I just got my "cheap" tower speaker setup installed this weekend and things were working great. The place where we ride is normally exceptionally calm with little boat traffic. But once or twice a day a big yacht will come by throwing a 3-4ft wake. Not knowing how else to prevent all that salt water from coming over the bow, I usually go head on and gun it a little, which usually ends up with the boat slamming down hard. When it happened yesterday, the plastic holding that M6 socket and internal M10 bolt in place (basically the speaker casing) ripped out and one of the speakers fell in the water. I dove in as quick as I could and pulled it out and washed it out with fresh water when I got home...we'll see if it works once it dries...

Has this happened to anyone else? What are my chances of survival? Any ideas on how to prevent all of that shock going to the speaker casing?

I forgot to mention...we rode for the rest of the day with one speaker and it seemed like the volume was about the same! I have a Clarion APX 480 running bridged to the two speakers and the gains are maxed out. With one speaker missing, does the amp just push all the power to the one remaining speaker? If so, I guess i could use more amp power...
