Hates new Eccoboost Feezy
 

I finally got my Eccoboost, there's been a run on these since they came out so I had to wait a little bit and settle some too. I couldn't get navigation as its just about an impossible combination right now and I also didn't get the Sony stereo so no bass :) Other than that its pretty much the way I'd order it. I really love the gun metal gray 20's on these guys and think its gonna look killer pulling the boat. I'm coming out of a 5.0 that towed really well so I'm excited to see the difference with the 3.5. Incidentally, for the past five days I have been driving a 6.2 F150 and managed 17 MPG over those days, which to me is really impressive but it makes me more excited to see what I can get with the 3.5

Hate - how many mpg's is it supposed to get? When I got my 2010 F150 in February they asked if I wanted to order the eco but i didn't want to wait. Looks really good with the rims

Because I have way to much money :) just kidding this is my new free one, I only keep them for six months.

I'll get some real world numbers for day to day driving over the next week or so and next week I'm going on a trip with the boat so I can see how it does towing. Its suppose to get 21 on the freeway which is most of my driving so I expect to be no less than 18.5-19 as I said I was able to average 17 with the 6.2 thats rated at 16 on the freeway.

MSRP on this one was $45,145 and thats with no nav!!! Damn things are getting so expensive. You could pick one up depending no where you live for upper $30's though. They have been selling real well so Ford hasn't upped the rebates much.

I'm getting 11-12mpg towing a VLX on flad ground and around 14mpg in the city and 18mpg on the freeway. And that's driving like an old lady. If I get on it the mileage is alot worse. I love the truck but was expecting a little better mileage. Can't even tell the boat is behind the truck but the eco sucks gas towing. I heard that the 5.0 gets better mileage than the eco but you can't beat the eco for towing.

Wonder how the 6.2L would stack up to the eco for towing, have to be close and sounds like the mileage wouldn't be to far off?

I can already tell you that I'm buying one of those trucks. I think I'll wait another year or two for the demand to chill a bit.

Hate... Get that order sheet ready. I want mine loaded. $45k's a bargain compared to what I paid for my F250 with half the goodies the new truck has.

I'm getting an avg of 18.5 with mine so far and under 3k miles.

Cause I don't know if the company will keep getting trucks in 2 years with gas prices the way they are. Just curious on price. They are going up, but damn- that's a sweet looking truck!
I've heard the torque curve is very good about 2K rpm. Perfect for towing.

Just went and looked at some F250's at lunch...F150 seems like a steal compared to them!

I went from an 06 F350 crew cab diesel to a 2010 F150 crew cab. The 150 is much roomier. I do notice that towing the 150 is "pushed around" more by the boat than the 350, which is to be expected.

If I needed a new truck. I could deal with the pushing around feature the smaller F150 has compared to my F250. All the new comforts and that ECO-Boost just seems to make sense. Especially with the new longer bed crew option. I want to buy my wife a Flex AWD with the Eco-boost. I could tow my V215 with that. 4500lbs tow rating.

I'm going to get slammed for this one, but I've been thinking about this Ford EcoBoost thing for quite a while. I notice the 4x2 EcoBoost truck only gets 22mpg highway. No doubt the horsepower/torque numbers are impressive and towing capability is great, but what I don't get is how far the numbers haven't come on mpg as far as this "EcoBoost" goes. I went to www.fueleconomy.gov and checked out 4x2 specs on the 2001 F150 extended cab with the 5.4 V8. 18mpg highway, 7500lb towing capacity. If someone commutes 40 miles per day: at 18mpg they burn 2.2 gal, at 22mpg they burn 1.8 gal. You save less than half a gallon of fuel. At $3.50 a gallon, that's a $1.75 gas savings per day. I figure 8-10mpg towing on the 5.4 V8 and the guy above says he gets 11-12mpg with the 3.5 EcoBoost, so about the same scenario.

It's pretty apparent that Ford is benefiting greatly from this "green" marketing scheme. Not that I could even swing the cost of one of these new trucks, but I just don't see the point in buying one for the "gas savings" argument. You obviously get much more power/torque vs. the older tow vehicles, but the improvement in fuel mileage just isn't there for me. Unless I discover a gold mine in my backyard, win the lottery or something else crazy $ wise happens - I'll keep a good used tow vehicle and spend the money I would have spent on a new truck payment on my boat.

I was expecting a little better mileage as well but there really is no comparison to the SIlverado I had. It is an awsome truck and the power and towing capabilty is incrediable

I think the older mpg #'s were more exaggerated. I've had (company trucks) at least 10 5.4L engines in various F150s and F250s 4x2 and 4x4 and they were all about the same. Averaged 11-13mog overall. Pretty abysmal fuel mileage, low altitude or high alt.
I now have a 2011 F150 5.0 4x2 and it's averaging an honest 17mpg mixed driving, 1mpg with more jobsite/idle time and straight 20 mpg on highways @ 70mph.
The older trucks always faster highway miles say 80mph avg, but only were int he 12mpg range.
I've never been a Ford fan, but if this 5.0/6speed auto hold together, they are the ones to beat in the half ton market right now. Lot of power too, unlike the anemic 5.4.
I think Ford's reported fuel economy is much closer to the truth than in the past.

I know everyone's results vary due to driving habits, altitude, etc. and 18mpg may not be true in all those 5.4 trucks, but thats what fueleconomy.gov did - during the "Cash for Clunkers" thing they revamped all the old window stickers estimates because they were bogus. They still may be a stretch on that site, but way more accurate than the past estimates from stickers off the lot.

The way automakers rate fuel economy changed and got tougher a few years ago. Not to mention you are talking about a bigger truck that makes over 100 HP and TQ more than that 01 of yore. I've got all of 50 miles on mine and my readout says 18.6 but I really won't know anything until I get it broken in which is 1500-2k ish before they start returning the fuel economy they claim.

I sold my 2001 F-150 SCREW 4x4 5.4l 3.55 with 145,000 miles 4 months ago. Got it with 30,000 miles and 2 years old. I towed my boat all the time. I averaged 13-14 around town and 8-10 towing. I only sold it after I took delivery of my brand new (ordered in Jan.) Ecoboost F-150 SCREW 4x4 3.73. 6.5' Bed I towed our boat 2,800 miles in one week on vacation this summer and averaged 12 in the flat lands and 10 in the hills. Boat and gear weighs in at about 6,000 lbs. Here in Houston, I get about 17-19mpg around town-partly city parlty highway.

Sweet truck at the top of my list. Hope when I have to buy fairly soon that they put the Eboost in an Expedition. I hear the Explorer to get the 3.5 boost next year.

Wheel size and tires play a part in the mpg numbers, and as much as I want 20-22" on a truck, the 18" gunmetal were pretty nice looking on the lot.

Personally it's less about the mileage for me, and more about the torque curve and the fact that turbos perform better at high altitude.

For going to/from the mountains nothing I've owned has been able to touch my turbos. Both my turbo diesel F250 and my turbo Audi are monsters going up the hill. Other vehicles will do it if you keep them spinning enough rpm's, but I hate that.

I'm hoping the Ecoboost will solve that. Good grunt and a ride that's not a 3/4 ton. I'm hoping my prayers will be answered. Now I just gotta get my wife knocked up so I can justify a 3rd car. :D

Joe B, the Explorer is getting an Eccoboost however it is not the 3.5 but rather the 2.0 four cylinder that delivers 240 HP and 270 TQ while still yielding 20/28 MPG. It will also be going in the Edge. Its never been conformed but I'm certain they'll be offering the Eccoboost in the Expedition and the 5.0 too.

I reset the fuel economy guage today when I left for work and managed over 22 MPG on the 25 mile trip in.

Hate, when is the Explorer due out? We're going to have to replace my fiance's Xterra in the next year or so and she won't get out of an SUV and I'd like to get something that will get decent gas mileage. I assume the Ecoboost Explorer will save me a lot of cash of a Touareg or Audi TDI!

Ecoboost Explorers are our. A dealer near me has a a few. MPG's are listed at 20 city and 28 highway.

Nick... The Audi TDI is cool, but definitely look at the 2.0T, also. Granted mine is in a A4, but it's getting easily into the high 30's on the freeway. The MPG is amazing. I got into a customers car yesterday and the average MPG showed 38.8. Granted, I'm sure they do a lot o freeway driving. I'm sure the Q5 with the 2.0 will manage low 30's. Should be and awesome SUV. I've yet to see the extra expense of the diesel pay off over the little turbo gasser.

I got the ECO SCREW 4x2 to replace my tried and true 02 Yukon. Really happy, tows great and I think at around 11 MPG towing it's not too bad. Really don't care too much about that since I do not tow everyday. Only have 2K miles on it and I expect the real world milage will happen only after 10k miles. This engine is built hell for stout with 6 bolt cross bolted main bearings, forged steel CS etc. Hope the truck holds up well over time.

Someone said the mileage from 02 to 11 has not increased by much like he expected. Maybe not but the EPA changed the mileage rules a few years back to more real world. So what used to be 15 in town became like 14 or even 13. Plus the ECO is not just for mileage, it is for performance.

I'm just real happy with that down low torque, just what we need in our trucks that actually tow.

Evan, I like the Q5 a lot as well. Good to know about the Turbos. I have a feeling replacing her car is going to be a long ordeal. There are a lot of great mid size SUVs out there right now.

i'd like to pull my boat with an eco boost just to feel what it is like to have that much torque at 2500 rpm. my hemi pulling my 08 mobius lsv kicks into a lower gear to maintain 65-70 mph on moderate hills, i dont thnk at 4,000 rpm it makes the torque that the eco boost does at 2,500. if i have it in "tow/haul" mode it will run 1900 rpm at 70 mph but the slightest hill kicks it out of OD. if i run it in "OD Off" in runs about 2,600 at 70 mph and only kicks out of gear on moderate to steep hills. and it gets 9-10 mpg pulling. 19 fwy unloaded (fuel mileage is according to the computer thing on board)
