I've got some 50 lb free weights and was wanting to cover them with some gray carpet. Any tips on how to do this? I used to just put them in the floor, but they began to rust and it got on the boat carpet. So I started to put them in pillow cases, but I want something a little more permant. Should I coat them with something before I put the carpet on them. (spray paint/rustolium). What kind of glue should I use?

Any other ideas? I wanted to do the tire weights and I have about 100 lbs of them, but this seems easier and I don't have the equipment to melt them down. Thanks - Chad Wheeler

If you prep/paint them, there is no need for carpet.

I'd do that, and then use a spray adhesive if i wanted to carpet them anyways.

If this is a long term solution, I would look at the bedliner materials Rhino Liner or Line-X. I have a variety of materials coated in my boat and it is durable but a little expensive. The dealer told me they can apply it to virtually any material if it is prepped correctly. Might be more than you want to pay but would be a great solution I would imagine.

if they have any rust on them, clean and paint them. then use liquid nails to attach marine grade carpet. I have some steal weights and thats what I did.
