Just so all of you know, Fry's Electronics has the Sandisk 4gb Extreme II (2) on sale for 54.99 right now, on a one day sale.

Sorry to all of you who don't live near a Fry's!!

eric

richd 04-12-2007 9:13 AM

I think the Sandisk rebate is still on until the EOM and I think that card might be eligible. I just picked up an 8gig Extreme IV online for $129.00 with a $20 rebate off that (if Sandisk actually sends it out haha)

File copying speeds are way up on the new cards about twice as fast as my II's.

getssum 04-12-2007 9:26 AM

Rich that is an AMAZING price on the 8gb Extreme IV, who has it for that cheap?

eric

peter_c 04-12-2007 10:12 AM

The Extreme II is too slow for my camera, but the Extreme IV will work, so hook us up with a link Rich

Got it off Ebay but the guy doesn't have any more listed right now. Keep your eye out for them there, the prices are all over the board lately - watch out for fakes as well. I'm also seeing good deals on the Extreme III's, which are a little cheaper and fine for most bodies. I've got a new 1Dmk3 on order so I figured I'd get the fastest card out there. I like Sandisk cards, they've always worked great and offer good value.

these have to be fakes.

http://cgi.ebay.com/8-GB-SanDisk-Extreme-IV-CompactFlash-8GB-CF-Card_W0QQitemZ110113735685QQihZ001QQcategoryZ50519 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/8-GB-SanDisk-Extreme-IV-CompactFlash-8GB-CF-Card_W0QQitemZ110113735732QQihZ001QQcategoryZ50519 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.com/8-GB-SanDisk-Extreme-IV-CompactFlash-8GB-CF-Card_W0QQitemZ110113735783QQihZ001QQcategoryZ50519 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

by the way, went to fry's and they said the sandisk 4gb extreme II wasn't on sale. where did you see that ad?

I bought an Extreme III off ebay from here and everyone said it will be fake. Well for $50, they did one heck of a job with the fake as the packaging and everything else looks about perfect. It came with the recovery CD too. Look at their feedback. You would think someone would be onto them if they were selling fakes. I do know my camera will shoot sequence and load to disk FAST, so again they built a perfect fake if that is the case.

richd 04-12-2007 11:14 AM

Here's a III 4gb for $50 plus shipping:

http://cgi.ebay.com/4GB-Sandisk-Compact-Flash-CF-Memory-Card-Extreme-III-3_W0QQitemZ300100918611QQihZ020QQcategoryZ18871QQr dZ1QQcmdZViewItem

That is the link I posted above where I got mine from.

Looks like tomdotcard is selling fakes. Tons of negative feedback saying so. This person jaylyn712 has none stating fakes. That does not mean they are not fake though, they may just build a better fake!

There are a bunch of negative feedbacks left for lack of sending product though.I am OK with that as they are overseas and things do get lost. Not enough negative comments other than shipping issues. A few product not as stated, but this one is hilarious "Do NOT buy! Fraudulent seller; "sold" me UPS's free labels, which is illegal!" Uhhh...you paid for them!

People need to be patient when ordering things overseas. Some can take over three weeks to get to you. I am guessing many of the non delivered negative feedbacks are eventually delivered.

(Message edited by peter_c on April 12, 2007)

Rich: Which MarkIII are you getting? The one that just came out? (the N Equivalent) how much?

One thing about 4GB cards.. if you lose one during a shoot, you've lost a LOT of photos. I prefer to stick with 2GB cards... that way if I lose one, I haven't totally screwed the pooch.

-S

richd 04-12-2007 2:56 PM

The new 1D MKIII. Canon hasn't finalized the price yet, it's between $3999 and 4500. I was looking for a good used mkIIN when Canon announced this, I figured WTF.

One other piece of logic re card size, if you have a big enough card in there and you don't need to switch it you won't lose it either. Does that make any sense?

I don't think I've ever shot more then 600 or so shots at one go out, although with 10 fps that may change! (at least until I have to process them all!)

1D2 and 1D2Ns should be available at a decent price when the mk3 starts shipping, I've talked to a lot of guys that are replacing their's.

I paid $3200 for my first 1D used and the minute the 1D2 was announced the price dropped into the low 2's. Bought another one a year later for $1700 now they're around a grand.

<!-quote-!>quote:
if you have a big enough card in there and you don't need to switch it you won't lose it either. Does that make any sense?<!-/quote-!>

what's also nice is being able to use CF AND SD card in the camera at the same time. 4-8 gig CF card + 2-4 gig SD card and you'd be set for the day most of the time. As mentioned, you can't lose what you don't remove from the camera. I was actually gonna pick up an SD card as a backup, but then this little sale came along and I just decided to pick up two more 4 gig cards because it's cheap insurance against running out of card space. I've been on too many day long trips w/ DPC films where sequences were requested @ 8.5fps in RAW. At the end of the day, I'd rather be the reason why my shots didn't turn out rather than my equipment (or lack thereof).

richd 04-13-2007 7:54 AM

8 gb SD card along with 8gb CF card! Thanks Scott I forgot about that feature!

Time to shop for SD cards!

At the rate Canon's going I won't get the body until after the seasons over!

"The Extreme II is too slow for my camera, but the Extreme IV will work, so hook us up with a link Rich"
Blasphemy. Are you mashing the shutter down 24/7 or what.I've personally seen what an ultra 2 can do in an mk2n and there is no way the buffer in your D200 is keeping up with a 1Dmk2N(or ultra 2 card for that matter). I would put money down that the only camera's capable of using the speed of these high speed cards are the 1 series from Canon and 2 series form Nikon. Upload speed is another beast in itself, But pure shooting speed, I find it hard to believe that you NEED extreme 4 cards

richd 04-14-2007 7:51 AM

Actually I bought the EXT IV for it's copying speed, which is about 30% faster then the IIs I have now given my expresss card interface. Not sure if the mkIII needs those speeds although there are early reports that the burst duration is a bit better - over 120 frames (what a joke - the only way I'd ever shoot that many is if I passed out with my finger on the shutter release!)
