This is funny. I used to ride and fish on Black Lake. Grew up in Tumwater... At this point, I still head up for the hydro races every summer but will not even swim in the lake. By July, it is a gross algae mess and I've heard of sewage problems as well. My 2 cents.

I was just wondering. Dan Perry from this site was coming up and I was trying to find a lake that was convenient for both of us to hook up. Plan fell through though. I think we would've gone to long lake in Lacey. Not that great of a lake but this time of year it would be o.k.

Hey, I have been riding Black Lake for about 10 years. It is a great lake early in the morning but be careful, the lake has a low speed limit until about 10:00 for fishermen. The cops frequent the area and I know from experience. I recommend dropping early from the boat launch because it can become a zoo in the afternoon. In August the angea bloom hits most of the Thurston County Lakes. Try Mason Lake in the late season. If you ride the two far ends of Black Lake you will find calm water almost any time of the day.

For some reason I'm thinking Long Lake in Lacey closes and locks the gates when fishing season ends.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?
