hey i will be taking my boat to europe next summer and was wondering on your opinions on a vehicle to tow an xstar with over there. we dont have the same big american trucks over here so i was looking at these

1. VW toureg
2. BMW X5
3. Merc ML
4. Misubishi L200

i think the VW or BMW will be the best but they are the most expensive! all have aleast a 3 Litre diesel version, except the L200 which i have only seen with 2.5 liter is that powerfull enough to tow an xstar?? because i would like to spend less if i can!!!

bennygoodx 12-15-2006 2:51 PM

VW Toureag with the diesel motor will blow all of those...

gti2lo 12-15-2006 3:05 PM

VW Touareg, is bulit like a truck... the 6 cly TDI is an animal of a motor!!

peter_c 12-15-2006 3:48 PM

Touareg diesel all the way! None of the others come close.

abundiga909 12-15-2006 3:55 PM

Audi Q7... its basically a stretched out Touareg, and i think it has the TDI in europe already...

doubleup_dan 12-15-2006 7:02 PM

i would like the Q7 but i am gunna get a used one and the Q7 is too new and is really expensive!

toureg was my first choice too

can you tow an xstar comfortably with the L200?

ncbschzzt 12-15-2006 11:39 PM

VW will tow the best if you keep it from breaking all the time like mine.

ncbschzzt 12-15-2006 11:42 PM

vw tows the best, but breaks all the time and is exspensive to fix. If you get the vw, dont get a 04! go with at least a late model 05...

xsmini 12-16-2006 2:39 PM

Touraeg fo' sure

Good luck finding a V10TDi though

dbjts 12-16-2006 3:29 PM

The Merc and the BMW are both rated at substantially less than 3000KG for towing.
The VW and the Mitsubishi are both rated at 3500KG but then so are virtually all of the Land Rover stable past and present. If your working to a budget an old Disco should feature high on your list, there are loads to choose from and they are cheap as chips.

ncbschzzt 12-16-2006 3:48 PM

hes in Europe, no problem finding a diesel. Maybe not a v10, but never the less a diesel.}

gobigorgohome 12-16-2006 3:55 PM

How about an Isuzu Trooper 2.8Tdi? The engine is bullet proof and has plenty of grunt. Quite a few of them around. Quality-wise it'll be a better bet than an older Land Rover/Disco/Range Rover.

epic_peachland 12-16-2006 5:51 PM

Mercedes G Class with a Diesel. No question about it well or a Toureg diesel

ncbschzzt 12-16-2006 6:13 PM

Eruo pullers just are not the same, good ride out of that vw though. And can off road with the best of them....

jsxstar 12-17-2006 11:02 PM

v10 tdi toureg or audi q7

riverside 12-17-2006 11:26 PM

or a landcruiser or a Pajero or a Patrol there are lots of 4x4 that all can tow up to 3500 kilo and some above above.

dbjts 12-17-2006 11:43 PM

The V10 Touareg might have 550 foot pounds of torque but its still only rated to tow 3500KG, and in the UK its over $40,000 more than the base model Diesel. And for my money it’s got to much weight up front which adversely affects the handling.

ncbschzzt 12-18-2006 1:19 PM

So what big Euro hauler handles better than a VW?

dbjts 12-18-2006 3:10 PM

I’m not saying the VW doesn’t handle, it just doesn’t handle as well with the V10 lump in it. Also the massive extra premium puts it firmly in to Range Rover territory and deciding between a Range Rover and a VW is a no brainer.

bennygoodx 12-18-2006 9:17 PM

I've got a Range Rover. Me likey...

peter_c 12-18-2006 9:30 PM

VW tow capacity is 3500 kilograms which is equal to 7,716.18 pounds.

Dodge 4x4 1500 is 8250 pounds.

Boat ready to tow averages about 4000 pounds on the trailer.

Sure sounds like the VW is ready tow. Plus it has tons of power and gets great fuel milage.

Cost? Well it is only money...
