gsulawwake 06-19-2009 10:08 AM

My wife says that I am obsessed with wakeboarding, which I am, and that riding twice a week (3-4 hr) from May through September is unreasonable.

So I am wondering how often you all ride.

wakeslife 06-19-2009 10:11 AM

not nearly enough... still waiting for this damn hole in my ear to heal up.

(Message edited by wakeslife on June 19, 2009)

beckycarter 06-19-2009 10:13 AM

There's no such thing as too much wakeboarding. Try getting your wife into the sport! We need more girls who ride anyway!

fly135 06-19-2009 10:15 AM

I finally got my wife to learn to drive the boat last week. She likes to swim in the lake now in the evening, so she takes me out for a 30 minute set and then we hang out and swim. Weather permitting it's hopefully going to be a 5 day a week thing (after work) and then some riding in the weekend. You just need to get her involved somehow.

splatman 06-19-2009 10:18 AM

I normally get about 1 1/2 month riding a couple sets every day...
but it's still not enough!

spinner_x 06-19-2009 10:22 AM

4 times a week. for 3 months outta the year mostly.

gsulawwake 06-19-2009 10:28 AM

Becky - she actually does ride. She's just not interested in waking up at 6am. And I'm not interested in going in the afternoon when the water sucks.

andy_nintzel 06-19-2009 10:34 AM

Oh God, time for a new wife!!!!!

I ride at least 5 times a week for 5-6 hours. Thank god my wife puts up with it. Honestly the only reason I dont ride on some days is because I am sore or its windy.

(Message edited by andy_nintzel on June 19, 2009)

vtecths 06-19-2009 10:35 AM

normally about 2x per week for about 2-3hrs of riding before the lake turns into the perfect storm!

eubanks01 06-19-2009 10:48 AM

About once every week and a half. This is life with a baby. I would ride every day if I could so count yourselves fortunate those that ride multiple times per week.

andy_nintzel 06-19-2009 11:03 AM

Eubanks if its any consolation I do feel fortunate.

eubanks01 06-19-2009 11:07 AM

Ha! Yeah, it helps. I rode 2 or 3 times per week post college but before marriage. Rode once per week after marriage. Ride more like once every two weeks post baby. I see a downward spiral developing! I honestly don't know how your bodies handle riding mutiple sets per day 5 or 6 times a week. I guess you have to build up to it but riding back to back days even hurts my old body.

dakid 06-19-2009 11:14 AM

about 5 to 6 times....a year.

06-19-2009 11:17 AM

I ride maybe about 20-30 times a year if I'm lucky.

parkgirl 06-19-2009 11:29 AM

Being obsessed with wakeboarding is a good thing

under normal circumstances my husband and I ride 3-4 days a week, 2 sets a day. This year, due to injuries, work and weather we only are making it out like once a week on average. Hopefully that changes soon.

gsulawwake 06-19-2009 12:40 PM

I have a 2y9m old and a 1y4m old.
Both are great on the boat and do not slow me down.

sexyws6mama 06-19-2009 12:43 PM

twice a week (all day long)......I wish more though

tsteeb 06-19-2009 12:58 PM

not enough...about once a week if i am lucky

pierce_bronkite 06-19-2009 1:29 PM

3-4 Times a week with the family. My wife initiates wanting to take the boat out half the time. She likes to surf and my 3yr old daughter just got into riding a tube. It works out for everyone since I like to wakeboard or surf, wife likes surfing and being on the boat in general and my daughter likes to swim or ride the tube.

Its great family time and I feel extremely fortunate. Hitting the lake in about an hour too!

(Message edited by Pierce Bronkite on June 19, 2009)

hayes 06-19-2009 2:07 PM

Not enough. Maybe 1-2 times per week if I am lucky. It has been three weeks since my last ride!

dirwoody 06-19-2009 2:08 PM

All depends if my girl is in town.....If work doesn't get in the way.....
Without (weather permitting) 3-4 times a week
With 1 MAYBE 2 times
Either way, she still think's it's too much, and she rides too!

wake_it_up 06-19-2009 2:08 PM

Not enough.... maybe 4 sets a month. From the end of may to late September.

sidekicknicholas 06-19-2009 2:28 PM

3/4 days a week... but usually only 1 set per day.

Any more than that my body hates me... and when we go out there usually is only two of us... so from cranking the lift down to up is usually only like 1 hour.

My fiance' loves being out in the boat with us every chance she can.... do you ever bring your lady along?

soonerwake85 06-19-2009 2:35 PM

Try to go twice a week during the good months. Once after work during the week, and once on the weekend. Started a new job this month and have already seen that decline to once a week. Bummer.

dirwoody 06-19-2009 4:15 PM

I bring her along every chance I get, but she "always feels like the 3rd wheel" on the boat, working on that, but we talk form, wakes, ballast, equipment and what not, she just doesn't care about that stuff, so it's tough

liquidmx 06-19-2009 4:18 PM

I was riding 2-3 times a week until I started getting burned out in late May. I have not ridden in two weeks. I might ride tomorrow but I am not super pumped on it. Usually its 2-3 times a week during the summer; right now I am just not feeling it though, almost like I am over wakeboarding....ugh.

ironj32 06-19-2009 5:42 PM

3/4 days a week, two sets each each time. my lady comes out everytime and normally does one set each time (and pulls me). however, even though she wants to come everytime (she'd be upset if she didn't get to) she too thinks that i'm too obsessed with wakeboarding.

gunnertom4593 06-19-2009 6:27 PM

I usually try to ride once a week, but sometimes that doesn't happen unfortunately. However, I rode monday at owc, rode boat today, and am riding boat again tomorrow. Lucky Week!!!

cameronb 06-19-2009 6:36 PM

2-3 times a week, year round. multiple vacations to different lakes around the southern U.S. every year.

when living in Renton WA.. we were cut back to once a week or so.

jackeh 06-19-2009 8:48 PM

i get to maybe 10-15 times a year at the most.

wakerider111 06-19-2009 8:57 PM

My wife thinks i am obsessed too, and that wake has "become a need." which i agree with. I honestly feel like this is my first and only obsession, but i am not gona get into that. I want to get more than once a week (5 months of year) but my wife says that once a week should be enough and that i should be happy with what i have... and i am but that doesn't mean i wont be happier and safer with more since i wont be tempted to wakeboard till my body gives out trying to fill one full day

once a week on average, but so far it is a bit less than that coming into this year which is not making me happy but at the same time i am like, "Ohh well, what do you expect...?"

(possible) Factors:
No Boat of own
Young Baby
Matching schedules with the small handful of individuals in this small town that actually wake
Shear Bad Luck (such as attempting to use the local public winch 7 times and never having luck for various reasons)

BRING ON THE WAKE PARKS!!!

t0nyv831 06-19-2009 10:42 PM

I've been riding pretty consistent once a week, but would like to get more water time. My wife thinks I'm obsessed with the sport, but just can't help myself. Granted, I've only been into it for a couple of years, so I'm sure that plays into it. If I had it my way, I'd be riding at least 2-3 times per week.

nauty 06-20-2009 3:09 AM

I ride twice a week, 3-4 hours each time out. Unfortunately, my wife hates the water and boating in general. She might come out with me twice a year at best. My wakeboarding hobby (or habit) used to be an issue with her earlier in our marriage, but know she is used to it. It helped when she found a hobby of her own. Now she's out of the house doing her hobby more than I am with mine.

Funny you mention getting up at 6 am to ride. It's now 5:07 am and I'm getting ready to go ride some morning butta Your problem is simple.... you get up early and ride at 6 am and then have her meet you at the dock around 11 am. Then you still get your good water and you get to be on the lake all day without getting yelled at by your wife.

daveronix199 06-20-2009 7:35 AM

Ride till you die! in the summer months in canada i ride before work after work and just before it gets dark

shon_g 06-21-2009 10:06 AM

I try to get out 4-5 times a week.

wakemitch 06-21-2009 10:17 AM

on average 2 days a week and get 2-4 sets each day year round. I probably ride more in the winter.

wiz 06-21-2009 6:25 PM

i'm normally out atleast 3 times a week. @ 4 hours each time.

wiz 06-21-2009 6:25 PM

.......dang..........i should be a helluva lot better than i am.......

skyler_25 06-21-2009 6:34 PM

I normally get out 4 to 5 times a week.

bmartin 06-22-2009 9:46 AM

Richard, your wife sounds a little like mine. Wifee had her first trip on the boat this W/E this year. Might be August or September before she goes again, but like you said it helps she has her own interests (long distance running) and she runs more than I ride, which is about 2-3 times a week.

Jeremy, it is a LOT tougher to get water time when you have little ones, especially if your wife is not a natural on the boat. I did not have a boat until my oldest got to be around 4 or 5 and could more easily take him along and even then I didn't ride much (2-3x / month) until my youngest was 4 or 5. Job-1 was always the kids. When they get to that age where all the kids want to be on the boat more and start getting into the tow sports, things will break loose for you.

andy_nintzel 06-22-2009 9:47 AM

EUBANKS!!

30 is NOT OLD I JUST JOINED Club 30!!! its like the new 14!

bboozer 06-22-2009 10:08 AM

I try to ride 2 days a week (Saturday and Sunday) May-September.. and try to get 2-3 sets per day if the water is good and I am not too sore... The Wife is OK with it (but she does think that I am obsessed, since I found Wake World, and I am unemployed and have all the time to be on it)... She does not ride and will not, I have given up on trying to talk her into it. BUT, she drives for me, coaches me, and cheerleads.... This year though, my water time has been less with an 8 month old... Our problem is finding a 3rd to help with the baby... Last year, she went out every weekend in close to 100` heat up to 7 months pregnant, so I really can't complain. The bad thing is now I am a stay-at-home dad and have all the time in the world to wakeboard and all my friends that ride have to work!!!! I hope that I can get 2 days in this weekend

trewblu 06-22-2009 11:31 AM

just about every morning

ironcross25 06-22-2009 12:07 PM

once a week maybe 2 if Im lucky. finding people to ride is hard in northeast ohio. I really would like to progress but it gets hard when i have no one to give me pointers. so i read posts hear and try to apply on the lake. works but a live person is always better.

ironcross25 06-22-2009 12:10 PM

"30 is NOT OLD I JUST JOINED Club 30!!! its like the new 14!"
Andy,
Thats the perfect quote! I hit 30 in 8 months.

eubanks01 06-22-2009 12:34 PM

Yeah, it's not too depressing yet. I think once I get on the other side of 35 it will start to hit me.

andy_nintzel 06-22-2009 12:41 PM

You can use it Nick.

For me turning 29 was way worse than 30. When I turned 29 it was like, OMG i got so much I need to get done in the next year before I am 30!!!! Its totally the new 14

misteve 06-22-2009 12:42 PM

My g/f says I ride everyday, sometimes twice a day, which is BS!

I ride 3-4 times a week on average, but really as much as I can, and as much as I can get away with

walt 06-22-2009 2:33 PM

Every weekend. I'm trying to get up to 8 sets a weekend. Two on Friday, Four on Saturday and two on Sunday.

eubanks01 06-22-2009 2:36 PM

Wow Walt, I bet Mondays are rough! How long are your sets? I'm worthless after I've taken 3 sets in one day.

walt 06-22-2009 2:43 PM

<!-quote-!>quote:
Wow Walt, I bet Mondays are rough! How long are your sets? Keep in mind I don't do inverts and I'm just doing basic HS & TS stuff.

chicagomastercraft 06-22-2009 2:46 PM

Between events and demos I am probably on the water 3-5 nights a week during the warm months.

bremsen 06-22-2009 3:16 PM

Last season it was 2 per week minimum, trying for 3. Now with a 10mo/old its try for 2, one minimum. I usually ride 2-3 sets per outing.

bcail 06-23-2009 7:50 AM

Around 5 sets a week on average, which isn't nearly enough.

06-24-2009 3:05 AM

We like to ride 3-4 times a week and my wife supports me and my ridding. She is also down to drive if it's just me and her and our daughter, our daughter is 5 and was raised on the water and rode last year and she digs it. But like a few others have said can'r ride to much....

rmcronin 06-24-2009 3:45 AM

3-4x/week. My wife is just as into it as me, so I'm lucky. We have 4 kids, take 2 to the lake and leave the twin babies at home with a sitter. Watersports are about the best times a family can spend together, plus it's great exercise. Everyone gets to do something fun, even if it is just swimming. At least you're not a golfer ;)

captain_vilfo 06-24-2009 6:05 AM

Usually a ton more than I am now, but the combination of the terrible weather which has consisted of glassy water but freezing air temps or hot air temp but ridiculous wind speeds and lazy friends has slowed the process down. I've been trying to suck it up and just ride but its incredibly hard to get friends to come out on the lake when its 60 and cloudy or to find rideable water when the wind is blowing at 30mph. For some reason central New York has not has a decent day for wakeboarding in June yet. With all that said I usually ride about 10 sets a week but now its about 3-6.

drknute3 06-24-2009 6:58 AM

Weekends are just too busy unless I can get an early morning or late evening set in. I shorten my clinic hours on Tuesday and Thursdays so we can hit the lake for a few hours and get some sets in. All told, I probably get about 6 sets a week in.

huntingwiley 06-24-2009 7:17 AM

I Wakeboard 2 or three days a week and Slalom 2 days a week. I try to get out more when I can.

jarrod 06-24-2009 7:36 AM

I'm 35, riding more and better than ever, and started racing motocross this year.

30 is not old! Even though my league is called the "Over the hill gang!" haha

powercorps 06-24-2009 8:10 AM

i ride 4 to 5 days a week about 15 to 20 min on the days i ride. The days I dont is becasue I am sore

fly135 06-24-2009 10:22 AM

Jarrod, you're just a young whippersnapper!

inty399 06-24-2009 11:54 AM

just about every morning at 5:30 or 6 until 8 and then mabe a set in the evening if its smooth

walt 06-24-2009 2:15 PM

<!-quote-!>quote:
Jarrod, you're just a young whippersnapper!<!-/quote-!>

That's what I was thinking too.

jtnz 06-24-2009 9:38 PM

Depends on the tides (and whether the boat is running, I have ridden like 4 times this year because the motor gave up and is STILL being rebuilt after 2 months) between 2 and 5 times a week, either one set or two a day depending on how full the boat is.

gene3x 06-25-2009 6:26 AM

I usually try to get out 2 times a week. Sometimes 3.

Richard and bmartin , your story sounds like mine too. Only my wife still hates the lake and calls all my wakeboard friends.... "your lake rat friends" hahahahaaaa
BTW I didn't start wakeboarding till I was 35....
Do I win some sort of prize or something?

(Message edited by gene3x on June 25, 2009)

glassywater09 06-25-2009 8:48 AM

Traded in the wife for a Malibu and poverty...she has the cash, I ride a lot! Bliss for all.

fly135 06-25-2009 9:14 AM

LOL Richard... I did the same thing back in 2002. Then I traded in riding for a new wife. On the bright side she's learning to drive the boat.

focker 06-25-2009 9:21 AM

Richard wins for post of the day.

I ride, probably on avg, once every week and a half currently. My problem is being spoiled for too many years. I grew up 3 miles from a long river that was constant glass while I was in school. After school, move to a big city where I have to drive almost an hour after working all day just get in some blown out choppy cove sharing it with 3 other boats, makes it hard when you're used to the former.
