Has anyone ever run across a mini-dv player that you can insert into a drive bay or one that could connect via firewire? I've seen the real expensive ones around $1k but all I am looking for is something other than my camera to rewind, play, and transfer to my pc with.

There are none cheaper than that that I know of. In fact I didn't realize you could get one for a grand. Sony makes the best one. JVC has some reasonably priced standalone DV VTRs

Your best bet is to buy a cheap minidv cam ($450) and use that to capture/transfer video. <BR> <BR> - or - <BR> <BR>I found these two JVC miniDV Decks at B&H Photo for under $1k (on sale now...) <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=25 0896&is=REG" target="_blank">http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=25 0896&is=REG</a> <BR> <BR><a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=24 8591&is=REG" target="_blank">http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=24 8591&is=REG</a> <BR> <BR> <BR>(Message edited by dcervenka on February 24, 2004)
