I have a 1990 Supra Sunsetter and the back of the boat angles toward the back of the boat. This combined with the fact that the swim platform is relatively short makes it a pain to get out of the water. The platform now has what I am going to call "quick disconnect" brackets on it. I am thinking about making my own platform out of some sort of material and making it a little longer. Any ideas?

What about making it out of a couple pieces of 3/4 or 1/2 inch OSB or other plywood glued/screwed together? Then have it linexed. You could make it pretty much any shape or size you wanted then. You would also be able to use your current bracket.

I made one out of teak, that I got off of ebay.

There have been a couple good threads on this, try a search.

I did one early last spring out of regular plywood. I first put on a couple coats of fiberglass resin then put on the cheap bed liner in a can that you put on with a roller. After one season not a single problem, just as good and solid as any other one I have been on. The only thing I need to do is touch up some spots on the back edge where you slide off the platform with your board. I did a write up on this before also.

Dang, nice work Nick. That platform looks great.

I made a platform for my 91 SunSport. I used a single sheet of 1-1/8 plywood and covered it with several coats of epoxy resin. Then I painted it and added gator grip to the top.

(Message edited by maxx_wake on February 13, 2010)

My dad had a big stack of the stuff that was left over from one of his construction jobs. It was tongue and groove so I think they were using it for some kind of sub floor.

Unfortunately I think the old 91 SunSport probably isnt as nice now as it looks in those pictures. I sold it about a year and a half ago to a couple of guys and last I heard they ran it aground and needed a crane to get it out. Anyways, I am now on SunSport number three. She is a 97 with fuel injection and no wood construction which were the main reasons I upgraded. Of course I had to add the obligatory upgrades like tower, ballast system and perfect pass. :P

(Message edited by maxx_wake on February 14, 2010)

I built one out of cedar for my old Nautique. I don't have any photos but it was pretty solid, the cedar held up well in the water.
