I have been painting shrimp and sail boats for the past 3 summers with anti-fouling paint, but I know little about the difference between polyurethane and epoxy paints. I was told polyurethane is best for boats because epoxy will crack since it doesnt flex like fiberglass does. Is this true. I am looking at a boat with an epoxy paint job, and was wondering.

Most boats are painted with LP (linear polyurethane) such as AwlGrip or Imron. And I think your analysis id mostly true...are you certain it's epoxy or is it someone who's not necessarily "in the know" just telling you it's good paint? In fact, I'm not certain there are any "real" marine epoxy paints intended for topsides - there are of course, as I'm sure you're aware, epoxy primers/base coats for blistering maybe try to find the name/brand of the system that was used and post it up??

Good luck
