What are your goals this year? Did you learn the tricks you wanted to this past year?

This is year 2 for me, and I hit all my goals and then some last year.(I set the bar too low.)This year I shall set it higher. If I make half of this list, I will be ecstatic.

I want to learn 3 toeside inverts, a hoochie glide, 2 540's and a 720.

jonb 02-08-2004 12:57 PM

good luck with your list, if you get all of those you will be a pretty solid rider.

puckinshat 02-08-2004 1:09 PM

Just curious, what were your goals for last year?

tparider 02-08-2004 1:48 PM

I'd like to have 3's from both sides and 1 invert from each side... oh yeah, and a raley.

xtremebordgurl 02-08-2004 2:08 PM

being the super novice rider that I am, my goals for wakeboarding are at least one handle pass spin and one invert at the least.

On the skate I'd like to learn shuv-its and make them consistent and learn how to go wake2wake w/ grabs.

I think these are pretty reasonable because I can ride everyday now at the cable park and I'm trying to work with Dean Lavelle at least once a week. Right now I'm working on my form, Dean is an awesome coach he's got me working on the very very basics of proper form. TS Wake jumps and keeping the handle in are two short term goals I'd like to conquer within a week or two. I think more of that is gonna be strength conditioning but we'll see what happens. I can get the handle in but its hard for me to keep it there. We'll see what happens.

shiftywakeskate 02-08-2004 6:46 PM

for the past couple years i havent been able to do much cause of my boat(17ft bayliner) but now im getting a new boat so im trying to be able to do an invert and hoochieglide

cam_warner 02-08-2004 7:48 PM

Last year I wanted to be sticking scarecrows and 540's, but that got cut short because of reconstructive shoulder surger in mid-August....So this year I think I'm hoping that I'll be landing crows, 5's and maybe a tantrum to blind

forwaken 02-08-2004 11:02 PM

With risk of sounding pathetic
Mike- You were the one that posted a video of yourself at the end of your first season right? If so I gotta hand it to you dude, you kick ass. I picked up a wakeboard along with my VLX for the first time in April (first boardsport period) so I am coming up on my first year as well (continuing to ride) and I am no where near the level of riding that you are on.

I can't use the excuse that I didn't ride a lot because in my crew there are two SAN's and my VLX and we have and continue to ride 2-4 times a week. And I can't say that I don't ride to progress because both of my riding buddies rip and both push me (all in a good way) to be better at the same time we all like to have fun.

Maybe I just suck, but the only real trick I can do is a heelside w2w 180 possibly grabbed next time out and various stupid, but fun stuff such as lipslide, powerslide, ollie 180's, grabs blah blah. Ohh and I gues I could note good consistent good pop heelside and getting there on my toeside. I have come "real close" to landing a 3, but have never rode it out.

I gotta say, you make me feel like crap man! . But that's good for you!

My modest goals this year I guess would be to learn 1-2 inverts, a toeside 180 and from there take it to a 3, definitley a heelside 3. And for good measure, a backside heelside 180 and a heelside 180 to blind, both because they look so damn sexy and the rest of my crew is really dialing in the blind a backside stuff right now.

And BTW congrats to Squid (WW name) for finally landing a backside 3 today and Gherk (also WW name) for dialing in (not just landing 1 or 2) toeside 360 to blind and a heelside 3 with a handle pass!

(Message edited by forwaken on February 08, 2004)

(Message edited by forwaken on February 08, 2004)

Man that was long, I guess I really ranted, but my "slow" progress up until just latley had really been bugging me so I guess this thread just struck a nerve!

Good thread Mike!

richd 02-09-2004 5:33 AM

Chad:

The fun part is learning that stuff, so you're going to be having more fun than everyone else! I'm going to start riding again this summer. You will feel better then!

buckshot 02-09-2004 7:56 AM

I guess the #1 goal for this year is to spend more time behind the boat than behind the desk. Slim chance of that happening unless I hit the lottery, so I'll have to set my sights a little lower like landing those backrolls and tantrums finally. BS 180 would rank right up there as well.

deiselgrover 02-09-2004 8:22 AM

I hear you Mr. G! My goal this summer is just to spend every chance I get behind the boat. I just rented my houseboat for Dalehollow so I know I will at least get Aug 6-13 for some non stop boarding.

Since I am a novice my goals are to get TS & HS 180s down solid, get comfortable riding switch. Work on grabs, and hopefully get to where I can at least try an invert. Also a 3 would be a reach goal. (I actually tried one last year while I was at Dalehollow and nearly landed it. I had never tried one and was just feeling it right then, all geeked up from the 1st day on my vacation. Sadly that run ended with a busted binding and no more wakeboarding for the rest of the week!!!!)

My other goal is to learn to skate. I don't even have on yet, but plan on picking one up before the season starts. I would like to learn to do some ollies and maybe kickflip. That is probably a reach though. Gotta set your goals somewhere tho I guess!

twakess 02-09-2004 8:32 AM

My goal is to have fun and watch my friends progress. Oh and maybe learn a few new tricks. I know one thing its gonna be one fun summer in my book.

dirwoody 02-09-2004 9:46 AM

My first goal for the year is to get my knee back in shape so i can ride again . . .
Then ride as much as i can, new tricks are always fun buti'd rather be consistent and solid in all aspects of my riding instead of being able to throw 3's, 7's and multiple inverts, but can't stand 5 seconds switch. so i'm gonna continue on my blind 180's, get my 3's consistent and hopefully go through the progression to a tantrum to blind and other inverts. Depending on the consistency of the 3's maybe a 5 . . . still all depends on the knee

lizrd 02-09-2004 10:36 AM

Mike - I also have to say that you rock at riding and perhaps more importantly you help coach everyone else into bettering themselves.

Chad- don't feel bad! I have been riding a year and I am just about at the same level you are at. Last year my big accomplishment was going W2W and throwing just a few grabs. The point is we are all having a blast and enjoying time on the water with friends.

This year I feel is going to be my break-through year. My girly goals include perfecting the pop, going W2W all four ways, hitting more solid, tweaked grabs, two inverts (I'm thinkin' tantrum and backroll) and a handle pass 3. It's hard to predict if this is feasible or not but it sure will be fun trying. My pride tells me to get on the water and get it done since I'm 31 and I got beat soundly in a local contest by an 11 year old girl - I OWN that girl this year!

veganx 02-09-2004 11:14 AM

My goals are simple...ride more than I did last year, and have fun.

typhoon 02-09-2004 11:15 AM

i second that bird. my riding has regressed terribly lately due to lack of water time.

forwaken 02-09-2004 1:11 PM

Squid-
Yeah, I'll have fun trying to learn new tricks and your going to have fun watching Paul and I kill ourselves, while you put your feet up. I can't wait!!!!!!!

twakess 02-09-2004 2:27 PM

Chad, just keep the boat stocked with hot chicks and the beer flowing and I will be otay.

wakeboard4568 02-09-2004 2:32 PM

Last year I wanted to learn grabs and spins...this year i want to learn a bunch more but the main thing is a backroll. I dont cause how hard it is. Im a big girl now. lol

bryce_04 02-09-2004 2:51 PM

TS 360
Tantrum
landing blind

timmy 02-09-2004 3:50 PM

my goal is to have fun and not get hurt like last summer.

stephan 02-09-2004 4:29 PM

Last year I made more progress in a year than ever before. I finally figured out spinning. 3's used to be hard now I grab every one and have gotten TS 5's pretty consistent and have landed a few HS 5's (a few grabbed as well).

My to do list includes, off axis spins(3's & 5's), HS Front Flip(broke my ankle last time I tried)& (this may seem random) HS tweaked Method to backside 180. I's also like to stick my 5 off the double up.

upupnaway 02-09-2004 5:48 PM

Sorry, have not had a chance to answer.....

I got my boat in late 2002, but did not get to ride till 6-03. (I did learn to ride in 02 behind a waverunner)
Last year my goals were 180's, a tantrum, and grabs. I picked up fs and bs heelside 360's, grabbed 180's fs, bs, hs, and ts. I hit a backroll at the end of the year, and they still scare me for some reason.
My lady is awesome, she spends hours on end coming back to pick me up so I can try again. That is what I attribute my success to.

Thanks for the props chad! I have a lot I want to learn, But that is what makes it so fun. To tell the truth, I was more excited landing my first grab than I was on my first invert. I suspect I will feel that same pump when I pull off a raley

upupnaway 02-09-2004 5:52 PM

Liz, you made me feel all warm and fuzzy with your post...
You gotta push me hard this year...Or little Jeff will pass me up!

fng03 02-09-2004 6:14 PM

The first time I ever got on a board was August 11 of last year, and I think I went out about ten times before the end of the season. After the first time out, I pretty much set last season's goal at just trying not to die - which I did accomplish...Yay!

Thanks to lots of patience, encouragement, and coaching from Mike and Lizrd, I did manage to improve my form a bit, cross the wake hs & ts, and, on one of the last runs of the year, I caught my first air - 4"! I ROCK!!

If I had to set a goal for the next year, I would have to say that I would like to be able to comfortably be able to pull off at least 1 W2W on a regular basis. This is a modest goal, but I am an out of shape 33 year old guy, so I can't get too ahead of myself!

I would like to say, though, that with Mike as my personal trainer, the only thing that can hold me back is myself.

derrick_lenz 02-09-2004 11:13 PM

my goals are as follows for the 2004 season.

1. rehab my knee back to 100% health

new tricks i want to learn

cable: switch ralley, switch krypt, switch sbend and vulcan. get consistent fronts. learn a roll to blind, blind 313, and start trying to grab things more.

boat: get hs 3, scarecrow, and indy front roll consistent, learn a tantrum, ts 3 and maybe a blind spin or two.

sliders/kickers: get frontside boardslides more consistent, throw a spin on the top bar of an a frame, land a switch 7 of kicker.

indywakechica 02-10-2004 9:05 AM

Last year was my first year that I really got into wakeboarding so yeah I suck My goal for last year was to get w2w which I did but only once. So my first goal for this year is to get consistent with that. Then hmmm I guess after that some 180s would be nice. Mostly just want to get out there as much as I can and just go with the flow as far as progression goes. Dieselgrover I'm going to be down in Dale the same time you are...what a coincidence! ;)

drewsmug 02-10-2004 5:10 PM

I just want to get a unique style, and being able to tweak out all my current tricks would be nice
