Picked up a FlipHD and a MacBook Pro for Christmas and had to play around with them. Definitely a learning curve to editing with the Mac, but its pretty rad. I was blown away by the quality of the Flip's footage and after some of the recent threads about these things I figured I'd share:

http://vimeo.com/8414979

What program did you use to edit? Did you use the Flip editing program or another one on your computer?

xbones 12-28-2009 8:45 AM

iMovie... I'm going to Final Cut but I'm using iMovie for now to get used to the Mac.

wakereviews 12-28-2009 8:49 AM

wow, i bought one of those for the wife for xmas. Video quality is top notch!

fly135 12-28-2009 9:00 AM

Is the frame rate always that low on HD or did you do that for effect?

wakemania 12-28-2009 9:11 AM

John, the frame rate is 30 fps in 720p if I remember correctly. I figure if they could go to 60 fps it might take some of the jerkiness out of it. Or, maybe some editing software may be able to help this. This is one reason I was looking at the Kodak Zi8. It records at 30 or 60 fps in 720p and 30 fps in 1080p. I just can't make up my mind. I like the waterproof housing for the Flip, but like the 60 fps of the Kodak.

The video quality on Luker's edit looks very good except for the shakiness.

xbones 12-28-2009 10:02 AM

30fps at 720. 60 would help but I'm pretty sure at 30 the jerkiness is unavoidable.

fly135 12-28-2009 11:47 AM

I was only seeing about 5 fps. But it's my computer. I rewatched it in a window instead of full screen and it was much smoother.

Stupid question here. I'm super new into taking video but I did buy the Flip UltraHD, mainly for wakeboarding videos. What do you guys mean when you are talking about the frame rate? I know fps = frames per second, but is that something that you can choose on the editing software you are using, or is that a function on the flip that I haven't found? That is my biggest issue is the shakiness when filming from the boat.

srh00z 12-28-2009 12:20 PM

Quality looks great. Nice song choice.

xbones 12-28-2009 1:49 PM

Frame rate is built in to the camera. Kinda like shutter speed... some can be adjusted I think... but the Flip is fixed at 30fps. I think I've heard of some softwares that can remove some of the shake, but I may be dreaming.

You kinda have to take this camera for what it is... you can't replace a nice HD camera, the Flip is just a nice way to mix things up for very little che$$e

I'm loving mine. Taped a couple Christmas greetings, plugged the Flip into my laptop, typed in friends email adresses....and bam....it's that easy.

I love the sh*t out of mine..had it for 2-3 wks the HD. The software is awesome, quick and easy! its for the boat and making films and learning what your doing wrong on your ride. LOL! Jet

love the cash song. sweet...

(Message edited by andrewjet on January 01, 2010)

Very nice quality. Does imovie come with a MAC? The window's "movie maker" is pretty so-so.

tsteeb 01-01-2010 9:45 PM

imovie does come with a mac GD
I love my flip so easy to use and pretty good quality, can't wait to try my water housing for it.

(Message edited by tsteeb on January 01, 2010)

I can't speak for the HD version, but I got a flip mino for xmas and I love it. I've made videos of dirtbiking, workout videos for my business, snowboarding, and our new years party. The software it comes with allows only for basic editing, but you cn throw together a quick video in 15 minutes. The mino is super small. It's in my pocket all the time.

andrewjet 01-02-2010 9:03 AM

Yeah! I've done family videos, fun videos and work videos too. Are they water proof?? i have the HD/Blk version..waterproof?? Jet

jarrod, I've made work videos too. check them out on facebook under coolmyatticnow. where can I see yours?

(Message edited by andrewjet on January 02, 2010)

Hey Luker,

The new iMovie will remove the shake if you apply the "Stabilization" effect. I was surprised how well it worked.

cwfunrider 01-02-2010 3:48 PM

Jet,

They make a waterproof housing that completely encapsulates the Ultra HD while maintaining all functionality. Supposed to be good down to 30 feet. Search on Amazon, they are like 40 bucks. I got and Ultra HD and the waterproof case for Xmas. Can't wait to use it for things other than messing around the house.

technarider 01-02-2010 9:16 PM

I go the UltraHD and its great... simple easy... prefect

andrewjet 01-02-2010 10:31 PM

xbones 01-04-2010 7:28 AM
