyone had boarded behind it and could compare it to an X2 or X1?

Thanks in adavance

Isn't the x1 a 205v?

Never been in the 14, but used to have a old xstar(X1) we skied behind it a lot in the course. Granted it was no 190, but it was still pretty nice if you didn't have a load of people.

Jay... I think his 205 is a direct drive. But you are right, the X-1 is the same hull.

Jason... I know you don't live in Oregon, but I happened to drive by the local Mastercraft store this weekend and noticed a large sign advertising a new, leftover X-1 for $39,995. They have three 2008's available. Not bad and something to consider.

(Message edited by ixfe on July 13, 2009)

Thanks for the input so far, yes my 205 is a direct drive, just looking for a bit more interior space, that's why I am considering an X1.

ixfe, do you know the name of the dealer? We have a wedding there next week.

you will love the X1! the hull is amazing. empty, that boat is perfect for beginner wakeboarders (nice size, shape, width). start adding weight and it just get's bigger and firmer without losing any of it's shape. it can get super super large once you get up around 3700 lbs of ballast in it. with it empty and and up around 28 mph (not sure what people slalom at?) the wake gets decently small. get to around 33-35 mph and it really starts to disappear (i'm sure it's not as small as a dd though).

i've never been in a 14v or new X2, so i cannot speak to those. if they all spark your interest, i would definitely test driving and boarding behind them all, if you can.

Jason,

I saw the same boat at the mastercraft dealer, Portland Ski Boat Center, 503-892-9965. I think the one out front was black and grey. Nice looking boat.

2 or 1 hate the 14 wake

In college I rode and skied behind a DD 205 in Bako -was fun, but not great. THEN, I rode an 2000 x-star and loaded up its super fun. A good "all day" wake.
I had a buddy buy an 07 X2 and the wake just doesn't compair...soft, always rolls over a bit on one side (I think port but can't remember which side -and yes, no matter how much more weight we put on that side it wouldn't correct itself)...however, the surf wake on the X2 was awesome and MUCH better than the X1 (I'm goofy, so keep that in mind). I haven't skied for years, but I would assume with most certainty, that the X1 wake would be much smaller between 28 and 36 mph than the X2. Also, the X1 is a smaller boat inside and outside than the X2, so it makes sense the ski wake would be smaller.

X1 for wakeboarding/ slalom (if you will)
X2 for surfing
*Never been in the 14, but doesn't sound like you would be happy with the wakeboard wake it puts out.
...IMO

(Message edited by justsan on July 13, 2009)

I like the X2 for size + space...a couple of my buddies have x2's and i'm very impressed with their boats.
it's very roomy and the slalom wake @ 34-36 is fine...as long as you're on edge shorter line free skiing...all good...course skiing...I probably wouldn't say too too much..but you could do it
the x2 is a great...bang for the buck...
The 14 is gorgeous but there is very little storage space in it..especially compared to the 2 plus the rear sundeck of the 2 is nice the 14 dd doesnt have that...I noticed the 14 and my 9 freeboard are much lower than the 2...my 9 still has rear storage and sundeck style...not sure why MC got ride of that with the dd 14..on that note I haven't had a chance to look @ the 14 v close enough to comment...
The 1 is a great boat...but if I had a choice it would be the 2 hands down...

I haven't been in an x14v, but the X1 beats the X2 in terms of wakeboard wake and ski wake- however it's less roomy and not nearly as nice inside. Definitely test drive a x14v and let us know what you think

agreed x2 wake blows.

boarditup 07-13-2009 7:34 PM

I use the X-2 in the course. I have the wake plate at 20-23%. It is no 197, but I can surf with stock ballast and 5 people.

sidekicknicholas 07-13-2009 7:41 PM

x14v no question.

linder 07-13-2009 7:45 PM

I really like the looks of the X14, haven't been in one yet.

joe_crawley 07-13-2009 7:49 PM

"agreed x2 wake blows."

have you ridden a slammed X2? even though I prefer the 1,15 and star to it, it puts out a nice wake

skibum69 07-13-2009 8:07 PM

Again thanks for all the input so far. I'd love to hear from someone who has riden behind a x14v, before I test one out.

882001 07-13-2009 8:09 PM

umm yes. i normally ride behind 2000 san, sport nautique, sunsetter, my old 2001, 04 launch, vlx, and an x1 and all those wakes are better than the x2. imo
