Where to go in Colorado
 

What are the lakes in Colorado, Southern Utah and Southern Nevada that wakeboarders and wakesurfers go to?
Also looking for a few places to try in the Denver, CO area.

Southern Utah is powell, there is also flaming gorge in south western wy and northeastern Ut, around the denver area is cherry creek, Chatfield, horsetooth, carter, boyd. Then there is sloans and standley, but you need passes to those two

Of the 5 public ones arround Denver, where would you suggest for Sunday?

And, what does it take to get passes to Sloans or Standley?

Waiting list for Stadley of about 30, so I might look into it for next year.

I'd honestly go chatfield. Cherry creek has almost no usable space and is nasty, Horesetooth is good if you get there early, it's in a canyon and gets choppy pretty quickly. Carter is a smaller horsetooth, and may be good early season, I was out there last Oct and it was pretty empty.

To get a pass on standley you have submit an app back in Feb, they only sell 550 of them, and if they go over that number they do a lottery. Last couple years they've come in just a little shy and haven't had to. They are probably sold out by now, but you can check. It's a great lake, but it's dry, and they have the most strengent mussle checks in the state. It cost $850 for residents of jefco, and I think $950 for non residents. If I remember right you're in vail, so this would probably not be the best option for you.

I'm not sure abotu sloans

In my opinion it's the nicest lake in the metro area, but has some drawbacks

Positives: Very clean warm water, lots of usable space, empty on weekdays, typically not too crowded on weekends, free camping if you have the pass

Negative: Quarantine period if you take your boat else where, dry lake, little strict

We went to chatfield last time so I was looking to try a different one this week.

What about Barr lake?

Haven't been to bar, but I've heard its ok. Once it warms up a bit there is glendo and gurnsey up past cheyenne too. Pueblo is a good lake. I'd go horse tooth if you want to exp, bigger lake.

I think we are going to try Boyd on Sunday. If the crew wants to drive the extra 40minutes.

No more so than sloans

so you know people that have ridden it? just askin...

II know people who have been to the lake, don't know if they rode it or not

it not a bad place to fish or watch birds if thats your gig. i've lived here my whole life so i checked the state website to make sure nothin changed this is what it said:

Barr Lake offers 1,950 surface acres of quiet, calm water. The southern half of the lake is a dedicated wildlife refuge: Boating and fishing are not permitted south of the buoy line. The northern half of the lake is open to several water sports including boating, canoeing and sailboarding. Only sailboats, hand-propelled craft, and boats with electric trolling motors or gasoline motors of 10 horsepower or less are permitted on Barr Lake. stanley is the best in city lake period! you are correct about sloans also, but its close to home.

The only reason I asked about Barr is I was just scanning the denver area on google earth looking for big bodies of water.

SW Colorado we have Navajo and McPhee

I may have mixed it up with boyd, hence my corrilation to sloans, since they are both shallow, though I may even be wrong there.

Other pluses to standley, no jet skis, free storage all summer

Lakes in Southern Utah: Sand Hallow, Quail Lake, Gunlock

Those three lakes are within minutes from the St. George area. Lake Powell is a couple hours from St. George. Sand Hallow is good to ride on the weekdays but gets busy on the weekends. Gunlock is very small but is hardly ever crowded. Quail isn't very big either but a decent lake.

I just moved to Colorado and would love to get some riding in this summer. I'm just north of the Springs, but will happily travel for a pull. I've got gas money and/or beer to contribute, depending on your preference. Let me know if I can grab a ride, I'd appreciate it big time. Thanks,

Kevin, there are a few private lakes just north of Colorado Springs that are pretty nice. A little short (maybe 2000') but nice. I think they have memberships available. Hit me up privately and I'll share what info I have. I've been out there once or twice. If it takes me a few days to reply, don't worry, I will. Also, unless you are willing to get up really early to hit a public lake, I'd recommend finding a private lake somewhere if it's within the budget. Ours are all filled but there are a ton of others out there with open spots because of some camping changes that rolled out a couple months back.

kevin, anytime you need a pull give me a shout. my boat is always open. as you can read above, steve is the (all knowing of all wakeboarding in colorado)...

Private lakes or places in colorado
 

We live in colorado springs and need a lake that is less busy than Pueblo;
either public or private.
Can anyone help us out?

Depending on how far you are willing to drive, but Navajo is nice with plenty of room. It'd be more a weekend trip for you though since it'd be about a 4-5 hr drive for you
