At the last summer we got our 2001 back from having the floor replaced. There were quite a few areas on the boat(gelcoat area) that needed to be cleaned. I couldn't get any of it off with good ol elbow grease, so dumb@ss me decided to break out a green scratch pad. Now there's swirl scratch marks all over the boat. You can't tell they are there unless you know. Anyone know how to fix this?

Maybe get an oxidation remover or color restorer. Use a power buffer?

It all depends on how bad. If its not deep, I would use a buffer with some 3M Finesse It.

^^second the finesse it

then wax

And if that doesn't work, the next step is a wet-sand process... which is time-consuming but well worth it -- makes the gel look as good as new. You can do searches on here for details. Good luck.

Anyone ever clay bar in those situations?

rarasaurus 11-11-2008 10:51 AM

No clay bar is to remove dirt that is stuck in the gel coat or more specifically car clear coat. It will not remove scratches

In my experience, Clay Bar does not work very well on Gel coat. Clear Coat Auto paint is another story...clays are great.

3M Finesse-IT should work, i'm not sure of the difference between it and Finesse-IT 2 , but 2 is what i used for that exact same situation, worked like a champ.
