I don't have any experience wearing comp vest and I've been wanting to get one but I'm not sure if any would be floaty enough for my standards. I just want it to be able to float me at the surface if my lungs were expelled of air, not having to float me face up or anything like that.

Oh and I'm sure body build is an important factor, I'm about 155 lbs, and would wear an adult medium size.

Jetpilot A-10 is okay.

A tried and true vest that seems to always remain popular just for the reasons state is the Oneill Outlaw Vest. It seems to fit the bill for alot of customers...especially with your build....but know that there is never a guarantee on keeping you floating....but get one..try it out...jump in a pool, off the diving board...see how it works.
Just my 2 cents.

Bill @ Performance

The Jet Pilot Baller is a floaty comp vest.

azwakekid 10-12-2008 7:59 PM

i agree with the ballers vest. it works great for me

ponder86 10-12-2008 7:59 PM

Any of Helium's new Balance Series vest have 12 out of the 15 lbs of flotation, they're the closest to being CGA of comp. vests

xcel mack vest is pretty buoyant

tsteeb 10-12-2008 8:26 PM

make sure you blow all the air out of your lungs then see if it floats you still. you will be surprised by how much you sink.

Jet Pilot Falcon Floats me really well.

troylaw 10-13-2008 7:20 AM

I USE THE HELIUM JOSH SANDERS, 230 AND IT FLOATS ME PRETTY GOOD.

verruckt32 10-15-2008 10:48 AM

I have an O'Neil Vapor Comp and it floats me pretty well... and it's nice and comfy!

denverd1 10-15-2008 11:11 AM

LOUD NOISES!!!!

baller.

snowman89 10-15-2008 11:45 AM

Is the baller the same as the og comp? And for those of you who said the baller does it float you well enough to keep you at the surface with no air in your lungs?

brianmiller 10-15-2008 12:20 PM

I use the jetpilot A10. It has side slots that are open and I added more foam from a cheep orange vest. That made just enough difference for me. (have to give credit to UncleJessie for the idea)

I used the O'Neill Vapor Comp vest for a while and it is an awesome vest, but they discontinued it for '08 and came out with the Checkmate..comfy but not as bouyant..I went with a Cascade Helium and luv it..
my $.02

I'm looking to put a new vest on my X-mas list and didn't want to start a new thread. My boat is black and red, so matching colors would be nice but not necessary. However I happened to come across and heard good reviews about the Oneil Revenge. Any comments on that or others? I ride in CA and want a USCG approved vest.

jarrod 11-06-2008 9:48 AM

CWB Faction vest.....very similar to the Oneill Outlaw

pdxWAKE.com 11-06-2008 10:37 AM

I have been real happy with the Liquid Force Henshaw. It totally keeps you floating unlike most of the other vest listed above. It is not CG Approved, but definitely more float than most non CGA vests.
Not sure if they make it anymore, as I don't see it on their site. Mine was from 08' I believe... Maybe 07'.

soonerwake85 11-06-2008 10:55 AM

I second the Oneill Vapor, its a great comfy vest that floats better than any other comp vest ive tried. Since it was discontinued you could probably find one cheap online.

onthewatermo 11-06-2008 11:06 AM

Third the Oneill Vapor and I tested it head-2-head (result top of pool vs. bottom of pool) with the A-10...I don't hit rails, but I've heard the Vapor is takes a beating as well whilst keeping your innards protected.

ndh2o 11-06-2008 11:12 AM

Brett, check your PM's.

silvermustang35 11-06-2008 11:21 AM

I just bought a Liquid Force Impact vest for 30....Hopefully it will float me decently...anybody ever used the Impact vest?

brettw 11-06-2008 12:49 PM

Too bad I'm not Xl or XXL, cuz they have the o'neill vapor on ebay for $33.95 in those sizes.

I didn't get a PM, Cary - at least not in an email. I don't know how to check a 'PM box' on this board if that's even possible.

joshugan 11-06-2008 7:24 PM

A-10 does not have enough flotation for a hamster. Don't waste your money on it.

A rider died wearing one after being knocked out.

silvermustang35 11-07-2008 6:56 AM

Bump for the LF Impact question?
Anybody used one of them?
Didnt mean to Hijack...just in the same situation as Darren

11-07-2008 7:23 AM

the outlaw is a great vest

lovin_the_wake 11-07-2008 7:39 AM

My jetpilot core is a cga vest and it's as thin as my comp vest and floats hella good and it's CGA

dyost 11-07-2008 8:12 AM

Second Diggs on the LF Henshaw Comp. Way better than most comp vests I've tried. I picked up an 07 for $29 from Evogear.com
