wakejak or gopro

hi guys i was just wondering what you think would be better the wakejak with a playsport ( that i already own and my step dad has a high deff. new video camera) for $260 or a gopro hero with a roll bar mount for $290. Anyone on here try any of theese set ups or ones around this price rage. Any help will be very appreciated thanks

gopro, so much versatility, check craigslist for a used one. I got my HD Gopro for 150 basically new.

gopro. I personally use a Vholdr Contour (similar to a gopro but a bit nicer in my opinion). but if I had to buy anything on a budget, id be a gopro! james said it, versatility!!!

if you want to shoot video from the tower, gopro IS NOT the right camera for you. It has a fisheye lens and anything farther than about 20' looks VERY far away.

I shot this pic of my 12 y/o last week with the gopro on my wakejak... and please note this is a heavily cropped image:

So the gopro on the tower really doesn't give you that great of a shot. On the transom for surfing is a completely different story. Or mounted to you or whatever. It's super versatile at getting shots from all sorts of crazy angles... but you just have to remember that you need to shoot the main subject 20' away or less.

Hey Jon: We manufacture and sell the WJ and would love to help you out if you decide to go in that direction. The Playsport will work great with the WakeJak Camera Mount, especially if you buy the Playsport remote (about $12 online). The Playsport has a zoom lens for wakeboarders, and goes wide enough to shoot wakesurfers from the tower.

The GoPro is an awesome camera. Since the wide angle lens gives views much more like that of the human eye, it really gives you a great sense of movement and action, without appearing jerky. Great for mounting on your wakeboard, on a dirt bike, on a snow board or on your helmet - anytime where the camera is being carried as part of the action. If you took a GoPro and jumped up and down on a trampoline, you would get cool useable footage. With a Playsport, the narrow lens would make it appear way too jerky.

The downside to the wide angle lens is that if you mount it on the boat and shoot wakeboarders, they are going to look much smaller and farther away in the field of vision. So it really depends on how you want to use a camera on your boat. Good luck either way. Rob

I vote GoPro and mount it on the rope! As said before.... Your only limited by your imagination with it.

Ok, I split this thread into two since it was getting off topic. To continue the discussion about mounting a GoPro to the handle, go to http://www.wakeworld.com/forum/showthread.php?t=789200.
