I've read the descriptions on these two boards, but I'm wondering what the difference is in riding and whether it's worth the addtional C-note for the platinum. Anyone out there ride the regular Absolute AND the Platinum. I rode my buddy's '03 Platinum and liked it alot. Very loose and had awesome pop. Just looking for some opin's on this deck. Thanks

How much does a lighter board mean to you?

jarrod 10-30-2003 9:36 AM

Scott, I ride the Plat, it's almost a pound lighter.

aaronlee13 10-30-2003 9:41 AM

I always go for the lighter boards.. the DNA's or PLatiums, funny thing is now i got a biolite, but for the price i couldnt pass it up

bbr 10-30-2003 9:50 AM

I ride the Plat, one word.....sick. I wouldn't ride anything else.

blabel 10-30-2003 10:04 AM

I got the platinum but only because it wasn't that much more for me. I've ridden both and if it came down to a 110 dollar difference I wouldn't get it.

Its a little stiffer and lighter and that's about it.

Weight is not an issue for me. Its all what you get used to in my opinion.

jarrod 10-30-2003 10:06 AM

Unless you changed sponsorers right, Brandon!?

Hey let me ask you, have you ridden the 04? I personally couldn't tell a difference. Just wondering if an above average rider like yourself could tell the difference?

I was kind of looking in the direction of the Absolute myself. I ride the Parks 143 right now. I test rode a Abs Plat last spring. It had great pop, but, evertime I landed it seemed to sink on me. I am now riding at 24.7 again instead of 23.7 of last year, so, I wonder if the shorter Abs compared to the Parks would ride better for me at the higher speed. Then the question if it does, Is the pound really that big of a deal between the regular or Platinum. The most I will throw is a 3 or maybe, if I hit some magical point in my life, a 5. Do I drink one or two less drinks through the day or what? Do you guys really think the Platinum releases different off the wake? I know my parks board is real heavy.

(Message edited by deltahoosier on October 30, 2003)

I did feel that it tracked just a bit better when cutting into the wake, they angled the molded fins out a bit. I don't ride with the center fins so it doesn't track as hard as it would with them, but it teaches you to use the edge rather then the fins to initiate your cuts. The main difference for me was going from the 134 to the 141, which I like much better. Lots more pop, but I am more solid on the landings.
Go with the Plat, the extra weight that you save will help you in the long run.

Thanks Gents. I'm not really sure whether weight is an issue for me. I've been riding a Belmont for 2 years and then I got on my buddy 03 plat and i was getting more air than ever which is why I wanted to switch. So I guess lighter is better afterall.

what about the freedom? is that the same as the absolute 03?
tparider 12-15-2003 2:42 PM

What about the Pure? Is that the same mold as the Absolute?

jarrod 12-15-2003 3:05 PM

Freedom is the same for sure. I think the Pure the same but I'm not positive on that.

deepstructure 12-15-2003 5:37 PM

hmm, you switched from the shorter 134 to the 141 brandon...interesting. anything you liked better about the shorter board, or is it all better with the 141?

i just got both sticks to demo and im starting with the 134 because i ride the 141 belmont and wanted to see if i like going to a shorter board...

shanny 12-15-2003 7:09 PM

guys how does a few centimeters change a board from being a board for someone 140lbs to 200lbs

deepstructure 12-15-2003 7:27 PM

well, it's not just the length that changes, its the overall surface area of the board. adding 7 cms (2.74ins), multiplied by 10 inches (the width at the tip of the absolutes), adds about another 27 square inches of space to the board (more really since the board gets progressively wider towards the center length-wise).

more surface area means better ability to support weight.

jarrod 12-16-2003 7:08 AM

From a Belmont to an Absolute should be like night and day. I have a feeling you'll like it.

tparider 12-16-2003 2:55 PM

Thanks for the comment J-Rod - coincidentally, I ride a Belmont too. I've been checking out the Pure because a couple of places online have it for pretty cheap.

typhoon 12-16-2003 2:58 PM

i love my regular absolute. tyr adrenalinewatersports.com and talk to mike. you can get some great deals there.

bbr 12-16-2003 6:35 PM

Chris, I did like the fact that the board was small, it felt like it was nothing to spin and hop around on it. But the 41 now feels the same, once I got used to it. The bigger board seems a bit slower, but the pop, stability, and the butter landings more than make up for it.

tparider 12-16-2003 8:54 PM

Hey TY -

Does Adrenaline give better deals on the Absolute than their website suggests? $380 is pretty steep compared to other online shops.

typhoon 12-17-2003 6:19 AM

from what i found definately. talk to mike bell there though. tell him what you are lookikng for price wise also. awesome service also.

rodeo 12-18-2003 8:33 PM

Thanks Shawne, got the email and emailed him, but no response yet. Maybe because of the holidays. I am from Texas too so I always rather support my local shops before ebay. I'll try to call him tomorrow. Thanks again!
