Added some new sacks to the kgb, made a great difference. Now I am trying to figure out if I should do more or stick with what I got. I have the KGB hard tanks, and I added 2 350lb to the back(only fill port for surfing though), and the standard hull sack. I usually leave the hull and port full. What else can I do to the 05 x-2? Also, I ahve been riding the 4'4" coex board. I like the board but its a little hard to stay in the pocket with. I was thinking of trying teh trickboards Mojo line, any suggestions? I like to spin, float, and stuff. Looking for something more forgiving with longer range after tricks etc.... Any help would be great!

in hte first pic it looks like your wrist is through your handle -- very dangerous if you fall..

Yeah, its not me, im driving. Im sure he did not do it long though hehe. I yell at everyone who gets themselves in a bad position.

Yell at the guy standing on the swim deck also. That wake looks really steep and the pocket looks short. I think you'll find a wake that has a more developed transition and a longer pocket is more forgiving and allows you to practice more tricks. It looks like you could use some ballast towards the front.

You should try and get Ed Sullivan's input on the Mojo, he's fast becoming the expert on that board.

Thanks Jeff. Did not know that about the weight on the swimdeck. I was under the understanding that the more weight on the back corner the better. Say I had 5-6 people in the boat, what would you suggest for seating?

Expert – I don’t think so, but I’m having a great time with the Mojo. I got my first wakesurfer last year, a HL Broadcast 5.6. This year’s new toy is the Trick Boardz Mojo XL. These boards are very different, the Mojo is symmetrical, has one somewhat smaller fin at each end, it is wider than the Broadcast, but not as long, has less surface area and has a fairly deep convex scallop.

Since the Mojo only has one fin and that fin is smaller it is very easy to break free but a little less stable – not wild and uncontrollable just less stable. I don’t think you can have both a board that breaks free and one that is very stable. I’ve been riding up to the peak of the surfwake near the back of the boat and breaking the board free, I need to work up the courage to try a spin.

I used to slalom ski a lot, over the last 4 or 5 years I’ve been riding an old Thruster with 6-inch fins. I’ve been riding the Thruster without bindings but I get a nice hard cutting slalom feel when I ride it. I like digging my back foot in and cutting. I can kind of get that feel from the Broadcast. Carving on the Mojo is different, you have to use a lot more of the center edge of the Mojo while you cut. Once you get used to the difference you can carve pretty hard with the Mojo.

I’m starting to get some good speed control with the Mojo. It accelerates pretty nicely and I find that I can use more of the surfwake with the Mojo than the Broadcast. When you fall back on the wake the end of the broadcast gets buried in the wake wash, slows down the board, making recovery difficult. The end of the Mojo is tapered. On the Mojo when you fall back on the wake the taper of the board exposes it to less drag giving you a better chance to pump and get back to the pocket.

I find that the Mojo is easier to pump, but I pump a little differently than I expected I would. It feels like I’m pumping the board down and the tail of the board out, seems to be working for me. I’ve been getting my best and longest rides on the Mojo. We’ve been riding the Mojo at 9.8 mph goofy and 10 mph regular, the goofy riders ride the Broadcast at 10 mph. However this weekend I stepped up the tow boat speed for the Mojo to 10.5 mph and was having no trouble keeping up.

OK I had a lot to say but I’m the analytical type. – I like the ride I’m getting Mojo.

Hey Ed, just for clarification, when you reefer to "center edge" you're meaning the rail of the board, right?

Hey Michael, I know that most folks equate TALLER with BETTER, but that isn't true, IMO. After you get to about 2 foot of height, that's adequate for both skim and surf style boards. A longer pocket will allow you to learn surface 3's. As you first try, you'll tend to drift back a bit, the longer pocket will allow you to recover easier. Also floaters and lips slides can be held longer, even boned for style. Lastly HUGE airs are developed with speed up and into the lip, you need the longer pocket to pump into the lip.

With as much "people" ballast as you have, I would start by arranging folks with the heaviest person at the observer seat and then down in weight towards the back. I would keep the lightest person for the bow area, if need be. I wish there was some magic formula, but there really isn't. The best thing is to go out and test it, rearrange and test again. I WOULD recommend trying to get a pocket close to 20 feet in length. I think you'll find you'll like that MUCH better than a super step wake that is an extra 10 inches taller. Keep us posted on what you discover!
Right the rail.

Good info, thanks. Going to check it out tomorrow. Makes sense.... Also think I am going to go ahead and try the mojo, I like loose. Thanks for your time Ed.

Hey Michael can I ask a favor? When you get a chance to ride the Mojo, would you do like Ed did, just give your impressions for folks - do the qualification thing (how long you've been riding, what your wake was like) and then what you felt the board was like? I think it would be helpful for a bunch of folks.

crawwl1975 05-31-2006 6:27 AM

Sure man. No problem. Going to order it today.

What speeds are you riding at behind the X2/X1 hull? This past weekend we rode with stock port ballast and stock center sack with 6 people in the boat on the port side. We rode at 10 mph because that was as low as the MC cruise would go, but then once we throttled manually and it was much easier to ride without the handle at 9.

We were riding a Broadcast 4'9"; what do you think??

crawwl1975 06-01-2006 3:37 PM

We usually ride 9.8-9.5 or so. Have not really played with the speed much. This week we went out and i tried to add more people to the front of the boat, and the pocket was still a little short and the wave was still real tall. I may have too much on the back port. I have the stock hard tank, plus a 350+ sack. May be too much to counter weight at hat slow speed. Dont know. Gona try some other stuff monday when I get that Mojo... Will let you know.
