sounds unbelievable

damn thats crazy. what would keep it confined to florida? Ive never heard of it in Tx...
It's everywhere. About a year ago some fisherman on the TX Coast slipped while stepping off the dock and cut his leg a little, nothing big at all.

He also died from the infection from this flesh-eating bacteria.

I remember reading about it, but can't remember many details on who is most susceptible, etc.
One of my college buddies almost died from the stuff. Of course, he went surfing despite the signs saying the water had unsafe levels of bacteria due to a sewage plant overflow a few miles away.
I just google imaged Necrotizing fasciitis and it looks like a painful death. OMG!
I whitewater kayak in the nastiest crap you can ever imagine.

Last Tuesday, I went to a local river that was at flood stage for the first time in over 6 months. The entire watershed is pig farms....it was fairly nasty....no monster infections yet.

Just build up your immune system by getting in as many lakes and rivers as you can and drink lots of alcohol...you'll be alright.

Ronia...we will be on the lake all night...come on out.
I guess I wont be riding in Black Creek when I visit anymore.
Man that would suck! Good thing we ride in the delta "the cleanest water in the wor... Wait?

No panic people, this bacteria and skin bug is easily curable if diagnosed early and is very unlikely to affect you if you dont have some other weakening condition like diabetes etc. as it says in the article...
I have been in Mission Bay and San Diego Bay (Turd Bay I & II)all of my life. Man have I been lucky!
