Does anyone know of any new private lakes on the southwest side Chicago? I know there is one in Minooka, and heard there is one in Frankfort, but I also heard there are a few more are being dug now, or will soon be started. Does anyone know anything else about this, or is this just rumors?

There are also some old gravel pits off of I-55 south of 80. I sure wouldn't want to be trying to sell lots right now. But maybe you can get them dug real cheap now? The guy that has the site in Minooka <BR>use to post here quite a bit.

I live on the one in Minooka, and I know about the strip mines in Braidwood and Wilmington, and I know about the one in Frankfort, but I've heard of nothing new. Bad time to be digging a lake. There a few local pits, but those are very private. What are you looking for specifically, and maybe that would help. The lake in Frankfort is really shallow. Water's Edge in Wilmington still has available lots, but once again, shallow, and short.

I'm not trying to dig or get a lake dug by any means (I wish I had the resources). My wife is pregnant, and I am seeing my weekend time for riding at the lake slowly disapear. I googled something like "ski lake orland park IL" (I live just west of Orland)and somehow got to a page that said something to the effect of there are new lakes are being dug in Will county. I was hoping someone on here would know something about it, and I was hoping to find a place to ride during the week.

Haven't heard of any new lakes being started at this time.

Its not new, but check out Lincoln Lake in Coal City. there are still a few homes for sale right now and its not too far from I-55. The water is perfect. Butter everyday and so clean you can see down 20' some days. Lincoln Lake is part of the Goose Lake coal strip mines and is the only skiable lake of the Goose Lake chain.

Lincoln Lake has boat restrictions as well, I believe it is under 20ft. and no ballast.

Thanks for the replies. I keep my boat on a lift on Pine Lake in NW Indiana. I have a place to stay out there on the weekends. I am not really looking to change lakes, or my home in Illinois. I was just hoping that one of the lakes I thought was being dug would be close to me, and I'd figure out a way to ride on it occasionally during week nights.
