Your First Concert

Another thread got me thinking about my first concert.... It was Ozzy Osbourne at the Salt Palace, the Bark at the Moon tour. Motley Crew opened and stole the show, I remember them(Motley Crew) blowing my 13 year old mind.

My friends and I were just dropped off at the front and we walked to a pay phone(remember those) and called for a ride home after the show.

Also bought my first concert T at that show, wore the chit out of that....

ttrigo 12-23-2013 8:43 AM

Beach boys at the fair grounds with my parents. I think I was 7.
First real concert without parents was Agent Orange. I was 14, and I lost a shoe in the pit. Have probably been to over 500 shows since that day. Still one of my favorite places to be.

larry1167 12-23-2013 9:03 AM

America with my parents at one of the casinos in South Lake Tahoe. I think I was 11.

ottog1979 12-23-2013 9:33 AM

Supertramp, Milwaukee Arena, 1977

leaks 12-23-2013 10:35 AM

Yes and Y&T at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. 1976

jhartt3 12-23-2013 10:42 AM

first real concert 311 at the river market in KC i was 18

best concert i've ever been to Dave Matthews Band on a beach on the 2nd annual bud light party cruise. buddy was so drunk he ended up getting back on the bands charter than the cruise ship charter. So he got to ride around with the band for a while.

Dman726749 12-23-2013 10:57 AM

Offspring, 1999 or 2000, I was maybe 15?

DenverRider 12-23-2013 10:59 AM

Motley Crue Girls Girls Girls tour. I was still screaming hours after the show because I was so amped up. My next one was Poison with Warrant. Brett Michaels says that he feels really far away from everyone and that we should all come closer. I rush the stage with everyone else and finish the show in almost the front row during the encore. People were getting trampled around me. There was a security guy that was at least a foot taller than everyone else in the crowd. He was throwing people out of his way like they were rag dolls so he could get to a girl that had been hit by a chair that someone had ripped off the floor and thrown across the crowd.

larry1167 12-23-2013 11:21 AM

First concert without parents... Bruce Springsteen at the Oakland Coliseum 1986.

Best concert... Santana at Cal Poly SLO 1990 in our small gym which probably held 3,000 people. Carlos burnt the place to the ground.

magicr 12-23-2013 12:01 PM

I saw Van Halen's World Vacation Tour, 1979, first one I remember, ;)

moon 12-23-2013 1:04 PM

First concert was Alice in Chains. It was a great concert and what topped it off was that I had gotten my drivers license the day before so we didn't need a parental taxi cab. Needless to say, the 86 accord looked like a lower rider with hands and feet hanging out the windows.

wakemitch 12-23-2013 1:07 PM

The first concert I went to was a free performance that New Found Glory played at Marine World (now Six Flags Discovery Kingdom) back in 2000. I had no idea who they were at the time, but since then they have been one of my favorite bands and Ive seen them 6 or 7 times.

wakedaveup 12-23-2013 1:15 PM

Garth Brooks in Sacramento, I was 8 and hated country at the time. Threw the biggest fit with my parents, yelled, complained, you name it. Got to the concert and still the best concert I've ever been to in my life. Not my favorite music but that guy can put on a show! I even got hit with a plastic beer cup in the back of the head and didn't care, the Thunder Rolls was playing and the arena was lit up with lightening (fake of course), it was awesome. Worst part was admitting to my parents I had a good time after haha.

wakeworld 12-23-2013 3:24 PM

My parents wouldn't let me go to concerts until I was 18, but because I was in 4-H and showing my pig at Ventura County Fairgrounds, I was able to see Kansas and Eddie Money in 1983 (I was 15). My first "legit" concert after turning 18 was Van Halen on their first tour with Sammy Hagar. I was bummed because I really wanted to see them with DLR, but they had broken up while I was waiting to turn 18! :(

da_moose 12-23-2013 3:58 PM

lfadam 12-23-2013 4:26 PM

311 at Virginia Tech's auditorium. I was probably 15 or 16 (sophomore year of high school). Still one of my favorite concerts ever. 3,000 people all jumping.

95sn 12-23-2013 5:13 PM

Smokie Robinson and the Miricles, plus Frieda Payne, Band of Gold at The Greek. Early 70's
I saw the Wall in L.A, the night the stage caught fire but it was about 1980 not 77. I dont remember seeing Moose there :)
I saw LedZep in 77:)

ottog1979 12-23-2013 5:29 PM

jerasu98 12-26-2013 6:57 PM

My dad knew it was my favorite band at the time, so he took me to see Duran Duran on the Seven and the Ragged Tiger tour in 1984 in Sacramento at CalExpo. I must have been 9. In H.S. he took me to my next favorite band, Anthrax on the Sound of White Noise tour. The opening band I thought was really good. They said their first album released in a few months and no one at school had heard of them. It was White Zombie.

bstroop 12-26-2013 7:40 PM

chillinoj 01-07-2014 2:40 PM

Damn a lot of these are sweet shows.

I got lucky, my pops took me to go see The Who at the pepsi center when i was in junior high. Floor seats only 20 rows back, such a great show.

magicr 01-09-2014 12:18 PM

Now how about the last concert you've been to.

Brad Paisley, The Band Perry, and Scotty McCreery, 2012 Eugene.

Quite a switch from Van Halen. :)

deuce 01-09-2014 12:24 PM

Last, I think either Bon Jovi @ the ESA or maybe Kelly McGuire in a friends back yard....(how's that for a mix of arena and back yard)

fly135 01-09-2014 1:43 PM

Jeff Beck and Lynyrd Skynrd are the last two for me.

migs 01-09-2014 1:49 PM

DNA lounge SF at 3am, when Prince walks in after his concert and does 4 songs live was my first "concert"

ttrigo 01-09-2014 2:02 PM

Last one was Street Dogs in Anaheim back in December. I'm usually at 2-3 shows a month though. Used to be that per week!

whiteflashwatersports1 01-10-2014 7:22 AM

Last is same as the first - First U2 Joshua tree Carrier Dome Syracuse NY
Last U2 at Dolphins stadium Miami - still awesome over 20 yrs later

Salister 04-04-2014 10:07 PM

first concert: Black Sabbeth w/ ozzy reunion tour with Godsmack

last concert : Red Hot chili peppers in Philly for their latest tour ( it sucked balls in an inside seated area)

Best show ever: (general admission) Chili peppers when they toured with foo fighters at Hershey stadium for Californication . "cause im down with the state of pennsylvania" and the it went effing insane. Best show ever. Even though the foo fighters were wasted and played 3 terrible songs.

Best band that worked the crowd: POD

Best stage show: Alice Cooper

Best Jam out band: Moe

Gotta have some variety ;)

Biggest disapointment: Sleeping through and missing Primus and The Dead at bonnaroo. Primus played for like 6 hours into the early morning and we passed out eehhh

wakereviews 04-05-2014 3:28 PM

U2 acting baby tour either junior or sophomore year. Seen a bunch of these bands. 311 was one if my favorites, Kravitz was good, beastie boys. Saw pearl jam, widespread and Fleetwood Mac all in one day at Summerfest. Headed to NIN and Soundgarden this summer

Bagar55 04-06-2014 5:59 AM

First with my Dad - Willie & Johnny Cash when I was 8 or around then, he sure did teach me to appreciate the right kind of music.

First solo - Janet Jackson, Rhythm Nation Tour, little embarrassed to even say that one.
"Ms. Jackson if your nasty"

westsidarider 04-06-2014 9:18 AM

My pops took my to see Floyd when I was 11. Grew up around cig smokers, I knew it wasn't cig smoke I was smelling the whole time

fence_sence 04-06-2014 9:50 AM

My first without parents; Beastie Boys opened for Run DMC. 1987. JMJ dropped out of the ceiling of the Lawlor Events Center on his DJ stand. I was 14.

Last show; People Under The Stairs, Highlighter tour. Saw them at this dinky little club called The Alley in Sparks, NV. This was the night after they played a sold out show in LA at the House of Blues. I showed up early and got a chance to bs with them. They looked a bit wiped out from the night before and had borrowed a turn table set up from a local. I honestly wasn't expecting them to knock it out of the park but, that's exactly what they did. 200 people in some Nevada hick town got treated to the best damn hip hop show that town had ever seen. Un-be-f'ing-leavable! Slam dunk, home run, hat trick. The new album, "12 Step Program" is set to drop May 6th. This will be the duos 9th complete album (12th if you count the other releases). "Hardest MF'n workin group in show biz!"

phathom 04-06-2014 10:13 AM

First concert - Our local radio station (z100) 13th birthday bash. It was a compilation show on Easter Sunday of all days. It had Sheryl Crow and Jewel. I remember that the opening act, Better than Ezra was a no show. It wasn't bad and I saw Jewel one more time since then and Sheryl Crow two more times. Actually all of those in the same year.

First concert without parents - Anger Management Tour 2000. Also a compilation, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, Xzibit, Eminem and D12.

All times are GMT -7. The time now is 4:37 PM.
