Maybe some of you have experience in this area. <BR> <BR>I have an 03 Mastercraft X7 with the 5.7 F.I. motor. I ran out of gas the other day. Refueled it but now it won't start. It has fresh fuel, it cranks but won't turn over. You may have to prime the pump some how or I believe those units are notorious for burning out the pump when you run out of gas. The crappy part about that is that the whole sender/pump is all one unit and like $500. It is possible to pull out the sender/pump unit and just replace the actual pump which is less than $50 at a parts store.

Troubleshooting: <BR> <BR>Pull off fuel filter and replace. <BR> <BR>While fuel filter is off, verify there is fuel being pumped by having someone turn the motor over. Be sure to have something to catch the fuel - it is going to shoot out if there is pressure. The pump is cooled by the fuel. Run it out of fuel and it will overheat. <BR> <BR>There may be water in the system now, it may take some cranking to get it to turn over and run. Most fuel tanks have water on the bottom. Most motors do not run well on water. <BR> <BR>If

Running out of fuel is often the kiss of death in both boats and cars for fuel pumps. Usually it doesn't die right away, but still i'd say there's a good chance its toast.

It's an MC. The fuel pump is dead. End of story. <BR> <BR>You can replace with an aftermarket pump for about $100 IIRC. I know MCs is about $500

Not saying you do. There are lots of threads on that site on doing an install too. FWIW, I ran out of fuel 2 years ago and over 200 hours ago and my fuel pump is still working.

Wow, chaser. You're def the exception!

Cycle the key several times on and off. This will engergize the electric fuel pump. Since you ran out of fuel the system may not be primed with gas. After about 10 on and off cycles for about 8 to 10 seconds each then try start. If it still does not start then find out if you are getting fuel to the fuel rails. check the shrader valve on the fuel rail to see if your getting pressure to rails

Running one out of gas should not burn up a pump. The pump sucks a gulp of air, the fuel pressure drops, engine stalls, ECM no longer sees ignition input from the engine, ECM de energizes FPR, pump shuts off......'bout a 10 second time frame.

Confirmed it was a bad pump. Got a replacement fuel pump from some crosslisting of part numbers proveded by all of you. Thanks for you input and links to nice step by steps. Test ran for one hour. So far so good. See you out there! <BR>frank

In some cases, the boat never ran out, just got down to 1/4 tank. dead pump, same deal. MC has known for a while... I think they redesigned in '05... <BR> <BR>Frank - at least we saved ya some coin!
