Help.
I need your feedback on this boat.
The boat is a 2006 Sunscape 21SLV. The dealer tells me it would make a good slalom wake and a good surf wake. The boat has: 35 hours, 340 Monsoon, power wedge. What do you know about this type of tower with built in speakers? The boat does not have any ballast. The dealer said he could plumb ballast into the rears, bow, ski locker, and port side. Your thoughts? Thanks.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but with ballast and perfect pass i think this is basically a vlx (with diamond hull?). that tower is an upgraded illusion tower they offered in the first year. I wasn't aware that they offered them in 2006 as you don't see them very often. Looks like a very nice boat. What is the price you negotiated?

Ian
www.onlyinboards.com

The boat has perfect pass and the diamond hull. The Diamond hull would be good because my wife is more into slalom skiing.
A private party is selling the boat through the dealer. So the dealer added the tower recently. Must of been a tower laying around that he couldn't get rid of.
We haven't started negotiating a price yet. He is asking $49,900. He said he could add the ballast for $1K and binimi for $850ish.

Thanks for any opinions.

You can buy my 07 23'LSV for 54k. It already has the ballast and Bimini top, perfect pass and the power wedge, custom towable cover, dept finder, four tower lights, cd player with 4 interior speakers and two remotes, one on the transom, Extreme custom trailer with 17" wheels and chrome fenders, with matching spare mounted under the trailer and swing-away tongue. Only has 15 hours on it.

Is that the CFT(Carbon Fiber) blade tower????

STAY AWAY FROM IT.

It is a POS. Lots of lateral instability. There is a reason that very few were sold. They just aren't made to handle the stresses of boarding.

(Message edited by rson on December 28, 2007)

Trent's boat is a nice looking piece, I would buy that before buying the LSV.

cavlxenvy 12-28-2007 9:30 AM

I completely agree with Rich. The Blade tower is horrible. The original wakeworld boat had it but suddenly ended up with an Illusion tower. The company went out of business.

The shake side to side violently and crack the gelcoat on the top deck.

downfortheride 12-28-2007 9:49 AM

John ~~ I'm with Rich on that tower, I have not seen it in person but heard nothing good about that tower if it's the CFT. If your interested in that boat I would take a long look at Trent's, the boat comes with everything you need at a good price. $4000 more for a brand new boat?

rson 12-28-2007 10:00 AM

Oh yeah...it's LSV not SLV.

Yes, that is the dreaded CFT tower. Can they take it off and swap it for a Titan? That would be a deal breaker for me. The tower just isn't a sound item for a wakeboard or slalom boat.

(Message edited by rson on December 28, 2007)

Thanks for all the feedback. Much appreciated! I have been researching this CFT tower. Yep, there is alot of negative feedback. I will chat with the dealer about swapping it out.

So, if the dealer swaps out the tower and adds ballast, would this be a good boat for slalom and sufing? We are aggressive recreational for both.

Trent and greygoose,
I want to stay in the 21 foot range on a boat. Although that is one gorgeous looking boat.

rson 12-28-2007 11:08 AM

Yes the boat would be great for that.

Since you will be surfing, screw the Ballast, get some fly high sacs and save the money. throw about 1200 pounds in the corner and one sac mid.

Getting ballast plumbed and paying the extra would be a waste since you will only be using one side for surfing.

The dealer couldn't trade out the tower. Well, he could but it was going to cost me.

The search continues...

john its nice from what i hear it runs pretty good havent been out on it but i hear its a good boat. shoot me an email if you want anymore info no it. but i have to say i like trents lsv alot more IMHO.

kcampos 01-02-2008 10:12 AM

i agree i think trents lsv is sick. I wish i could buy it

briguy 01-03-2008 10:53 AM

If anyone is interested we have a 2006 with around 100 hours with pretty much every option for 58,500. It has like 4500 worth of stereo upgrades also. Email me for pics..

briguy 01-03-2008 11:05 AM

It is the same gel pattern as trents

trentmalik 01-03-2008 11:43 AM

Well I would hope they would buy my 07 with 15 hours on it before they spent $6500 more for a boat a year older with 85 more hours on it.

rocketman 01-03-2008 12:13 PM

Trent, I was thinking the exact same thing.

John,

I used to be a very strict no larger than 21' guy, but when I sat in those bigger Malibus, and hearing that they handle just as well, I quickly went to wanting the 247 (a step even more extreme than Trent's boat). With the swing away tongue, the area needed in the garage for the 23LSV would be about the same at the 21 foot LSV without swing away tongue. Downside of course is the slalom wake will not be as good.

Regarding your quote- "Must of been a tower laying around that he couldn't get rid of." I think you hit the nail right on the head with that one. You might point out that he shouldn't charge you extra just because he just wanted to get rid of that tower, and you called him out on slapping an inferior tower on it.

wakereviews 01-03-2008 12:30 PM

Have you checked out any other models? I know there is an MB dealer 20 miles from you and i've heard that the B52V has a great slalom wake (I don't ski so this is 2nd hand knowledge from a lifelong skier).

Might be worth checking out, plus it never hurts to let the dealers know you are checking out the competition. Maybe will get you a better deal on that boat in the end or maybe he'd be willing to swap out for a Titan III tower or something if he knew he might lose the sale.

Best of luck man, (you could also sign up for email notifications on onlyinboards.com when new Malibu's get posted for sale)

Guys, thanks for all your feedback. Well, I bought a 2005 loaded VLX Wakesetter. LOL...I hope my wife doesn't kill me when she gets behind it to ski. We couldn't test drive the boat because the nearest lake is frozen. The boat is immaculate and the guy was in a financial bind, so I got a great deal (I think anyways). It is not the hull we wanted, but worst case, we can flip it this summer and try to find a diamond hull this summer if it is a big issue.

Again, thanks for your opinions. Much appreciated.

rson 01-03-2008 1:25 PM

Ummmm, I need pictures.

stick 01-04-2008 6:33 AM

I will post some pics as soon as I get her home.

John
