Anybody know of the best place to get lead bricks in the Orlando, FL area? I have tried calling 10 different metal recyclers, and none of them sell the bricks. <BR> <BR>There is a lead supplier in Lake Placid that will deliver them (uncoated) for $0.55/lb. to Orlando (or $0.50 if > 2000 lbs.), but I was wondering if there are cheaper options? Leadheadz sells through Performance Ski and Surf, but they want $1.70/lb! <BR> <BR>I would rather not do the tire weights, since I do not want to melt them down myself. Any other suggestions? Anyone interested in a group buy from the Lake Placid lead supplier to see if we can get it down to $0.40?

put the lead tire weights in a plastic bottle (like a laundry bottle.) this will eliminate the need to melt them down. add sand or water to fill in the gaps for maximum density of your cheap weights. you could also put them in tupperware containers and glue them shut or whatever. this will give more size flexibility.

Did someone say rust? Lead will not rust. does oxydize slightly though, and coating it will encapsulate it against exposure for heath reasons. shipping seems like your worst enemy in shopping too far from home.

I am not in FL, but I priced lead shot from a local gun shop for $16 for a 25 # bag. I am thinking about getting some of that and then putting it in duffle bags.

I use lead shot in 25# bags and like it because it will take on the shape of wherever you are trying to put it, under the engine, under seat cushion voids, anywhere. $16 seems like a good price, I paid close to 1$ per pound when I bought mine from a metals supply house.
